  3. #LanguageMatters In #Canada, the term #Aboriginal was described in The Constitution Act as an umbrella term to refer to the collective of all #FirstNations (both status and non-status), #Métis, and #Inuit. For a number of reasons, including the desire to describe ourselves in a way that doesn’t come from a colonial government’s legal Act, the term Aboriginal has generally been replaced by #Indigenous, although Aboriginal is still perfectly acceptable and not derogatory. The term Indigenous is also an umbrella term that refers to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit. Often, the term Indigenous is incorrectly used to only refer to First Nations. Previously, First Nations have been referred to as #Native or #Indian (as per The Indian Act). Some First Nations may still refer to themselves with these terms, including #N8V and #NDN. In the USA, #AmericanIndian and #NativeAmerican are the terms used to describe the First Peoples within the colonial borders of the United States of America. There are many First Nations identities and with enormous diversity between First Nations (e.g., Plains Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Dene, etc.), with many different languages and dialects among all the First Nations. Many First Nations people will identify themselves as their specific identity. For example, instead of saying, “I am First Nations,” I would instead say, “I am Saulteaux.” As per the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan’s definition, Métis means “a person, who self identifies as Métis, is distinct from other Aboriginal peoples, is of historic Métis Nation Ancestry and is accepted by the Métis Nation.” Every descendant of a Métis person is also Métis. First Nations blood quantum is not used to describe or validate a person’s Métis-ness. The language of the Métis is #Michif. Inuit are an Indigenous people living primarily in Inuit Nunangat. Inuit is the plural term, which means “people,” used to describe #Inuk (singular) persons. The majority of Inuit live in 51 communities spread across Inuit Nunangat, the Inuit homeland encompassing 35 percent of Canada’s landmass and 50 percent of its coastline. The language of the Inuit is #Inuktut. Language matters.

  2. As many of my friends and family know, I have been on a journey of holistic health for over a decade. I spent many years learning and reading on my own, starting with Alejandro Jungar, to Anthony Williams, to religiously reading Weston.A.Price Foundation. These authors, healers and doctors made me realize the power of nutrition on our physical and emotional health and how we can truly change how we feel by modifying the foods we eat. When covid happened, I had a really hard time wrapping my head around the worlds reaction to a virus. Covid was a catalyst for change for me. I started to feel very bogged down by social media and realized I needed to revaluate where I spent my energy. So I decided to take a step back, get off social media, and direct my energy towards something I had control of and that was EDUCATION. I spent two years, reading, studying, taking night classes and 💯 determined to becoming a CNP and striving to make a meaningful difference in peoples lives. Today, on the 2nd day of Persian new year I got a special call from Jason, our campus manager/program coordinator, that I was graduating with first class honours and was also chosen by my peers as the valedictorian of the graduating class. What a way to ring in the new year! I don’t know how to put into words the emotions I am feeling! There is nothing more special than being recognized by your peers, and knowing you had a positive impact on a learning environment. Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey, you know who you are ❤️ Most importantly, I want to thank my husband @alvibp who encouraged me to follow my passion and never give up on my dreams. As Hippocrates once said “let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food.” We only have one body, so treat it well, give it what it needs, and in turn it will take care of you ✨ 🙏

  2. Most people have no clue about this ingredient… CARRAGEENAN — a common additive used to thicken and stabilize many dairy and non-dairy products. It’s a derivative of red seaweed which would make one think it’s ’clean or healthy.’ But here’s the truth most people miss 👇🏻 —• Carrageenan has been linked to gut inflammation, bloating, and even damage to the intestinal lining in animal studies. —• Some research shows it can trigger an immune response similar to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The Food and Drug Administration still approves this ingredient. But in 2016, the National Organic Standards Board voted to remove carrageenan from their approved list. This means foods made with carrageenan can no longer be labeled “USDA organic. So why is it still used? 🤔 Because it makes your products look “creamy” and shelf-stable — at the cost of your gut health. No thanks.🙂‍↔️ Look out for: ⚠️ Carrageenan ⚠️ “Seaweed-derived thickener” ➡️ Found in: nut milks, ice cream, cottage cheese, sour cream, whipping cream & more. Clean labels matter. Your gut deserves better. Follow me for more label-reading hacks and ingredient truth bombs that help you shop smart and steward your health wisely! @iam.kaylalucas Let’s detox, discern & do wellness differently 🌱 #carrageenan #guthealthmatters #foodlabeltruth #wellnesstips #hiddeningredients #dairyalternatives #healthfreedom #naturalwellness #detoxyourlife #ingredientawareness #holistichealth #momlife #canadianwellness #readyourlabels #toxinfreejourney

