Located at the base of the BLVD Beltline building, Otie is a NEW bakehouse/café by the uber-talented @dramonr (who btw also just opened @pizzaletty, a fantastic pizza & seasonal small plates concept next door at the same time!!!). I love EVERYTHING about this place - the vibe, the decor, and of course, their game changing desserts and pastries! If you've ever had Chef Daniel Ramon's pastries and desserts previously during his time with the Teatro Group, you'll know that they are definitely next level! His quest for perfection and his passion for dough is evident in each and every one of the pastries and desserts at Otie. He's a master at laminated dough and his pastries are without a doubt some of the best in town! 💯 In particular, you NEED to try his Cacio e Pepe Croissant!!! 🤯 I was instantly obsessed after the first bite. The visually stunning desserts by his pastry team led by @mariangeles1983 taste incredible and are unlike anything I've had here in YYC! I love the contrasting textures and perfectly balanced complex flavors of each dessert. My personal favorites from their dessert lineup include the Pina Colada Tart, the Blueberry Lemon Pavlova, Raspberry Pistachio Choux, and the Lemon Meringue Tart - with each one being their own unique masterpiece. In addition to the pastries and desserts which are the absolute standouts at Otie, don't overlook their tasty sandwiches like the Chipotle Chicken Melt or Calabrese Cold Cut, which are all made with @dramonr's crispy focaccia bread! It's a place I almost don't want to tell anyone about 🤫, (for fear they'll get so busy that I may never get into this spot again.)   3. we paid for our first dinner on vacation and it was $200usd and I said hell no. I emailed the resort and asked if they were willing to barter food for content and they said yes. it never hurts to ask 🤷🏽‍♀️. this was a giant hotel brand . I don’t have a zillion followers but my reach and engagement is bomb so I just ask for whatever I want now. Worst case scenario they say no and I make my husband pay for the dinner bill. life least works out in the end 🫶🏾

  2. Halal Breakfast in Calgary now available at Taste of Yemen 😮‍💨 We tried quite a few things on their menu everything was great! A mix of western and Arabic menu item which was nice to see. They have crepes and waffles too if that’s your thing 🧇🥞 🍳 Royal Egg Muffin ($23) - you can get this with smoked turkey or smoked salmon! 🥐 Taste of Yemen Halloumi Croissant ($23) - if you like pesto this is for you! Grilled halloumi is heavy so this will get you full fast. 🧀cheese manakish ($12) - a great starter on of my favorites 🥗Seven spice salad ($25) - this is definitely their take on breakfast bowl with eggs, sausage and hollandaise sauce. 🫓 Arabic breakfast ($21.50) - perfect for sharing. My first time having ful (slow cooked fava bean stew) with fresh baked Yemeni bread - I really liked it!   2. I call this my healthy ☁️DESSERT FLUFF☁️ because it tastes like a fluffy greek yogurt cheesecake mousse. NO BAKING REQUIRED, no sugar, gluten, or weird additives. I made this one up, and I now have multiple variations. Today I’m going to share the basic vanilla recipe. By the way, my house guests loved this! It is the perfect summer recipe and pairs so well with fresh berries, or even some dark chocolate shavings on top. #glutenfreesugarfree #healthydessert I’ve used this as a fruit dip, as a cake topping and simply just a dessert on its own. I am working on perfecting my DAIRY-FREE variety so don’t you worry! I know most expert bakers would suggest whipping the cream separately, but I wanted to try an all in one recipe using just one mixing bowl. The results were PERFECT and it’s a very simple clean up too. Although this doesn’t last long, it does keep well in the fridge for a few days. You may notice the texture changes a little but sometimes I find it tastes even better the next day. So do you do you make it? All you need to do is gather equal parts of: -Full Fat Plain Greek Yogurt -Whipping Cream -Cream Cheese, softened * *if you prefer a thick texture, or you are a mega cheesecake fan, you can use more cream cheese. For example: 1.5 cups cream cheese, 1 cup greek yogurt, 1 cup whipping cream I usually start with a brick of cream cheese and use that as my initial measurement and measure an equal part of both yogurt and whipping cream. Using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese until it is creamy. Add the greek yogurt and beat the mixture together for about 30 seconds. Slowly add the whipping cream and continue to mix everything until the texture changes from smooth to fluffy. This took about two minutes with my standing mixer. The last two ingredients are 1 tsp of vanilla (or more) and your sweetener of choice. I suggest powdered sweeteners instead of granulated (monk fruit powder or allulose). Start with ¼ cup and increase as needed to taste. Store in the fridge!   3. 🔥Are you looking for a different way to use ground beef? TRY THIS CRISPY BEEF! This technique involves extending the cooking process for a few minutes and getting that nice crispy texture on the exterior (basically the same idea as making crispy bacon). I know several people who struggle to consume beef unless it’s well-done. Personally, I don’t like to overcook my beef on a regular basis, but sometimes it’s nice to have a change. Use a ground beef masher for best results. If you haven’t used one of these before, I think you may agree that the $10 investment is worth it! I’ve tried mini kitchen gadgets before and this is definitely in my top 10. It ensures the beef is evenly cooked and separates it with minimal effort. There are a lot of ways that you can use this beef and I will share a recipe this week to give you some inspiration. Once it is to the crisp texture of your liking, you can add any seasoning or sauce that you desire. A simple sprinkle of salt and pepper is perfect, or you can make it a bit saucy. For maximum nutritional benefits you can use grass-fed beef like I did here.   1. Ever since one of my good friends got a permanent bracelet, I’ve wanted one for myself. I think they’re so dainty and cute, plus they add a little razzle dazzle to any outfit ✨. The problem was that she got hers in Vancouver and I wasn’t going there anytime soon 😅. A couple of months ago I stumbled upon @permanentbeautyboutiqueyyc and I saw she was going to be offering permanent jewellery, so I had to jump on that ASAP. I had my appointment during Christmas break and I had the most amazing experience with Alana!
