These things include; a proposal, a wedding, the birth of our three daughters, a premiership to your name, two Copeland trophies, a pandemic, two of our daughters started school, we’ve met some incredible people, lost some incredible people, moved 9 times, built two properties (one being our beautiful home). It is a garden for people and provides a biodiverse habitat for fauna of all types. It is also a garden that considers its energy footprint very carefully. Where do the hard landscape materials come from, how are they produced, can they be reused, are the pizzas on the @madebytait real ……. and importantly it is a zero waste garden.   2. Romance meets vineyard. Superbly designed barn architecture reminiscent of former agricultural land use has been artfully stitched into its viticulture context. The house and pool are elevated to create an engagement with the landscape of grapevines and hills beyond. And the paving arrangements echo these rows that kiss the garden and reinforce the relationship. Planting is soft and romantic. The graceful Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Little Bunny’, Verbena bonariensis, Phlomis purpurea, Gaura lindheimeri, white English Lavender, gnarled old transplanted Olives, Citrus and roses create a soft mantle that breaks the strong forms and lines. Best shower award too. This wonderful garden was designed by Roderick Wylie and James Lord of Surface Design (who kindly met us there) and expertly installed by Dexter Constructions and Dave Dexter also accompanied us on our galavanting around the countryside visiting other gardens he and his team had installed.   3. Celebrating 30 years with my favourite person, exploring nature on the lands of Darramurragal or Darug people. From @trinco_pittwater (first pic - the magical place where we stayed thanks to a very generous host @richard_unsworth ) by boat to Morning Bay with a breathtaking walk through the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park back to Elvina Bay. From the mesmerising Spotted Gum forests that hug the coastline, made even more beautiful by the drizzle that saturated the colours of their newly exposed spotted trunks and then suddenly up up up……. a steep winding gully of grass trees, NSW Christmas bushes studded with brilliant red stars and lichen covered sandstone boulders and caves. Finally into the rocky cliffs to discover flowering heaths, ancient gnarled Angophoras shedding bark like clothes being thrown on the ground in the brighest ochre, burnt banksia cone sculptures of extraordinary beauty and finally to a high rock shelf to find the Pittwater shrouded by a mysterious thick sea fog with glimpses of another civilisation. A perfect weekend with exceptional company.
