Do we do things differently than traditional companies? Absolutely, unfortunately the ‘establishment’ of the financial services industry has failed families for way to long.   3. Think your metabolism is broken? Think again. Metabolic adaptation is our body’s way of closing the energy gap we’re trying to create when we reduce calories. It is a perfectly natural process developed through our evolution to help us survive periods of famine. To lose weight, we need the amount of calories burned on average per day to be more than the calories we consume (a negative energy balance or calorie deficit). The things that contribute to the “calories burned” side are Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT), Exercise Activity (EA), Thermic Effect of Food (TEF), and your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). The body is really good at adjusting metabolic processes to close this gap. It does that by: ➡️ Becoming more efficient at deriving/absorbing nutrients/calories from the food we’re eating ➡️ Subconsciously decreasing our NEAT - we fidget less, blink slower, stop tapping along to music, etc. ➡️ Becoming more efficient at exercising. You get better at it, it costs you less energy to do it. ➡️ Hormonal changes that lead to increased feelings of hunger and decreased feelings of satiety (neuropeptide Y, leptin, insulin all go down, ghrelin goes up) ➡️ Hormones that stimulate metabolic rate like thyroid hormones also decrease There are things we can do while in a fat loss phase to counteract this adaptation, they include: ➡️ Taking diet breaks (a 1-2 week return to maintenance calories during a fat loss phase) ➡️ Having a step goal ➡️ Eating a high protein diet ➡️ Not cutting calories too aggressively Metabolic adaptation is the main reason we need to diet safely and smartly. For most people, this adaptation is reversible and this is encouraging from a health and continued progression standpoint. #poweryourpotential

To everyone in Calgary who made coming back to Canada a soft landing for our three - you flew them across the world, you drove them to soccer, you cheered for them at basketball, you took them on the road for tennis tournaments, you delivered them cookies, you left dinner at the door, you threw birthday parties, drove them home from parties, you checked on them, you sent us photos, you had them move into your homes for weekends and weeks, you took them to movies, and dentists, and orthodontists, and you hugged them whenever you saw them… we can’t wait to see you all and hug you and thank you in person. And to our three who have been so well cared for in our absence, we can’t wait to get back to the very best thing in the world, the taking care of you! #cominghome

  2. Opportunities to find your strength are the moments when you feel the weakest… I don’t want to share too much right now as my family is still maneuvering through a crisis. But to my dear friends and wonderful people I train back home, I wanted to let you know that I am not back because my husband, Sebastian, suffered a major medical emergency while we were here visiting his family in Argentina. He is winning the fight, but it has been a fight. I’ll share more another time, or maybe I won’t. In the past I’ve found some strength in difficult times by being open on this platform. We don’t need anything but will accept your prayers, hopes, and positive thoughts gladly. We have been incredibly well supported by family and friends here and also remotely by family and friends back home. We feel surrounded, north to south, by love.

What happened was incredibly rare and it would be easy to be full of anger and bitterness about how unlucky this was, but from the time he was finally accurately diagnosed, admitted, and operated on, to this moment, feeding tubes out and healing underway in the hospital, it’s impossible to ignore how lucky we have been. This story could have had a different ending many times over. Together we are trying to lean heavily into seeing the luck, the blessings, and the positive notes. This has been rough, and it’s hard to see the bright side, but I know it’s there. The plan is to be released from hospital tomorrow. The next phase will be figuring out when he’s safe to travel home… #healing
