  3. Photo of me back in the July when this crazy health journey all began! This Tuesday Jan 27th at 7AM at St Paul’s Hospital, I go in for my long awaited Open Heart Surgery to finally repair/replace my mitral valve that was damaged due to the Endocarditis (heart infection) which I only discovered after the third visit to urgent care/emergency. What transpired up until now: - end of AUG: finally admitted to ER after they did a blood culture on the third visit to the hospital after 1.5 months of having 40C fevers, vomit and etc - diagnosed and admitted into hospital for a week on IV antibiotics - had raging headaches and eyesight loss in left eye, so continued to do MRI and CT scans, found out the infection traveled to my eye and brain, kidneys and liver. Told I may not have clear sight in left eye ever again - discharged from hospital and sent home as an In-Patient where I continued IV antibiotics self administered twice a day. Nurses came every day. - OCT:had stroke like symptoms driving home from the cafe, back in ER. More tests and found out I had aneurysm, abscess, and multiple baby strokes - doubled up on antibiotics with another oral one that took my tastebuds away, hospitalized for another week - scariest point was till now where I didn’t know what my brain was doing and where the infection was going to go next. Luckily we saw improvement with the double antibiotics and was back home with nurses visiting for another 6 weeks of treatment - JAN: now I’m finally cleared for heart surgery from neurology and hopefully on my last leg of this journey (unless they can’t repair and I get a replacement, which means another open heart surgery in 10 years) Phew 😬 Thank you to everyone for the heartfelt messages and for supporting us this past year. Your love has meant everything to my staff and me. Hopefully the next update you see on this platform is positive news after my successful surgery 💝🥹✨ till then my amazing staff are all skilled and looking forward to creating experiences with you at the cafe☕️🥐❤️ Much love, Annabelle

  2. This weekend, we defied the norm by taking our 5 kids on a winter camping trip at -14°C (7°F) (dipped to -16°C at night). Why? To teach them that life isn’t just about following the usual paths but embracing challenges for unforgettable experiences. Outfitted with our “hot” tent and stove from @citizencanvas, we ventured into the serene, snow-covered landscape, a stark contrast to the crowded and bug-infested sites of summer. The cold brought us closer, sharing stories around the stove, proving comfort isn’t limited to familiar settings and memories can be created anywhere. They’ve currently spent the weekend running around the forest and playing in the snow, or sat in the tent reading books and playing cards/Pokémon 😂 and as far as we can tell, they love it! Winter camping isn’t just about enduring the cold; it’s about discovering peace in solitude, enjoying snow activities, and learning new survival skills. The crisp air made for better sleep, devoid of summer’s muggy nights. And, without the usual wildlife or bugs, it felt safer and more serene. We wanted our kids to see that facing adversity, like the freezing temperatures, can be empowering. It teaches resilience, adaptability, and the joy of carving your own path. This journey was more than a test of our new gear; it was a lesson in exploration and possibility, showing that even in -14°C (7°F), adventure awaits those willing to step outside the comfort zone.
