  1. 🧠 𝐏𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐍𝐓 ⁣ Any athlete who has trained with me knows that I am a little fanatical about using proper technique/mechanics on our exercises…even the boring and seemingly less important warmup ones. ⁣ ⁣ As a young athlete myself I always subscribed to the notion that “practice makes perfect.” I worked extremely hard and always “got my reps in” whether I wanted to or not and even if I just banged them out mindlessly to make sure I ticked that “hard work” box ✅⁣ ⁣ When I began to study motor learning & Neurocognitive development I quickly learned that practice does NOT actually make perfect but practice does makes permanent. ⁣ ⁣ Keyboard warriors can go ahead and argue about the exact number of reps 🤦🏻‍♂️ but please focus on the concept here…⁣ ⁣ In his studies on motor pattern development and disruption, motor learning expert Richard Schmidt observed that the acquisition of a new motor pattern in a closed-motor skill generally required between 300-500 repetitions to induce neuro-plastic changes in the brain. ⁣ ⁣ Conversely, correcting a faulty movement pattern that has become ingrained can require between 3,000-5,000 reps to change!!⁣ ⁣ Coaching new athletes (and particularly young athletes) is an upfront investment of time with a big potential long term payoff… if you do it right. ⁣ ⁣ As a coach you should want your athletes to do it right for their sake…but if that’s not motivation enough for you then at least do it selfishly so that it doesn’t take you 10x as long to change those bad habits once that pattern is ingrained. ⁣ If it is worth doing, it is worth doing well! ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 𝐀.𝐁.𝐂. - 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐁𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 👊🏻

  2. 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐎𝐒 𝐈𝐒 𝐅𝐔𝐍! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So much of what we do in the weight room is controlled, linear/uniplanar…and for good reason! It allows us to apply a greater and more controlled stimulus to the muscle and keeps us safe when handling heavy loads…but that in and of itself is not enough to prepare elite team-sport athletes. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Dancing through ladders and touching stationary pylons can definitely have a place in training as a reliable warmup tool, a rehab/prehab progression step or as basic general conditioning but REAL agility for sport requires;⁣⁣ reaction, mobility, balance, coordination, adaptability, visual tracking, spatial and body awareness ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This is a little glimpse into one of the ways that we develop these qualities away from the actual sport itself. Like all of our training we will gradually progress this work to add more movement, greater speeds and greater challenges to overcome as we move along through the off season. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This is also a great opportunity to highlight the work of my great friend and colleague Andre Talbot from @spiritloft a true movement guru! 23 years ago we were bitter rivals on the football field (well, actually I was the only one who was bitter as I spent most of the game chasing him around unsuccessfully)…then I had the honour of coaching him during his successful CFL career…then he became a full time coach here in our program until he found his true calling and opened up his amazing facility @spiritloft. Now he is a trusted resource and it fills me with joy to be able to collaborate together and provide these athletes with cool movement learning opportunities like this! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Moving and adapting through chaos and finding a way to have fun while you’re working through it… good for sports and for life!

