I joined @justiceforallcanada this morning at a press conference on the Hill to speak truth to power, holding our government and media groups responsible for their tactless and dehumanizing stance towards the horrific events that have unfolded before our eyes in Gaza. Their harmful actions have not only leeched onto our soil, leading to a rise of anti-Palestinian sentiment across the nation, which underscores all the values and principles Canada claims to uphold, but is allowing Israel to continue to act with impunity in its genocidal campaign of expulsion against Gaza, and all Palestinians. As I said, by being complacent, Canada is complicit in Israel’s crimes. For all that my family and countless families have sacrificed in making Canada our home, we refuse to be silent. We demand an immediate cease fire. We demand a humanitarian corridor be opened for Gaza. We demand that Canada halts any further armament sales to Israel. We demand Israel be tried for its illegal subjugation of war crimes against the Palestinian people. We demand the liberation of Palestine. Forgive me if I’ve fallen short in any capacity during my statement, I am no politician nor a public speaker, just heart broken, still carrying a lot of fresh grief and hopelessly sleep deprived, but I tried my best to speak from the heart. Today at Parliament Hill, represented by Hameed Law, a group of private lawyers, Canadian legal organizations and civil society groups, and in consultation with the Legal Centre for Palestine, I was joined by a group of fellow Palestinian Canadians whose loved ones have been killed, maimed and displaced by Israel in the last 46 days, to present an official Notice of Intention to Prosecute Canadian governmental and military officials for aiding and abetting war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian Territories. As a Palestinian Canadian, my dual identities have somehow become a contradiction. As one seeks liberation, dignity, and human rights, the other justifies and defends war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and illegal occupation. For 46 days our elected officials have refused to confront the uncomfortable reality that their inaction has only served to discredit them from the eyes of Canadians and the world entire, as they bear witness to the hundreds of thousands of Canadians from coast to coast to coast come together, day after day, organizing and mobilizing and imploring them to call for a ceasefire, as a start. Instead we are met with empty words of skewed neutrality, favouring and justifying Israel’s horrific breaches of international human rights laws and UN conventions. Are these the depraved morals entrenched in the alliances our officials ‘proudly’ continue to associate Canada with? Our government is not above the law, nor is our government immune to being held accountable. This notice of intent to prosecute our government officials, similar to the one filed by the ICJP just a week ago, is one of the many actions taking place across the country as Canadians expend very right and civil liberty to bring about justice for the Palestinians. This was part of my testimony from today’s presser.

  2. ✨PERSONAL NEWS✨ It’s hard to put into words how excited I am for this next chapter of my life. It’s been a dream of mine to host a morning show since I started in this industry, and to be able to come back to my home town of Ottawa to do it makes it truly special. I’m coming up on my 10-year anniversary with Bell Media and CTV, and to have that come full circle to the place I started my career is a little surreal. I’ve always stuck by the work ethic instilled in me by my family, as well as staying true to my authentic self both on and off air, so it feels amazing to have this opportunity. It is bittersweet since I’ve called KW my home for more than three years and worked with some of the best in the business and felt the love of the community. Being able to work with so many charities and events and highlight all the wonderful sites in the region has been the most rewarding feeling. BUT.. to be able to call my mom and tell her I’m coming home for my dream job is a fulfilling moment. My final show will be on Thursday June 5th. See you soon Ottawa ✌️

  2. Today was a fairytale. 💛 Fun fact: Ryan Reynolds and I have followed each other on Twitter for years. Even cooler than that, is when I sent him a pic of Nash’s custom “Deadpool” radiation mask, he replied that he wanted to come meet him in Boston. We kept it a total surprise for Nash. Ryan arrived with the coolest signed memorabilia, chatted with him for over an hour and they even FaceTimed Hugh Jackman! 😂 He gave this visit Maximum Effort.   3. 2024 you were not kind to our family. Receiving the diagnosis that your little child has cancer is a depth of despair we never could have imagined. Our days were instantly filled with scans, chemo, radiation, rashes, medications, fevers, illness and angst. Days turned into months and the light at the end of the tunnel still seems unreachable. In searching for that light though, we’ve found so much love and support. We found days to smile. We found ways to be resilient when we had no other choice. 2024 you were not kind, but there was much kindness to be found in the darkness.
