Rabbit & Nut Allergy! ⚠️ 2 years ago at preschool they had a rabbit come in, and Bella had a serious allergic reaction which put her in hospital. Since then she’s undergone regular testing at St Thomas’ in London - they are ABSOLUTELY brilliant there! They found she’s also allergic to nuts and she goes back for retesting/monitoring. It’s also complicated as she’s an identical twin (genetically identical) - so they give advice about that too. Today’s tests showed rabbits & nuts are still a NO - but they’ve also done bloodwork which we will await the results of. They’d like us to safely test some of the nuts she showed no/a very small reaction to under controlled circumstances this year which makes me nervous but also I think will hopefully be beneficial in the long run to help us all understand what they both can and can’t eat. Allergy parents - and advice/stories to share? Our brave babies! Thankyou NHS for taking such good care of us 💙

But I just wanted to share just one, of the many thousands of messages I receive, every single time I normalise boys wearing princess dresses like @fabulousbyteddy “Seeing Teddy have the confidence to not only write his Christmas list exactly as he wanted it, but to know that it would be received by his parents without any kind of reaction other than acceptance, has literally brought me to tears, I remember as a young boy being too afraid to ask for a doll and writing what I thought my parents wanted me to ask for. Happy Saturday all , I know it’s not officially Autumn but couldn’t wait to start decorating 🍂 🍁 I did the shower pole trick again to hang the garlands , I tried this last year with our Christmas garland & worked really well plus saves having to make holes in the brick! Garlands are from Amazon and I added faux acorn stems and some greenery that I already had. It’s so easy to do , I added a garland across the top of the pole and then hung one down either each side , I use cable ties to make them extra secure. Once the garlands are hung I then add on the individual picks. IKEA hack week 🛠 🧰 I love an IKEA hack! So thought this week I’d share one a day that we’ve tried. Yesterday I shared @ikeauk LOHALS rug hack if you want to check out my last post. Today is another @ikeauk IVAR hack , we made a kitchen pantry with 2 cabinets and bought another 2 to turn into wall cupboards for our utility makeover. Once assembled we attached to the wall with heavy duty hollow wall anchors. These cabinets are heavy ,so if mounted you need to make sure they’re well secured. Then added 6mm thick x 90mm wide mdf panels to create shaker style doors.The mdf also hides all the screws and the gap in the door. I don’t have the words right now and to be honest I am not sure that I ever will, but our hearts are broken and it feels like they will never be the same again. We will be taking a bit of time out as a family after our tragic loss yesterday and focus on looking after eachother. As we need to do our best to somehow help our kids heal their little broken hearts, because the one thing my Mum would never want is to see them sad. A Story of Love and Hope in Photos ❤️ Sometimes a picture paints a thousand words and I really think these few photos will sum up exactly what we are trying to say, but basically, there was a time in both of our lives that we felt like we didn’t fit in, like the happy ending wasn’t ever going to happen and that is was only ever really in fairytales that you find your Prince Charming! Well, as you can see, for us we did find our Prince Charming in eachother and have literally been living the life that we could have only ever dreamed of when growing up but it seems that sometimes dreams do come true. We haven’t yet done a proper post for #pridemonth2025 and that’s mainly because for us Pride is every single day and part of everything that we do, but it is an important time to remember and stand up for what is right, as without all the people who stood up for Pride before us, then none of this would have been possible. So, #happypridemonth to you all and thank you for always making us feel so accepted on this platform but please don’t stop standing up for what’s right and give a thought to those out there that are still not yet living without fear and that includes all members of our #lgbtqfamily some of which are having such a hard time at the moment. Is there anything better than confirmation from your child that you are doing a good job? Well the Boy’s birthday is approaching and usually adoption and his story don’t really come up in daily conversations, as that’s just not how it is, he understands it all and we are totally open about it BUT we are just his Dad/Daddy and he is just our Son, not adopted son or adopted parents, we are family! But, around special events like birthdays or times where emotions are running high, he seems to think about things a bit more than usual and that’s when some random questions about adoption come up. Well, tonight it came up like usual but in the most lovely way ever, as he said to me while going to bed: “Dad, I’ve been an Edwards-Middleton for all my 10 birthdays, so basically my whole life, and I am going to stay in this family now for all my birthdays” I just simply replied to say “We are family forever Son” and we kissed each other goodnight, it was a special moment and I honestly could have burst into tears hearing him say it, because deep down I know in his little mind that he probably has so many questions but right now all he wanted to say was that he wants to be with us forever. 👶🏼👶🏼 WE HAD SOME BABIES! 💗 Welcome to the world big bro - Rocky McDonald (5lb 6oz)& a fighter of a girl Jupiter McNuff (5lb 10oz). Born 16 minutes apart on the 14th of Jan. It’s been one heck of a past 10 days and I’m not sure I’ve processed it all yet. In fact, I haven’t at all. *This story might be sensitive for anyone currently pregnant or who’s suffered with birth trauma.* But here goes… In one sense, I had the most incredible birth - more than I could have hoped for. 3.5hrs from waters breaking at home to both twinnies making a speedy arrival in a birth pool at the hospital. No drugs (a personal choice). Just my mind and bod. Everything I wanted. After Rocky’s rapido exit, Jupiter came along shortly after - still inside her water sac - which is super rare. (1 in 80,000 babies!) - perhaps rarer still because I was born in my sac too. 🥰 It’s said to be very lucky 🍀 and that’s true. Because she also brought both placentas out with her and that meant she lost blood & oxygen in the last few minutes of birth. When we got Jupiter out of the sac, she should have cried and come to life, but she didn’t. She was whisked away (with Jamie) while I stayed with Rocky, clutching him in the pool and wondering whether he might be the only twin I got to take home that day. Those were the most terrifying minutes of my life. We spent the following week in intensive care, as the docs and nurses gradually brought Jupiter back to health. It broke my heart to see her hooked up to all sorts of monitors and wires but she did AMAZING. @adventureman and I slept in a chair next to the incubator (they gave up and wheeled us in a bed eventually) - so it also broke my heart to be away from Storm every night. She’s still my baby too, after all. We finally got to bring both Rocky and Jupiter home a few days ago and are now settling into life as a family of five. It’s madness and I’m exhausted but… 💕 Gratitude doesn’t even cover it. 💫 Birth is a miracle. 👶🏼 👶🏼 These babs are miracles. 🧚‍♂️ And the midwives, doctors and nurses at the Gloucester maternity and neonatal units are miracle-makers. *** 👇🏻🙏🏻 Some thank you’s in the comments

