You’ll begin by crossing a scenic wooden bridge — a perfect spot to snap photos of the Jacques-Cartier River and surrounding mountains. 🌉📸 Although officially rated difficult (5 hrs), if you’re an experienced hiker, you can complete it in around 3.5 hrs. There are a few steep sections, but overall it feels more moderate than extreme.   1. This afternoon I got a call from Mariko saying she had been in an accident just 5 minutes from our house. I had no idea how bad it was, only that she was hit hard from behind and was going to call 911. I rode there immediately to be with her. The other driver hit her from behind doing 70-80km/h and completely destroyed the back of our SUV, and the impact was so bad that our spare tire was knocked off. The front of the other SUV is demolished, with fluids leaking everywhere and air bags deployed. Mariko has been to the hospital and unquestionably has whiplash, with lots of pain in her neck, back, and ribs, and bruising on her knee, but she doesn’t have any broken bones or cuts and will be okay. The other driver also went to the hospital and seems to be okay too. For now it’s going to be rest and recovery for Mariko, and more insurance claim work for us, but we’re so thankful she’s okay and that the kids weren’t in the car. Hug your loved ones often and tell them you love them; you just never know what life can throw at you. ❤️

I was able to make it there before the paramedics and the fire trucks, and be the first person she saw at her window. Although it was traumatic to pull up to the scene of an accident involving my wife, it was comforting to us to have each other in that moment. I am so grateful I had the phone nearly. I can’t imagine the guilt I would have felt if I had missed that call, and now I feel extra paranoid about leaving the house, or even the room, without it. The other driver had hit her from behind doing 70-80km/h and completely destroyed the back of our SUV, writing it off. Mariko has spent the last 3.5 months recovering from the whiplash with lots of pain in her neck, back, and ribs, and working to recover from the PTSD.   3. An update, with some steps!!! 👇 As of today, I’ve officially been diagnosed with a concussion. My return-to-work date has been pushed from July 21 to “about 6 months.” I’m now doing physiotherapy for both my brain and my amputated foot, attending counselling, and seeing an occupational therapist weekly. I’m also awaiting an X-ray to confirm whether a potential neck fracture seen on my original CT scan is real or not. The healing process is slow, but it’s happening. My stitches are still healing, and I’ve just started practicing putting weight on my injured foot. Yesterday I took 5 steps. Today I took 10!! It might sound small, but every step feels like a giant leap toward getting my life back. It’s actually TERRIFYING to take each step! One day at a time. One step at a time. I’m not where I want to be yet, but I will get there!

(SAVE for future trip planning) 🐧Runs until March 15th weather permitting. ❄️The Penguin Walk will be cancelled if the temperature is 5°C or warmer or -25°C or colder. ⏰10:30am daily. ‼️Only the colony members who choose to walk will go for the stroll, so numbers will vary each time. 📍The walk begins right near the Penguin Plunge exhibit. You won’t be able to miss the crowd and there are lots of staff to help direct people. 🔥 Tip: As you can see from the video, it’s busy (this was mild day and a weekend). But unlike with most things, I’m not going to say you need to arrive early to be able to see them. The penguins will walk by TWICE (consider it an “out and back” hike for them). And 80% of people leave after they walk by the first time.   3. sunset above the clouds in wild BC 🏔️ Yesterday’s sunset mission felt special in every way. It was my friend’s @margaux.cohen first hike after her serious injury last August , and witnessing her step back into the mountains made the moment even more meaningful. We drove up the Mamquam FSR and were greeted by a surprise cloud inversion that wrapped the valley in magic! 🔥 From there, we pushed through fresh, untouched snow on the way toward Alpen Mountain, chasing the last light of the day. At the summit ridge, the sky opened up with an incredible view of Sky Pilot, Mount Garibaldi and Tantalus range glowing above the clouds! But incase you also didn’t know this - consider this your PSA to make chairlift rides way more comfortable. Instead of precariously balancing the bottom of your skis on the tiny bit of plastic, put it between your ski and boot - and somehow it balanced there 100x easier!   2. What I’d tell younger me ⤵️ 1️⃣ Jump right into ‘manual’ mode. The *most important tool* you can have is understanding the balance of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. The fundamental of allllll photography. The sooner you dial these in the more creative control you’ll unlock! 2️⃣ A good mentor = life changing. Back when I started, there wasn’t social media. At an Alexisonfire show in Toronto, I literally walked up to a photographer and asked him about his work… @sojufancyhuh said “if you’re really serious about this, I can teach you”. Legit changed my life. Kieran helped me navigate the industry, gave me feedback on my work and editing… thank you my friend 🫶 3️⃣ Fancier gear won’t make you a better photographer. Period. Developing your eye and learning how to capture light defines the impact of your work. Gear and upgrades are simply just tools to capture your vision. If you’re just starting, find a used camera that had Manual mode and I promise you can learn and make incredible photos. Save the upgrades for when you *really* need them. 4️⃣ LET GO OF PERFECTION THIS IS IN ALL CAP BECAUSE I STILL NEED TO SAY THIS TO MYSELF EVERY DAY LOL. There is no “perfect” and if you don’t let that go you’ll keep holding yourself back. 5️⃣ Shoot what *you* love, not what you think everyone else does. Sure, get inspired by other photographers, artists, your peers etc. But use the inspiration as energy rather than imitating what you think you “should” shoot (especially for engagement). You’ll never find yourself otherwise.   3. HOW IS THIS REAL LIFE 😭 Watching sunset on what would be [unexpectedly] our final night at camp. Standing at the edge of Alberta, looking out to insanely gorgeous British Columbia. Our view of the Canadian Rockies was so vast that I was able to stitch together 7 landscape photographs into this massive pano. It almost does the experience justice… though I have to say I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Me and Chappell Roan will have to agree to disagree on moving to Saskatchewan This year marks 11 years since I’ve moved to the west coast and it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made :) Don’t get me wrong- I love where I grew up and I do love Sask. The people are fantastic, the summers are lovely, and living is affordable. I can’t deal with the 8 month long winter and -40C temps 😅

