We have been through so much to get to this point, and truly would not change a single thing about the path we took to get here. This part of the wedding is our Catholic ceremony, which was very important to Justin’s family and my dad. What we didn’t expect was how beautiful, heartfelt and ceremonial it would be. Just hearing the church bells ring was so incredibly special. We customized the liturgy so that the readings felt reflective of our relationship and our personalities, and it turned out so beautifully. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible.   3. Ok, so I’m in my feels today. My babies had their first (half) day of school! The morning didn’t go as smoothly as planned - surprisingly not because of school jitters, but because I didn’t do the pony tails in the exact way that was expected of me haha, went over the hair a few times. There were some nerves on the way to school, but zero tears before or during - yay!! So I would say first day was a success. I was even able to get Franki to stand still for a few pics, which is a challenge of its own. Tomorrow will be a whole day, and Mommy can start organizing my life. My house. My brain.   2. Today’s recipe video is a Kimchi Udon Carbonara! Spicy, chewy, creamy, savory...just so good. It’s super easy to make (done in less than 30 minutes total), and has everything you need for a one plate meal. . . . Tips: -Make it even spicier by adding more gochugaru, if that’s what you’re about -Skip the pork belly to make it vegetarian (it’ll be just as good!). If you do skip it, you can add a bit more onion, garlic and olive oil for a bit more flavor . . . Ingredients: -Udon noodles, pork belly, kimchi gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, onion, garlic, scallions, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, egg . . . Instructions: -In a bowl, mix 1 tbsp gochujang, 2 tsp gochugaru, 2 tsp memmi or soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, black pepper, and 1 tbsp water. -Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add in 2 packs of udon noodles, cook for ~2 mins, and then drain and rinse the noodles over cold water. If you’re good at multitasking do this while also tackling the next step. If not, it’s okay to just do this sequentially. -In a pan, add about ~1 tsp of olive oil. Add 2 pork bellies, and mostly cook them. When they are almost done, cut them up with food scissors. -Add 1/3 of an onion chopped and 4 garlic cloves sliced. Cook ~30 seconds until garlic is lightly browned. -Add 1 cup of kimchi, and cook until kimchi is lightly carmelized. Then add in the premixed sauce and mix everything up together. -Add in the 2 packs of cooked udon noodles, then turn off the heat and mix the noodles up with everything until the noodles are well coated. Add 1-2 scallions chopped, an egg yolk, a handful of parmesan cheese and a handful of mozzarella cheese (this should melt by itself with residual heat). Mix in the egg yolk and enjoy!

It stays so true to the heart of the original, while adding even more depth to Lilo and Nani’s story—Maia Kealoha is an absolute star as Lilo!   1. The Tacos That Will Save Your Life: 1. Start by seasoning your salmon. Dab it down with a paper towel, drizzle with 1 tsp olive oil. Shake it up, taste, then pour half of the sauce over the slaw. Reserve it for the tacos. 4. Make a simple guac by mashing together 2 large avocados, 1 finely minced garlic clove, the juice of half a lime, and a generous pinch of salt/pepper. Mix well, taste, and adjust. 5. Finally, char your favorite tortillas. I used ancient grains here. 6. Then assemble your tacos up. I started with the special sauce, topped with a tablespoon or so of guac, a tablespoon or so of salmon, some ‘slaw, and topped with fresh cilantro. 7.   3. 8 yrs ago today we took our last family photo in Harry's classroom. Acc to the clock less then 24 hours later we would pick up our first new vehicle in 10 yrs, our family mini van. I remember how much fun the kids had at the bbq, how I laughed and joked with some of the other parents about joining the mini-van brigade. How much fun Daniel had showing us his classroom, how Milly had hidden from Ed in the library just before this photo was taken, how Harry was so excited to show us his new photo on the classroom wall with his long hair. The pride I had in watching Harry eat part of a hamburger safely in a different environment and how he was cueing himself. Watching Daniel play with his friends after eating.   3. I don’t even know where to begin—I’m truly at a loss for words because this may be the hardest thing I’ve ever faced. Tenisha and I were best friends before anything else. She was a very private person, but if you were fortunate enough to be in her circle, she would do anything for you. She guided me through so many stages of life, always there with support and advice. Tenisha’s smile and personality could light up any room. She was warm, approachable, and had this genuine quality, but she could also be real and firm when needed. Like any relationship, we had our ups and downs, but one thing we never missed on was the joy of bringing our son, Chase, into this world. We had this pact to give Chase the greatest life we could imagine. I know you see a lot of photos of me and him, but make no mistake—he was absolutely a mama’s boy. You didn’t play when it came to him. You were always on top of things, from making sure we got to his activities on time, to keeping up with his schoolwork, and, most importantly, giving him endless love. I could go on forever, but the truth is that life will never be the same without you here. Chase and I will miss you deeply every day. We love you, and we’ll honor you in everything we do.   3. Whether you need a stocking stuffer or some kindling for the yuletide fire, pick up 'Nothing You Do Matters' for the holidays! Locally, McNally Robinson Booksellers has a good number of copies in stock (and if you’re down on Broadway, Turning the Tide has a few copies as well). You can buy in store or online at either store. I urge you to shop local, but you can also get the book on Amazon in paperback and Kindle formats. 'Nothing You Do Matters' is a collection of 12 short stories pried out of my peculiar brain, a grab bag of nonsense of different tones and ideas. Some of the stories are funny, some are dark or satirical takes on things like fame, youth, and social media. There are even a couple of prairie ghost stories for good measure. It has been an incredibly fun and successful project, so thanks to everyone who has supported me. There will still be copies around next year, but I’m winding down promotion and will only be doing smaller print runs going forward. So, grab a copy for yourself or someone you love.