  3. He said “I know who you are Olunike. Great job on The Porter and your career”😳 I don’t necessarily agree with all his politics but the Prime Minister of Canada knows my name and he was lovely. He celebrated with us and honoured us as we journeyed on the Freedom Train. Doors have been and continue to be knocked down by many incredible Black people across this country from past and present. I am so honoured to be amongst those change makers✊🏾 Thank you to the @blackhurstcc organizers that invited me to speak on the Freedom Train last night. An incredible experience I will keep with me and share the knowledge of our Black Community. I recited a poem called “We Tellin Stories Yo” by my dear close friend @dbiyounganitafrika My name is Olunike Adeliyi a performer that understands the privileges I’ve been awarded by standing on the shoulders of giants that came before me. I do not lack struggle. However I know the importance of my struggles and the continued responsibility of knowing and passing down black history to the future generations and more specifically Black Canadian history that has rarely been at the forefront. Emancipation Day in Canada is our opportunity to never forget those who have paved the way for us to thrive and black people that continue to build platforms for our visibility. Emancipation Day is a celebration and a reminder of our historical excellence and our continued efforts to be free. 2. As many of my friends and family know, I have been on a journey of holistic health for over a decade. I spent many years learning and reading on my own, starting with Alejandro Jungar, to Anthony Williams, to religiously reading Weston.A.Price Foundation. These authors, healers and doctors made me realize the power of nutrition on our physical and emotional health and how we can truly change how we feel by modifying the foods we eat. When covid happened, I had a really hard time wrapping my head around the worlds reaction to a virus. Covid was a catalyst for change for me. I started to feel very bogged down by social media and realized I needed to revaluate where I spent my energy. So I decided to take a step back, get off social media, and direct my energy towards something I had control of and that was EDUCATION. I spent two years, reading, studying, taking night classes and 💯 determined to becoming a CNP and striving to make a meaningful difference in peoples lives. Today, on the 2nd day of Persian new year I got a special call from Jason, our campus manager/program coordinator, that I was graduating with first class honours and was also chosen by my peers as the valedictorian of the graduating class. What a way to ring in the new year! I don’t know how to put into words the emotions I am feeling! There is nothing more special than being recognized by your peers, and knowing you had a positive impact on a learning environment. Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey, you know who you are ❤️ Most importantly, I want to thank my husband @alvibp who encouraged me to follow my passion and never give up on my dreams. As Hippocrates once said “let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food.” We only have one body, so treat it well, give it what it needs, and in turn it will take care of you ✨ 🙏

  2. Most people have no clue about this ingredient… CARRAGEENAN — a common additive used to thicken and stabilize many dairy and non-dairy products. It’s a derivative of red seaweed which would make one think it’s ’clean or healthy.’ But here’s the truth most people miss 👇🏻 —• Carrageenan has been linked to gut inflammation, bloating, and even damage to the intestinal lining in animal studies. —• Some research shows it can trigger an immune response similar to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The Food and Drug Administration still approves this ingredient. But in 2016, the National Organic Standards Board voted to remove carrageenan from their approved list. This means foods made with carrageenan can no longer be labeled “USDA organic. So why is it still used? 🤔 Because it makes your products look “creamy” and shelf-stable — at the cost of your gut health. No thanks.🙂‍↔️ Look out for: ⚠️ Carrageenan ⚠️ “Seaweed-derived thickener” ➡️ Found in: nut milks, ice cream, cottage cheese, sour cream, whipping cream & more. Clean labels matter. Your gut deserves better. Follow me for more label-reading hacks and ingredient truth bombs that help you shop smart and steward your health wisely! @iam.kaylalucas Let’s detox, discern & do wellness differently 🌱 #carrageenan #guthealthmatters #foodlabeltruth #wellnesstips #hiddeningredients #dairyalternatives #healthfreedom #naturalwellness #detoxyourlife #ingredientawareness #holistichealth #momlife #canadianwellness #readyourlabels #toxinfreejourney

  1. Suicide Prevention Month I never thought I’d share this story but l feel like i’m finally ready. Looking at this picture of me back in 2017, you wouldn’t think anything was wrong, l was living with my best friend and his family, playing hockey in a place l loved, and l had the best hockey season in my whole life. But deep down l was broken inside... l was constantly fighting with my own brain and l spent countless nights awake thinking if it was even worth it. I moved to Prince Albert and instantly didn’t really feel accepted and l had so much anxiety every time l walked into a classroom. l didn’t show it because l felt like l would be considered weak because “boys aren’t supposed to be sad”. It came to a point where I thought so low of myself and l didn’t feel like anyone cared if l died. To be honest l didn’t even think l was gonna make it to my 17th Birthday. Then suicidal thoughts came in, and it lead to self harm, which lead to me telling friends l was thinking of ending my own life... but thankfully l was talked out of it by my closest peers and I’m so happy they were there for me. I’m so blessed to say l had an amazing support system and l was able to talk to some of my closest friends and get counselling to get better. I truly believe you’re never alone in your battle with mental health, don’t be afraid to speak up ❤️ I tagged some of the people I can’t thank enough for potentially saving my life back in 2017, I love you all ❤️❤️