👯‍♀️TWINS!! “Well I can tell you right away that there’s two babies in there.” The sonographer had had the ultrasound stick on my gel-smeared belly for approximately ten seconds before she casually broke the news. 🤯 I’d like to say that I was calm and collected but, while busy holding in my calm, I *may* have let a few expletives escape. 🤬 @Adventureman did the same. But once I’d got those out of the way, I remember thinking. ‘This Is. Awesome!!!’ I also distinctly recall looking 👀 at where the sonographer now had both those little beans up on the black and white screeen and thinking… ‘Me? A mum of twins? Neveeeerrr.’ 🤰🏼The practicalities of carrying two babs and bringing them safely into the world hit me shortly afterwards. As did the logistics of us going from a one kid McFam to three kids overnight. 🚴‍♀️ 👶🏼 👶🏼 I also quickly googled how the heck you can cycle tour with twins. It’s okay people. There are tricycles for that. Phew. I’m now 20 weeks deep and overall, I am scared and excited and nervous and up for it and ALL OF THOSE THINGS at once. I’m calling it the Placenta Olympics. 🏆 Because growing two new organs and two humans is now my full-time occupation. I write books and give talks on the side…. 🫣 I have no doubt it will be absolute madness when they arrive. I’m sure I’ll feel overwhelmed, cry a lot (joy and frustration) and generally go doolally in the first few months but, oh-me-oh-my what a wonderful adventure it will be. 😟Falling short. We’re well into the meat of these few weeks with @Adventureman away on his travels and with him in patchy wifi, I’ve been making parenting decisions left, right and centre. All was plain sailing on the milky ocean with the boob feeding of the twins. 🌊 🥛🫡 In fact, it was going so well that I was wondering why I struggled so much in the early months with Storm… (I almost gave up breastfeeding every week until three months then carried on to 10 months 🙀). But… at 6 weeks both twins seemed forever hungry, and constantly ratty. 😭 We had a week of crying and me feeling like I couldn’t do anything to fix it. Then we discovered that Rocky wasn’t gaining the weight that he should. He was falling off the bottom of the growth chart and, in turn, I felt like I was falling short. With two punters pitching up at it every few hours (and a toddler to manage in between opening hours) it was apparent that the McBoob Bar had run dry. 🍹🍸 🍺🍷 ‘How about we do some formula top ups?’ Said the ever-wise Mummy McNuff. 🤔 I thought for a moment. It felt weird. I’d always wanted to (and just assumed) I’d 100% breast feed these babbas. I always have so much faith in the ability of our bodies to do what they’re naturally built to do that I wondered if, in looking for another option, I was failing in some way. But I was exhausted. ‘Let’s give it a bash’ I said. We ordered up some bottles, cracked open a tub of formula. And oh my. What a difference. 🎉 The fact that I could now have someone else feed them while I slept, or took Storm out or… danced naked down the street (okay, maybe not the last one)… was a revelation. I had CHOICES. It was like a pressure valve released. 💥😮‍💨 The crying cut in half (hey, they’re still babies). Rocky packed on four times as much weight in one week as he had previously. G’waaaan boyo! 💪🏻 They’re still 70% breast fed but I have soooo many more options. I can pump it out, shake it all about and put it into bottles, feed old school booby style or mix it up with some formula. Breast is best they say, and I wholeheartedly agree but these are my breasts and this is ‘my’ best. And that’s alright by me.

02.12.57 - 12.09.25 My beautiful and courageous Mum died on Friday evening, supported and loved in my Dad’s arms. To say we are lost without her is an understatement. She was the centrepiece of our family and the person who shaped me as a person and as a mum. Mum 💔 You lived your life with such quiet beauty, grateful, gentle, and so brilliantly funny. We will miss you forever. Life will never be the same. I’ll always remember you as you were when I was a little girl… the sound of you shuffling around the kitchen in your slippers, cuppa in hand, up and down the stairs folding the washing or throwing down an air guitar to Cliff Richard on a rainy afternoon while we had every activity we owned strewn across the house. Our chaos filled your world and you were our calm always. And that continued right up until you left us. What felt ordinary to you will forever be extraordinary to me.
