  1. 2 months ago today, my life changed in an instant. A car hit me on my bike. That day led to surgery, a long fight to save my big toe on my left foot, and eventually an amputation on June 21. From crutches to relearning how to walk, to months of pain, swelling, and therapy… there have been so many days where even standing felt impossible. And today, exactly 2 months later, I’m starting to get back on two wheels. It’s not easy yet. Shifting up still hurts about 60% of the time, I miss about 10% of my shifts, and the other 30% go smoothly. For now, these will be short rides, just enough to rebuild my strength and my confidence. But the feeling of being back out there? It’s unreal. Riding has always been one of the most powerful outlets for my mental health. There’s something about getting on the bike that strips away all the noise and distractions of life. For a little while, it’s just me, the bike, and the road…nothing else matters except the simple joy of being out there. Today I felt a piece of myself come back that I’ve been missing since that moment. Here’s to progress, to healing, to refusing to stay down, and to finding yourself again in the places you thought you lost. There’s still so much more progress to be made. I still can’t walk properly, I’m still navigating a concussion and still very much not the same as I was, but I’m getting there, and this feels like a huge piece of getting my life back. I am so grateful to everyone who’s been in my corner. There’s a ton of recovery still to go, but I am beyond thankful that this day has come.

  2. An update, with some steps!!! 👇 As of today, I’ve officially been diagnosed with a concussion. My return-to-work date has been pushed from July 21 to “about 6 months.” I’m now doing physiotherapy for both my brain and my amputated foot, attending counselling, and seeing an occupational therapist weekly. I’m also awaiting an X-ray to confirm whether a potential neck fracture seen on my original CT scan is real or not. The healing process is slow, but it’s happening. My stitches are still healing, and I’ve just started practicing putting weight on my injured foot. Yesterday I took 5 steps. Today I took 10!! It might sound small, but every step feels like a giant leap toward getting my life back. It’s actually TERRIFYING to take each step! One day at a time. One step at a time. I’m not where I want to be yet, but I will get there!

  3. Life can change in the blink of an eye. Just 9 weeks ago we had the wedding of our dreams, followed, a few wonderful weeks as newlyweds, a mini honeymoon, then, 4 weeks ago, a life changing accident requiring emergency surgery, then being bedridden for weeks, a 2 day new look vacation to make some memories, and now we’re awaiting the call for the appointment time for big toe amputation tomorrow. Tell your people you love them. Take all the photos and videos. Remind them what they mean to you. Hug them tight. Be present in your moments of joy. One day, you’ll be grateful you did. 🫶🏻
