  1. Something I didn't expect to change when I had my accident was how I would be treated differently by *some* Drs. It's spinal cord injury awareness month so I thought I would talk about it, and about something that happened. After I was discharged for the 5th time with gangrene and told I was fine (I wasn't, I had a PE that was missed). A while later, I was having a lovely day thinking everything was good, then opened a letter from a Dr to my GP saying the next step was major limb (leg) amputation. I heard nothing for weeks. Waiting for an appointment with this Dr. When I finally got to see him, he said 👇 'What are you doing here? I thought I discharged you?' Er, you wrote me a letter saying the next step is to have my leg amputated? I've been worried 'I don't remember that' 'Maybe the computer sent that letter by mistake' (Fully signed letter) 'Well I don't think you'll need it amputating. It looks like it's calmed down now' I told him I was pretty disappointed and said I don't think I would have been treated that way if I could still walk. 1) I don't believe I would have been discharged with gangrene and told I was fine. Which would have avoided a life threatening PE and my rubbish breathing now. 2) I would not have recieved a letter telling me that I might need my leg amputated so casually, (never been mentioned). It would have been dealt with sensitively in person, I would hope! Or at the minimum a telephone follow up. To which he replied, 'I suppose an amputation would still be a big deal even if you can't use your legs' 🫠 🤷‍♀️ Yes. My legs, although they're not too good at walking anymore, they're still pretty handy for transfers, balance etc. And yes it's a big deal! It's my bloody leg and it's a major op! He apologised. Which I was grateful for. I was proud, because I wouldn't normally speak up. I have had wonderful encounters with most Drs, and found many to go the extra mile. But some have definitely treated me differently, dismissing symptoms, blaming it on being in a chair. And v quick to suggest removing hips and legs! Because I can't 'use' them. Don't be afraid to speak up🫶 I see the same Dr tomorrow for a followup 😬🤞

  2. Yesterday was mental health awareness day. I didn’t want to post, only because for me its so much more than that. It’s daily. I have struggled in my life with so much darkness, I resented it, but have come to realise the darkness is also my friend. One that teaches me so much. I am so grateful for the little routines I have implemented to save myself when I feel I am falling. Awareness of those signs that the ground is slipping out from under me so I find that time for stillness and kindness. We aren’t encouraged enough as women to be mindful and stop. We are meant to be these powerhouses. The one that has it all. The one that smashed out her goals. The one who’s hungry for more. The one that doesn’t need rest. The one that continues no matter what the struggle. The GOOD women. Fuck no! Fuck NO! I always take time for me. People always comment how busy I am. Yes I am but I sure as hell make time for me. The dip in the ocean, meditation, journaling, yin practice, the coffee in bed and so on. Those are my anchor, the lifeline for I everything else I can do. Without the stillness I will be lost into the abyss of the dark. We have to meet are selves in all our good and bad glory to know what we need. Saying no to the stuff that doesn’t actually help us, that lowers our vibration. Setting boundaries to create my safe space has been everything this last couple of months. This clip is taken from me going for a 6.30am dip, I was laying watching the moon still in the sky, telling her my gratitude out loud (being my full weird self comes out in the sea where no one can hear me!!) then the most beautiful geese flew down so low to my face, it was magic. Then just over the shore line I saw my partner coming to find me. He was sleeping when I left. He swam out, we watched the sun come up and held each other in silence. A core memory was made. A safe place i breathe into in my meditations, a joy so huge from something so small is the key. If I could tell the version of me that didn’t want to live 10 years ago how lucky I feel right now she wouldn’t believe me. I honour her with all my love because she was fucking epic. She was my warrior. She was the light 💛 #mentalhealth
