  3. #flashbackfriday 10 years ago today I collected my very first brand new car, a 7R 3 door manual, Prets, DCC, leather, rear camera. Let’s just say the experience is best forgotten due to sloppiness at the factory that was compounded by the supplying dealer which seemed to kick start the greying of my hair 👨‍🦳Once over these hurdles (one of which was being the unofficial Lapiz blue durability tester) I took it abroad 3 times in 7 months driving as far as Bolzano in Italy with bike in back and pretty much got my money back when I sold it in April 2015 taking a Porsche Cayman S in px (even though VW UK appeared to undermine used values with crazyleasedeals™️which rumour has it were due to someone erroneously at MK adding an extra zero to the UK allocation request….🤐)This review in VW Driver mag was a scoop as it was actually the first UK test drive to make it into print. The first press cars were rushed out on a 63 reg but we still beat them. VW retailers didn’t expect the 7R to sell well as 6R didn’t but many quickly swapped their demo car orders to R from GTI to satisfy demand for test drives, a result of sensible pricing, remember that….?). Last time I saw it, it was pre-COVID when it looked modified and a bit sorry for itself. Oh well, should have bought a GTI PP or Cupra 280 in the first place 🤷🏼‍♂️ #golfr #vw #volkswagen #mk7golfr #golf7r #newcarday