If you only visit one waterfall near Vancouver this summer, make it Mamquam Falls. 🌊✨ Located just 1 hour from Vancouver in Squamish, Mamquam Falls is famous for its incredible water colour, which changes throughout the year. During the warmer months, glacial melt from the surrounding mountains gives the water its stunning turquoise-blue colour. As the seasons change and glacier runoff decreases, the water often becomes darker and clearer, creating a completely different but equally beautiful view. No matter when you visit, the falls always seem to put on a different show. A brand-new boardwalk experience now offers a different way to explore the area, with elevated walkways through the coastal rainforest, multiple canyon viewpoints, a forest lounge, café, gift shop, and family-friendly play area. Admission starts around $44 for adults, with discounts available when booked online in advance. Not looking to spend the money? The good news is that there is still a free hiking trail that takes you down to the waterfall viewpoints and river below. Read our tips before going and ENJOY! 🐾 🛻 How to get there : From Johnson Canyon road, enter at Crocodile Johnson Hog Canyon and take trail 100 (37°08’37.5″N 112°23’41.9″W) to 103 (37°07’50.4″N 112°27’16.6″W). There are some intersections that can be a little confusing… Be sure to have a GPS offline map downloaded. ‼️ You absolutely must have a 4WD high clearance vehicle – do not risk driving without one. You will 100% end up stuck! 🌷🍂 Spring or fall are ideal times for visiting the Great Chamber (and all the areas surrounding Kanab). We went mid-day in April, and the sun was beating down on the sand hill… it was gorgeous! 🥾 For the short sandy hike, we suggest wearing hiking boots or hiking sandals. Do not underestimate the power of the Utah sun, wear a hat and put on sunscreen. There’s no shade, except in the cove, depending on the time of day you visit. 💦 Bring water, snacks, shovel (in case you get stuck) and a camera with a wide-angle lens. 🙏🏼 Leave no trace! Make sure to pack out all of your trash. 💭 If you do not have sand driving skills or confidence, opt for a guided tour. We met a side-by-side guide who told us they accept dogs (they must be comfortable with an ATV ride). Visit Anteloppe Canyon with your dog 🥹🐾🧡 You MUST add this one to your bucketlist - it was probably one of the best days of my life You’ve probably already seen photos of Anteloppe Canyon in Arizona, USA. Unfortunately, to see these famous spots, you must book a guided tour that is extremely crowdy, expensive and no dogs allowed. BUT, there is another way to visit this canyon with your dog! Just head to the Anteloppe Point marina and rent a kayak or SUP so your dog can make the trip with you. It’s about 7 km paddling round trip and once there, you have to hike in the sand for a few kilometers. They advise everyone to turn around after 2 km, but we did 9 km hiking round trip and it was 100% worth it. We had the canyon all to ourselves! TIPS 🛶 We arrived as soon as the marina opened in order to get a kayak, but it’s best to book in advance. ☀️ We were there at the beginning of April, so the temperature was great. I wouldn't recommend it in midsummer. Either spring or fall! 🌊 Start your trip early in the morning. The water in the canyon is super calm and you’ll have all day to enjoy it! 🥾 Bring food, plenty of water, hats, sunscreen, hiking shoes, dry bag, camera, first-aid kit, leash and life jacket for your dog. 💪🏼 Keep in mind that you have to come back, so save your energy for the return trip. 💩 Make sure your dog has done all his business before you venture out on the water. There aren’t really any places to stop easily. 🗑️ Leave no trace, please. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate!   3. Protector Life Jacket x Dock Diving 🩵💦 ☀️ Summer has officially began here, which also means we can finally take part in our favourite summer sport: dock diving!!! Dock diving is such a fun sport to do with your dog in the summer, as the water aspect of it insures your dog stays cool even on hot summer days. 🎖️ With North America Diving Dogs (NADD), there are 3 disciplines: distance jumps (calculates the length of the jumps but the dog doesn’t need to catch the toy), air retrieve (the toy is tethered in the air and needs to be caught for the jump to count) and hydro dash (the toy is at the end of the pool and the focus is the speed at which the dog retrieves the toy and comes back to the dock). Charlot is doing distance jumps, Luna is doing distance + air retrieve and Lennox is just starting out in the sport. 🌊 One thing remains constant throughout all categories: using a life jacket when introducing your dog to the sport. Even though your dog might be an amazing swimmer, we highly recommend using a life jacket at the start. Jumping into a pool, especially from a dock means the dog sinks into the water and it can be a scary feeling for them at first (or always). You wouldn’t want your dog to have a bad experience from the start and then not want to jump ever again. Plus, it is also a very tiring sport and having a life jacket allows for the dog to save their energy by sinking less and having an extra sense of safety. Bonus points for the help with getting less water into your dog’s ears too! 🧡 When you’re choosing a life jacket for your dog, the first thing you want to make sure of is that it doesn’t restrict your dog’s mouvement.
