Honestly, the BEST (insane plus horrible) time ever — that made a huge difference on my whole life and personality. You can't really predict what a single day would be. Even if you manifested it to be another perfect day, unexpected things are bound to happen. Some things can hit your nerves and ruin the entire day. You can end up making mistakes at work. Or forget to eat your meals. The insane work hours leave you unfocused in real. You can encounter people with unpleasant character. Annoying traffic jam of stretchers and wheelchairs during rush hour. Wearing frown expressions all day. But on the other hand, you’d encounter so many unnamed feelings— satisfaction , content, happiness , overwhelming— the feeling of getting back a dying patient after a CPR. Ah, i cant even name it. Wholesome! So many ppl whom you healed, going home happily with their loved ones, the ones coming back for followups, bringing up goodies for you, asking for your name in the wards, giving you Unlimited duaas you never asked for. You are the healer, responsible for someone’s life. And then this hustle doesn’t seem that bad. If i look back on my journey, i have no regrets. Five years of medschool on one side and this whole year on another. There is no comparison. Stepping into professional life is starting as an intern where you’re freshly refined for the purpose, for all the hustle, for this wholesome satisfaction.   3. Its quarter past one I am in the emergency with 5 other colleagues. I am exhausted, mentally and physically. In the background I can hear the distant echo of my colleagues tending to the few patients who are under supervision. I sit down after 7 hours. Nights are easier... slower. Night time means less patients. But today it's unusually quiet. The calm before the storm. I zone out for a moment because of the fatigue and slip down the edge of my bench.Hardly minutes have passed when I startle awake.I hear screaming I turn around. A middle aged man supported by 2 other men enters the emergency room followed by a female and 2 kids. I can see from 5 feet away that he can't breathe.His companions help him on to a bed as I rush towards them. I am aware my gloves have a small tear in them but I let that pass. There's no time and I am the closest to the patient. My mind starts playing the list. Assess airway, check pulse, vitals, BSR, auscultate.. so on. He is cyanosed (sign he isnt getting enough oxygen) and is using accessory muscles for breathing. He is trying to breathe. He can't. I can see he can't. I know what's wrong with him. I know you know what's wrong with him too. All of you reading this, you know. I attach oxygen and shout at my colleague to get a shot of bronchodilator. Pulse is feeble His BP is 60 systolic The nurse is passing an IV line, she's giving him the drugs we just wrote in stat orders. I am trying to auscultate his chest but his family member standing next to me is begging me to save his life and i cant hear anything. I look at her. I don't have time to console her. My colleague asks her and the rest of the people who came with patient to stand outside and to trust us. I wash my hands. Change my gloves. Put on 2 this time. Its just 01:25. 10 mins and all this. A portable x ray machine has just taken a chest X-ray. As our senior holds it up, i can see it's not good at all. I attach ECG leads to his chest. We need everything for documentation. He is bradycardiac.He is hypoxic His ABGs are not looking good. And just like that, right infornt of my eyes He collapses,He is not breathing. I cant feel his pulse.I cant hear his heart. [continued]