  1. We spent three days on Nipissing territory making bark baths with youth, staff, and community. It rained nonstop. The mosquitoes left us swollen. We adapted. And we finished. Hundreds of bark baths.. made the old way.. now in the hands of our people. This isn’t a wellness trend. This is high-functioning medicine. This recipe was passed down by medicine people who used it their entire careers.. And they never saw it fail. Neither have I. Eczema, psoriasis, scarring, hormonal acne, burns, chemo damage.. we’ve used this thousands of times. So far? Not a single skin condition has survived it. Here's why it works: 🌱 Adopweaash, Alder (Alnus spp.) Oregonin – a diarylheptanoid compound that targets deep hormonal dysregulation and reduces inflammatory cytokines at the root of acne, eczema, and even PCOS-related skin flares. 🌿 Ziisagopimish, Willow (Salix spp.) Salicin – a natural prodrug that metabolizes to salicylic acid in the skin, triggering directed healing responses, clearing damaged tissue, reducing keratin buildup, and targeting pathogen overgrowth. It tells the skin: heal here. 🌿 Azaatii, Poplar (Populus spp.) Populin & Tremulacin.. calming polyphenols that create the healing environment by downregulating inflammatory enzymes like COX-2 and soothing sensory nerves.. the skin’s version of a safe place to rest. The combination of heat, medicine and acids are just like a sweat lodge or exercise, the mild insult pushes the body to respond and rebuild. Then blood rushes in.. and healing begins. My muma just called this “a bath.” That’s how ordinary it was. But now, being this far removed from those teachings, we call it therapy. Mino bimaadiziwin isn’t a luxury. It’s what happens when you return to the rhythm. When you align knowledge with action. It’s time to take it back. Our health. Our ways. #BarkBaths #Nibiising #AnishinaabeMedicine #TraditionalHealing #IndigenousPharmacology #MinoBimaadiziwin #HormonalAcne #EczemaHelp #SkinHealing #LandBasedMedicine #ReclaimTheBath #WeWereBornForThis

  2. Save this for later and don’t be afraid to try—this is one of those recipes that feels as special as they taste. Happy Father's Day...if you know, you know. 😊🙏🏻🇮🇹 Zeppole di San Giuseppe (12 large zeppole) Pastry: • 250 ml cold water • 200 g butter, cut into cubes • 5 g salt • 250 g flour (00 or all-purpose) • 7 eggs (about 350 g without shell) Method: In pot over medium heat, add water, butter, and salt. Stir gently as it warms to melt butter. As soon as mixture reaches a boil, add flour at once. Mix immediately and keep stirring for a couple of minutes until smooth and lump-free. Dough will begin to pull away from sides of pot and will form smooth ball. A slight film will form on bottom of stainless steel pot. Transfer dough to bowl and let cool for a few minutes. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. For the last egg, go slowly—you may not need all of it. The dough should be glossy, thick, and pipeable. It should hold its shape and form a “V” when lifted with spatula. Or wooden spoon stands up straight when placed in middle of dough. May need to add extra half egg. Better to be on the thick side than too soft. Line baking tray (or double tray) with parchment paper. Pipe dough into circles, two layers, using a star tip. Bake at 400°F for 15–20 minutes, then reduce to 375°F and bake for another 20 minutes, or until golden and puffed. Do not open oven before 30 minutes. Baked dough should feel light and airy. Remove and let cool completely in a draft-free area. Do not cover. You can also let them cool in oven with door slightly open. Once cooled, slice and fill with pastry cream or cannoli-style ricotta. Top with Amarena cherries, dust with icing sugar, and serve. (Recipe for filling coming soon.) Storage: Filled shells can be stored in the refrigerator, lightly covered for a few hours. Unfilled shells: store in an airtight container for up to 1 day (re-crisp in oven if needed) For longer storage: freeze unfilled shells in an airtight container. Uncooked dough can be covered tightly, refrigerated, and piped the next day to bake. #marisamariella #marisamariella #zeppole #sangiuseppe #chouxpastry
