I never anticipated these kinds of challenges with breastfeeding, especially after nursing my older two without much difficulty.   1. I was in the ‘Dome the night he scored in overtime to send the Flames to the second round of the playoffs in 2022. I swear the foundation of that old building was shaking, the eruption from the crowd was so violently joyous. It was the outpouring of love, awe, and gratitude for our fiery hero…watching the passion and fervour Johnny Hockey played with felt electric. There are no words that can match the tragedy of what has happened. Waking up to the news of Johnny and Matthew’s passing hit my family like a ton of bricks, not only for their senseless deaths, but the gripping heartbreak for their loved ones who face the unimaginable. Let the hockey world rally around the Gaudreau’s, their families and friends, and although we can’t even start to understand the depth of their shock and pain, I hope they are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support. Go easy on those legends up there in heaven’s hockey rink, boys. You’re getting there earlier than expected, but they’ll take good care of you.   3. Ending my two-week visit with new and improved pipes, some fancy hardware and a figuratively full heart. The bones of this building may be old, but the spirit and passion of every teammate here keeps it bustling and alive. I am humbled by the humanity pouring out of every talented surgeon, wonderful nurse, skilled doctor, motivational physio, eager nursing student and everyone in between. Namely, thank you to the teams on Units 103A, 94, and 91…your care has been beyond amazing! …and just when the tough moments of recovery feel like hours, inevitably I get a note from friends. Lifelong or brand new, close or distant, dear or unknown- the well-wishes are like little painkillers, boosts of inspiration when I need it most. You have no idea how you all have lifted me. They say “friendship is a wildly underrated medication”….thank you for giving me the max dose. Off to enjoy the rest of the Flames season from the comfort of my favourite chair instead of on hospital wifi (if you know, you know)!   3. 🧡 Today I acknowledge Truth and reconciliation day. Reflecting on the harm that was caused by the system, remembering the children who never made it home, and acknowledging the generational affect that is has on the ones who live on. My indigenous heritage is something that I honestly do not know much about. This was something that could not be passed down through my family because well, my grandfather never really spoke about it. As a boy he experienced residential school, and had no connection to his real parents as he was adopted from a young age. A few years back he passed away, and I regret not asking him more about his past and our heritage. He was one of the most beautiful people I have ever known, his heart was always light and his love for nature was something I’ve always taken after. I believe that reconciliation can be a beautiful thing and can be done through love, compassion, and curiosity for generations to come. It is never too late to learn and it is certainly never too late to share love and compassion regardless of where you come from. 💛💛

Her gaze is direct and firm, bloodshot, her face is painted with marks similar to moth antennae. She is placed in an atmosphere void of specificity, and yet feels familiar, like water, sky, whirling clouds or water. As she is solid, she is also organically changing, the striations representing layers of experience, resilience through complexity, movement and topography, and flow. The growths within her and outside of her, are almost their own antenna capturing the movement outside the body to translate within, and to give guidance towards a direction to follow. (Print will not include the purple frame in the image, but wanted to share it here, made by @yrkypk ) Epipelagic, also known as the sunlight zone, refers to the highest/first zone of the ocean. This figure is comprised of gelatinous bodies, primarily the lionsmane jellyfish (whose extremely long tentacles can double as a protective shroud for other sea life to hide within). Gelatinous forms disintegrate outside of water pressure, and these painted forms represent jellies that have been beached. Upon seeing the giant flattened, and overturned jellyfish, I was reminded of the exact forms of placentas – the expelled and beautiful organs created for purpose of providing for and connecting mother and child during pregnancy. The figures become 𝙥𝙨𝙚𝙪𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙥𝙝𝙨, embodying and enacting gestures familiar within ourselves, as they appear in the processes of coming together and coming apart. Re-working, and repair, become tenets to self-actualization and empowerment that celebrates expansive and nuanced experiences. Prioritizing mental health when considering self-care in relation to motherwork has created deep and nuanced avenues to explore. This figure reflects a consideration towards the nervous system (polyvagal theory), coral growths, and marine animals in particular the iron snail (scaly-foot gastropod) . These snails thrive in the deepest parts and most challenging parts of the ocean, alongside hydrothermal vents (deep sea volcanoes) and whose bodies are completely covered in iron (plates on their soft bodies, and iron on their shells) not merely external coatings, but derived from a symbiotic partnership with the bacteria living within their bodies, who process the chemicals from the vents into food for the snails, and thus create metallic waste channeled through the bodies and deposited as scales. The figure holds one in each hand, as they make their way up the form, balancing on one leg. The labyrinth growths, change in color as they make their way to the head, where they are closest to the sun, and are bleached (a negative effect of climate change) and detrimental to ocean survival.   2. Wonderful pastel studies of horses on charcoal paper, by British artist Leslie Charlotte Benenson (1941-2018). Notes from the artist are at the bottom of each drawing with dates, the horses names and its parentage. With a remarkable eye for detail and a profound understanding of equine conformation, she captures each horse’s character, posture and vibrancy, translating a pastel rendition beautifully onto the charcoal paper. Benenson exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in London. She was also one of the founder members of the Society of Equestrian Arts.   3. Lest we forget 🌺 This is my great uncle Tommy with his British army issued Norton motorcycle. He was a Chindit. The Chindits were British Empire troops who carried out guerrilla-style operations deep behind the enemy’s lines in Burma. Their mission was to disrupt and confuse the Japanese by raiding lines of communication, blowing up bridges and railway tracks and blocking supply routes. My uncle was a dispatch rider, a vital role in the war effort. He would deliver sensitive and classified information between military units. He would ride through war zones on his motorcycle completely exposed and unprotected, whilst coming under enemy fire. He faced unimaginable danger. Through the valiant efforts of every day young people, like my uncle, they were successful in their mission and we were gifted freedom. Uncle Tommy survived, came home to Britain and never spoke of his war experience. Like many tens of thousands of military who have experienced such unprecedented violence, I have no doubt he suffered shell shock. Today we have an acronym for it - PTSD. “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.” - John F. The most satisfying part of this for me is how in line all the chairs are and how uniform the spacing of things are.😂⁠ Its always nice when we arrive to photograph details and we don't have to straighten things. That's part of why a couple years ago I decided I personally (not my associate team) will only take on weddings with wedding planners. It makes our job easier and we can work more efficiently because we can focus on our job and not helping everyone else with theirs. While we are MORE THAN HAPPY to help, it does take a whole team to execute a flawless event, if we spend too much time helping others we just are not spending the time we should be on taking the photos.   3. We were recently in the Bahamas for 2 weeks. The water was so clear. And it was SO shallow for so far, I really didn't have to worry about the kids too much since it was knee deep on them for as far as they were comfortable going!⁠ That second last photo is me and both kids, just floating, I didn't photoshop anybody out of that photo either, thats just the clear water and how gorgeous it was IRL. Except I did make it more blue looking, because with the sand and how clear it was it looked kind of green when I edited it so I did make it more blue haha. But thats all I did to it!
