The tangy heat from the kimchi blends perfectly with the sour tamarind, creating a broth that’s rich, deep, and packed with umami. Instead of just mixing it in, I grilled the kimchi along with the pork bones and veggies to bring out even more flavor. Not your lola’s sinigang, but I think she’d approve. Would you try this Filipino-Korean fusion? 🍜🔥👇 INGREDIENTS Broth: - ½ kg grilled pork bones - 1 grilled onion, halved - 6 cups water - 2 tbsp gochujang - 4 tbsp tamarind paste (or more if you Iike it more sour) - ½ cup kimchi brine - 2 tbsp fish sauce - 2 bouillon cubes (beef or pork) Pork Belly Marinade: - 2 tbsp gochujang - 2 tbsp soy sauce Grilled Vegetables: - String beans, eggplant, bok choy, okra, tomatoes, kimchi - Optional: Kangkong INSTRUCTIONS 1️⃣ Broth: Grill pork bones and onion. Simmer with water, gochujang, tamarind, kimchi liquid, fish sauce, and bouillon cubes. Slow cook for 2-3 hours or pressure cook for 30 minutes. Strain broth. 2️⃣ Pork Belly: Marinate in gochujang, soy sauce, and mirin for 30 mins. Grill until caramelized, then slice. 3️⃣ Vegetables: Grill all veggies except kangkong. 4️⃣ Final Cooking: Boil strained broth, add grilled vegetables and kangkong, and simmer for 2-3 minutes. 5️⃣ Serve: Ladle broth over rice, top with grilled pork belly and kimchi.

Most people overlook them for soups, but they’re rich and fatty. Perfect for sisig. Fry them low and slow and they render in their own fat, turning insanely crispy, almost like pork chicharon. That natural oil gives it a crunch that lasts. It’s got the same richness as pork sisig, but lighter, not fishy, and full of umami. I did with a Japanese twist (Kewpie mayo, Japanese soy sauce, spring onions) and served it with rice, furikake, and nori, but honestly, it’s so good on its own. We were called to our first family reset meeting last year and it worked so well, so we brought it back again — and booked a space to order a hearty spread to feul up for 2026. 🎇 In the past years, I’ve witnessed my husband be incredible at goal-setting and year-planning at work, and one day he said to me: why not do this for his most important unit? Turns out, it works even better at home. ✨ For those who asked, he creates points of reflections a week before with a short outline to get our holidaze brain moving; Best and worst of the year. What held us back. What we learned. Hopes, plans, dream trips, things we could’ve done better. He suggests making a vision board or speech, but there are no rules on how we choose to share. The kids get so into it! This year, we also learned that being specific matters. Smaller, clearer goals make the bigger ones feel more possible. Such a meaningful night, and I’m really glad I documented it this time.

  2. Wildflour Cafe is a flavor paradise! From the first bite of their Classic Caesar Salad, I knew I was in for a treat. This wasn’t just any Caesar Salad – they used real anchovies, which gave it this amazing salty, umami punch that I absolutely loved. And the fried egg on top? Perfectly cooked, with a runny yolk that added richness to every bite. The creamy, tangy dressing and crunchy croutons were also spot on. It was a refreshing and exciting start to the meal. Then came the Bucatini and Meatballs. The pasta was cooked just right, and the meatballs were incredibly tender and flavorful. The tomato sauce was rich and delicious, making the whole dish a warm and comforting hug in a bowl. But the real star of the show was the Braised Beef with Mushroom Risotto. The beef was so tender it practically melted in my mouth! It was incredibly juicy and full of flavor. And the risotto? Creamy, dreamy, and the mushrooms added such a lovely earthy taste that went perfectly with the beef. It was a truly amazing combination.
