  1. [Long caption on Facebook] “Licensed doctor na po ako Daddy, Ingkong, Lolo, and Ayi (my lola). (2025) Two weeks before the boards, Ayi passed away due to complications of Parkinsons. Her last words despite dementia “magreview ka nang maigi para may doktor na ako” 😭 (2022) I was in my first month of clerkship when my lolo’s colon cancer battle came to an end. (2021) It was my first Internal Med lecture and the topic was cardiology when my Daddy succumbed to heart attack. (2020) It was my first set of final exams when my ingkong left due to prostate cancer. Those tough moments were vivid, I could not absent myself in duties, always bringing me to the question, is this the kind of life I want to have, not being able to heal myself and be with the family even in their final days? But remembering their smiles, seeing how proud they were already, it kept me going. I was torn to leave all the burden to my mom but she, together with my titos and titas supported me all throughout. To my cousins, who provided endless laughs, and kept me sane, may panlibre na ako soon Also, I would not be able to survive medschool without (the chismis eme) Jaye, Dave, Meg, Seal, Angela, Kathleen, Katrina and Lean To my OG dakterz, Oliver, Rovi, Ruth, Alpha, Hazel, EJ, Cora and Ann, if I were to choose my groupmates, family rather, it would always be you, you proved that no matter how toxic it is, we could still eat and go to elyu To my friends who adjusted outings for me to join even though I’ll sleep in the venue, excited na ako sa bonding na walang iPad To my sisses, Gem, Irish, and Jireh, thank you for being vulnerable, to see that it’s not just me who’s breaking down, it kept me in pace, calm and confidently beautiful with a heart to take exams. To Lance, the one who always believed since Day 1, I thought that I could praise you no more. Thank you for being my alarm clock, making me laugh, and making me feel that I’m still human despite the anxiety. To my mom, and sisters, Lei and Iya, I wouldn’t be brave without you. I love you with all my heart. You are my biggest whys. Hope we made Daddy proud Thank you for the guidance, Lord! CZARLYN MARIS CAYABYAB ADENA, M.D.
