  1. How to become a commercial model and book $10K jobs: There are two main types of modelling - high fashion and commercial. When most people think of modelling, they think of high fashion, where you must fit a very specific “model” look. However for commercial modelling, there’s a lot more flexibility. Here are the two main things casting agents for commercial jobs are looking for: 1. What you look like. Yes, this is still probably the most important thing, but, this is not just being “conventionally attractive”. For some brands, this might still be what they’re looking for, but oftentimes, they’re looking for more than just that, and place more importance on the specific features they’re looking for that have nothing to do with conventional attractiveness. Often they’re looking for (and will state this in the casting call) someone with a particular ethnicity, age, or specific identifying feature such as hairstyle or skin type or persona that is portrayed through their looks. I’ve attached some examples of casting calls I’ve gotten down below in the pinned comments \/. 2. Your acting - even if you have the right look visually in photos, once the camera is rolling, are you able to convincingly become the character they want you to be? Aka are you able to portray the right expressions, movements, and persona they’re looking for in videos on top of photos? If they want you to be a sophisticated businesswoman and mother of three for a high-end property ad, can you portray the confidence, elegance and maturity of that character? TLDR: Looking like a conventional “model” is not as important to book commercial jobs, fitting a specific look + having good acting /skills in front of the camera will get you far!   2. How to take a self tape that lands jobs: 1. Lighting!!! Aim for natural daylight lighting, or use a ringlight (I use one 12in in diameter on the warmest light setting, Amazon has these for pretty cheap and they’re good quality). Lighting actually makes all the difference (in my opinion) 2. Shoot horizontally. Casting directors prefer videos that are shot horizontally, they will usually say so in the casting call but this is the standard. 3. Natural makeup/neutral outfit. Make sure your makeup looks natural, and don’t wear any accessories/clothing that would be too distracting, since casting directors want to see what you actually look like/be able to envision you in the role they’re picturing. The exception is if you think you could wear something/ do your makeup a certain way to help you fit what they’re picturing better - then go for it! the idea is you want to look either like a blank slate or already looking like the character / already wearing the clothing + makeup style they were envisioning. 4. Show your personality! Since this is a video, you can really show your personality, I usually try to think about what type of personality or character the casting director is looking for for this role - and show that I would fit that role through this video. 5. Shoulders back/ Confidence.   2. @chen_yvr has to be the most unique Vietnamese experience in all of lower mainland Vancouver. They have a really good crab parcel that I recommend you to try. The Hanoi Donut reminded me of the Chinese donut but instead of congee it comes with their rich broth. Their vermicelli and bun Bo Hue are both really solid dishes to try. The dish that makes them really unique is their vermicelli and fermented shrimp paste. It comes with different herbs and veggies and there's some sausages to intestine and much more. The shrimp paste has a strong fermented taste to it and you can cut some of that taste with the calamansi and like they provide. I do recommend trying this out at least once if you haven't tried it before.   2. Original clip was 5:40 of tests 😅❤️ The finished product is so often all that you see on here. Behind it is a lot of time, sweat, & scraps.😅 As cool as a complex choreography combo might LOOK, it still has to work and make sense. Which means you need to be able to break it down and build it up.⛰️ It’s not always flawless, and it doesn’t always land. There’s been a few times I thought a combo would SLAY and whether it was that the song choice was too short, too quick, too flat, or my delivery was too rushed, too cramped, too confusing, it’s not always perfect.🤷🏼‍♀️ But the best way to work it out is on the bike & in the room.✨ So here’s some behind the scenes of trying to make this one work & what the end result was. Keeping in mind, that the practice clips were literally almost 6 minutes long, but that’s not even factoring in the time prior that I spent at home listening and choreographing to it, or all of the takes that were the final filmings that DIDN’T work. I see so many talented ‘blonding specialists’ online but rarely come across ‘brunette specialists.’ As much as a love creating soft, seamless blondes - there’s just something about a rich brunette that sparks joy for me. Here are a few tips I use to create the perfect shiny brunette and why - 1. I don’t ever reach for a developer higher than 10Vol. This is KEY to creating a soft, natural brunette. Using 10 vol helps prevent over-lifting and protect hairs integrity. Using a higher developer can sometimes lighten the hair too much pushing to the blonde range which is not necessary for creating a soft brunette. 2. I don’t lift higher than a level 6 as I want to maintain the richness of the brunette family. Lifting past a level 6 pushes the color too light entering that blonde/golden range, avoiding this helps prevent lighting to any unwanted warmth or brassiness 3. Sometimes I apply the all over gloss before rootmeling. If there happens to be too much contrast between the lift and the guests natural color, I’ll opt for this option to utilize the end tone for not only a beautiful result but to act as a “filler” to avoid any dull or muddy tones when brushing through the root melt 4. I always tone one level darker than the desired end result. This helps with longevity, as hair color fades over time, toning slightly darker ensures that as the color fades, it won’t turn brassy or wash out too quickly.   3. How I formulate and root shadow/root tap my blondes 👱🏼‍♀️✨- I like to look at my root shadow as a ‘transitional color’ I like to formulate one level LIGHTER than their natural color. When I am foiling, I am strategic with my foil placement ensuring throughout the application that I am already creating that “tear drop effect” with my foil application. Because I trust my blend, I don’t want my root melt to erase any of my foil work. To follow my foil placement when root melting, I drag the color down lower in the back and keep it higher around the hairline. For this root melt I used @redken SEQ straight 8N + 8T I glossed using SEQ 9GI I don’t like to over complicate my formulations and sometimes find the most beautiful results come from the simplest formulations ✨ #haireducation #yychairstylist #redkenformula #warmblonde #hairinspo