  1. 😔 There are so many more points I could highlight: The Quebec Mosque shootings Vigil cancelled, Defamation of the Terry Fox Statue, Swastikas on Canadian Flags….. the list goes on, but many of my more eloquent colleagues have already addressed them. 🤬 I’m angry, saddened, disappointed and shocked at the following over the last few days. I know plenty of amazing truck drivers and NONE joined this monstrosity of a circus. ‼️To anyone who tries to comment/aDM me to tell me that this convey was anything but what it actually stood for- it won’t be tolerated and comments will be deleted. FYI: that’s not Me silencing you. I owe you nothing, including my time or wall space when it comes to supporting white supremacy and “freedom fighters”. ‼️ IF you claim you did your research, and STILL believe that this was about non-vaccinated truckers and “freedom”, then: either there is an inability to recognize your lacking research skills OR you admit to being of the same mentality. Either one is dangerous. ‼️ IF, you showed up and yelled “Freedom!”, held up signs or flags and NOW you are saying: “But, I didn’t know!”, all I can say is: Then you should have done a better job of educating yourself. The info is all out there🤷🏻‍♀️ You are an adult. Now be accountable for what comes with blindly following. 👉🏼 This is unacceptable. This isn’t about freedom. Educate yourself. Be better. Dr. Tash 🙏🏼👩🏻‍⚕️ Disclosure: All posts are not all encompassing. Everyone “knows someone”. Every group has “bad applies & good apples”. I support choice. But that’s NOT what this is about. Recognize the assignment and read what the focus of this post is on a larger scale. I shouldn’t have to explain that. #disgusted #dobetter #research #makegoodchoices #educateyourself #thisisntfreedom #stopthemadness #truckdrivers #frontline #vaccine

  2. 😢 The recent news of 5 year old Ava-Mae is heartbreaking. Sadly, since the news, there have been many inappropriate publicly posted comments questioning what happened. But, why? 👏🏽 I want to thank the parents who have reached out with general questions. You asked privately & respectfully. FYI: I don’t think any new details have been released. Focus should be respecting the family’s space while mourning. 👏🏽 I also, want to take this moment to recognize those parents who have shared with me how this news has made them feel. I can only imagine how hearing this news has made you look at your kiddos and wonder-what if? You’re not alone. Your fears are validated. This is not an uncommon reaction and thought process. 🩺 As a physician dedicated to Pediatric health and safety, the medical community has always been transparent about COVID in the Pediatric population. The truth is, COVID has become more prominent in the Pediatric population. The numbers are rising. ER visits are increasing. This is our current reality. ✔️ You have sacrificed a lot. ✔️ You have listened to public health. ✔️ Followed the rules ✔️ Got yourself & your kids vaccinated. ✔️ Masked up. ✔️ Minimized socializing. 😪 It’s been hard. All your sacrifices were effective. If you are feeling tired & apathetic, no one blames you. It’s been exhausting. On the flip side, if we hadn’t put in all the effort and dedication; we could have been in a worse situation much sooner. 👊🏼 You are doing the best you can and even if it’s not 100%, that’s ok. I want us all to stop and think about where we see ourselves, families, communities in a few months? 📆 For the coming months we need to shift back to the collective goal and urge everyone to: - Get your third dose (or help those that need assistance to get access) - Get your kids vaccinated (if eligible) - Minimize large gatherings - Minimize socializing if you have any sick symptoms - Mask up - Ventilate enclosed areas where you are spending extended periods of time 🙏🏼 I hope we can dig deep and find that energy and motivation again to lessen the impact on our kids and get us out of this pandemic, Dr. Tash 👩🏻‍⚕️🙏🏼 #strongertogether

  1. We spent three days on Nipissing territory making bark baths with youth, staff, and community. It rained nonstop. The mosquitoes left us swollen. We adapted. And we finished. Hundreds of bark baths.. made the old way.. now in the hands of our people. This isn’t a wellness trend. This is high-functioning medicine. This recipe was passed down by medicine people who used it their entire careers.. And they never saw it fail. Neither have I. Eczema, psoriasis, scarring, hormonal acne, burns, chemo damage.. we’ve used this thousands of times. So far? Not a single skin condition has survived it. Here's why it works: 🌱 Adopweaash, Alder (Alnus spp.) Oregonin – a diarylheptanoid compound that targets deep hormonal dysregulation and reduces inflammatory cytokines at the root of acne, eczema, and even PCOS-related skin flares. 🌿 Ziisagopimish, Willow (Salix spp.) Salicin – a natural prodrug that metabolizes to salicylic acid in the skin, triggering directed healing responses, clearing damaged tissue, reducing keratin buildup, and targeting pathogen overgrowth. It tells the skin: heal here. 🌿 Azaatii, Poplar (Populus spp.) Populin & Tremulacin.. calming polyphenols that create the healing environment by downregulating inflammatory enzymes like COX-2 and soothing sensory nerves.. the skin’s version of a safe place to rest. The combination of heat, medicine and acids are just like a sweat lodge or exercise, the mild insult pushes the body to respond and rebuild. Then blood rushes in.. and healing begins. My muma just called this “a bath.” That’s how ordinary it was. But now, being this far removed from those teachings, we call it therapy. Mino bimaadiziwin isn’t a luxury. It’s what happens when you return to the rhythm. When you align knowledge with action. It’s time to take it back. Our health. Our ways. #BarkBaths #Nibiising #AnishinaabeMedicine #TraditionalHealing #IndigenousPharmacology #MinoBimaadiziwin #HormonalAcne #EczemaHelp #SkinHealing #LandBasedMedicine #ReclaimTheBath #WeWereBornForThis
