I was scared to do this photo shoot because I was fearful people would say or think things like, “isn’t she too old for this?” “Does she think she’s a model?” “She shouldn’t take photos like that- she’s a mom.” Sometimes I wonder what life would look like if we genuinely didn’t care about how other people perceive us or what they may or may not say about us.   2. I don’t have much new work to share with you these days. Well, actually I do — I currently have 5 photoshoots and one music video that are all awaiting release (but soooon, patience is a virtue in the music industry hehe 🤗) Anyway, here’s one of my fave shoots from 2020, taken almost exactly one year ago!   1. It’s come to the point where I feel so isolated because of my experience working on a covid unit. I buried it because everyone had something to say but no ears to listen or empathize. This is reality. Typical days for me looked like this: 2-3 patients being on optiflow and a non rebreather at max oxygen. Walking into their rooms only to see them continually desaturating. Talking to docs and them saying we don’t have room for them in the ICU. I’ll never forget this day: I walked into one patients room, we were all sure he was going to pull through. Older gentleman but overall healthy. He looks at me and says “what’s it like to die... does it hurt?” ... my heart sunk, no one taught us what to say in nursing school. How did I comfort him? We conversed about it, he assured me he didn’t feel like he was dying, that he was only curious. Later, I went in to his room, for him to tell me he couldn’t fight anymore. I sat with him as he said goodbye to his wife and daughter over FaceTime. FACTIME. His daughter said “you were the best dad ever” to which he replied “you are the best daughter ever. I couldn’t be more proud of you”. Could you imagine saying goodbye to your dad over a FaceTime call? I held back tears as I held his hand through a glove and gown. We took him off the oxygen, I gave him medication to help with any pain he may experience. I sat with him while he took his last breath. For days prior to this he told us how lucky he was that we were his nurses. That we had become like family to him. I won’t lie, I went into the washroom and cried, wiped my tears, and went to see my next patient. We bagged his body. A lot of people don’t realize, that’s the nurses job to do. Full circle, from the time you come in to the time you leave the unit, we do it all. Let me tell you, bagging a body never feels okay. Especially when you’ve put everything into keeping them alive—> I went into my last patients room to tell her “we’d see how she did during the night”. Aka there’s nothing left we can do at this point. She looked at me and asked if she could see her family one last time. She knew. Days like this weren’t uncommon. I don’t know if I can do this a forth time.

  3. Day dreaming 💭 I used to dream of the day of being where I’m at. To be completely honest I never thought I’d actually ever be here. I always thought it was out of reach. It has me thinking, what are my future dream moments... what are yours? Lately mine have been the day I get my first travel nurse assignment, when I pay my student loans off, road tripping through the west coast.
