The shengjian bao, pan-fried soup dumplings here are toasted to perfection and filled with flavourful meat and soup. And yes! You can watch them being made through a small window here too. For me though my biggest excitement was finding this Shanghainese style wonton soup with a super light and clean broth with the addition of the dark roasted seaweed. This is something I haven’t been able to find anywhere else in town. The wontons are buttery soft and melt in your mouth too. I’ll definitely be going back here many times this winter.   3. Ottawa’s newest Italian pastry shop and café We loved our experience at Dolci Sapori and will definitely be going back. All the desserts we tried were such great quality. Our top three were the pesche, the lobster tail and the pistachio cream filled croissant. This bakery makes everything in house, down to the pistachio cream!   1. FRIED CHICKEN!! Hot and honey + lemon pepper This was a collab of epic proportions!! Finally got the chance to cook with my brother @theheartbreakchef and the results did not disappoint. His award winning fried chicken is known throughout the city to be some of the best you can get anywhere and after watching this video you’ll understand why. Also shout out @merrysomers for the amazing fermented hot sauce used in this recipe. Recipe, 4 boneless chicken thighs 500ml buttermilk 20ml hot sauce 2 cup all purpose flour 1 tablespoon salt 2 tablespoons garlic powder 2 tablespoons onion powder 2 tablespoons paprika 2 teaspoons black pepper Pour you buttermilk over your chicken thighs with the hot sauce. Throughly mix and set aside in fridge for a couple hours to marinate. In a medium bowl mix all of your dry ingredients together to form the dredge for the chicken. When ready remove from buttermilk and throughly coat in the flour, don’t be shy. Shake off any excess flour and fry at 325 degrees for about 5 minutes per side depending on how large you thighs are. Lemon pepper; Mix together, 2 tablespoons coarse salt, dried lemon peel - 5 lemons worth, 1/2 cup ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder For the lemon peel set your oven to its lowest setting. Peel five lemons zest only and put them on a tray lined with parchment paper. Bake them very slowly until dried out completely. Blend in spice grinder. Julian serves up delicious Jamaican street food in addition to mouthwatering fusion items like their viral Oxtail Burger and their Oxtail Rosé Pasta. I have to agree with the many who say that this spot has some of the best fried chicken sandwiches in the city. Located in Kensington Market, this spot serves delicious big bites like the Big Ass Chicken Sandwich (yes it’s massive) and their Mac and Charlie with chicken. This spot also made me fall in love with brussel sprouts (when they’re glazed with honey and balsamic glaze lol!).
