First of its kind and the grand opening is happening on Feb 10 on lunar new year day. 🥢 Xiao Long Bao are soup filled dumplings with a thin wrapper and it’s typically steamed. Dip it in vinegar and chilli oil and it’s a pair made in heaven. We tried a lot of the soup dumplings and our favourites were the pork and coriander, truffle and pork, shrimp and pork were all our top faves.   2. Ottawa’s newest ramen shop just opened! Last Tuesday I was invited to @kintonramen ’s soft opening at their first Ottawa location on Elgin St. This Toronto ramen icon has finally landed in Ottawa. We loved their appetizers/sides and had two great big bowls of comforting ramen. Peep my recommendations below for your visit 👇 1. Do not skip the takoyaki and karaage (fried chicken). The takoyaki are buttery soft and melt in your mouth. The karaage comes in big fat chunks and is so juicy! We ordered the spicy version which is superrrrrrrrr saucy and not too spicy - highly recommend both of these. If you’re a less saucy lover, just ask for the sauce on the side or get the original :) 2. When ordering ramen definitely pick the thick noodle option. They just have a little extra bounce/chew and elevate the ramen experience. As for broth we tried the spicy beef (it’s a special at the moment) and the miso pork. I can’t recommend getting the spicy broth options enough. Whether it’s the chicken, pork or beef option, the heat just adds another delicious layer to the broth and a little itty bitty tingle. Yum. 3. Add a seasoned egg! Sooo perfectly jammy. A must. 4. Don’t skip the dessert. Simple but unique flavoured slices of cheesecake. We got the black sesame and yuzu. A great way to end the meal.   3. More soup dumplings, MORE LIFE! But seriously I couldn’t be happier to see more soup dumpling spots pop up around Ottawa. How blessed are we!? The shengjian bao, pan-fried soup dumplings here are toasted to perfection and filled with flavourful meat and soup. And yes! You can watch them being made through a small window here too. For me though my biggest excitement was finding this Shanghainese style wonton soup with a super light and clean broth with the addition of the dark roasted seaweed. This is something I haven’t been able to find anywhere else in town. The wontons are buttery soft and melt in your mouth too. I’ll definitely be going back here many times this winter.   3. Ok, so I’m in my feels today. My babies had their first (half) day of school! The morning didn’t go as smoothly as planned - surprisingly not because of school jitters, but because I didn’t do the pony tails in the exact way that was expected of me haha, went over the hair a few times. There were some nerves on the way to school, but zero tears before or during - yay!! So I would say first day was a success. I was even able to get Franki to stand still for a few pics, which is a challenge of its own. Tomorrow will be a whole day, and Mommy can start organizing my life. My house. My brain. If you’re chasing beautiful snow ghosts, this winter hike deserves a spot on your bucket list! ❄️ 📍 Mont Gosford 🚗 2.5 hours from Montreal or Quebec City 💲 Access fee required 🥾 Approximately 15 km round trip ⏱️ 4-6 hours 🥵 Difficult 🔝 585m positive elevation gain 🏔️ 1193m altitude at the summit 🗺️ Multiple trails lead to the summit. I personally followed SF1, SF6, and SF8, but you can ask the entrance booth attendant for the best route based on current conditions. 🐶 Dogs allowed ⚠️ Be sure to check the weather conditions and be well-prepared before attempting this winter hike. The summit is exposed and can get extremely cold and windy.
