  2. Tonight son No1 is coming back from University and I'll have my full crew of shipmates again for the festive season. I'm planning on being a lot less anxious than I was last year, when I knew that the biggest , and indeed only ever major secret I had from the boys was going to be revealed over New Year, and that they were going to discover that their mother was going to be appearing on @bbc's The Traitors. I was petrified about how they were going to react, how the show was going to be received, but most of all how they would feel about it. Yes my dyslexia got the better of me and I misread Roman numerals, yes I believed that the @bbc had buried @leon.jackman_ alive, yes I got a lot wrong, cried a lot, but gained another son in @freddiefraserr and hung above the Highlands with @alexanderdragonetti. My eldest posted this first slide the night of the final with just the caption of #Proud , which was enough for me, having lost the biggest game show in front of them. None of us knew how popular the show would be, and that as they scrolled they'd strangely see memes of their 'mother'. It has been an extraordinary year filled with weird and wonderful experiences for both me and them. They've seen me doll up, fight over a handbag on Mother's day in @johnlewis, chat homeware and carve pumpkins on @thismorning, discuss my Cluedo outfits, prance on red carpets, have photo/film crews in the house , and even decorate for Christmas in September! I am so incredibly proud of how they have taken this year in their stride, and how we just tick along in our same old ways, albeit a little busier and me in more make up. They have always been my motivation and inspiration. And never more so than now. My youngest said the penultimate week of the show, when seeing a teaser of a screaming woman hanging from a helicopter. "Is that you mum, hanging from the helicopter? " "As if " I replied ".. I don't even go in the teacups at the fairground, as if I'd hang from a helicopter?! " There was a pause.. "But, you'd do it for us" he said. He was not wrong. 💛 .   3. 17 years ago I left my home town of London and we headed to the seaside , I was 28 , with two boys under 2 , a rescue dog called Freud, and knew no one there , and nothing of the coast. A year later I became a single mum, all my friends told me to come back to London, and despite having no job , only a couple of new friends, and to be quite honest no idea what I was going to do- I decided to stay. I would drive to the beach with the boys and Freud, and stare out to sea while they played in the sand and ate soggy sandy biscuits and dog barked indiscriminately at the seagulls. I figured this was a better life and what I could offer back in 'the smoke' . It was at times very lonely and isolating, but yet also very liberating. The sea is a force that despite its great and fierce expanse , is equally very calming and comforting. There were times we got stuck in the sinking sand, or the wind was so strong that the sand felt like gravel in our eyes , but there are also picnics on the beach after school, boat trips, beach parties and numerous surfing attempts. My eldest is coming home today after completing his first year at uni (on the other side of the country) , and walking along the beach today I realised that I really have been here a long time, (much longer that I thought I would) and so much has happened... and yet the sea, despite the many seasons of life, is just the same. On the walk we stumbled upon the most perfect miniature scallop shell. Many see the scallop shell has as an emblematic symbol of pilgrimage, and also a symbol of rebirth, a metaphor of leaving the old life behind and embarking on a new journey. Funny that. . #coastalliving #thesea #beach #life

When the lovely girls at Rust oleum got in touch about their new chalky wall paints, I knew this room would be in trouble. Swipe to the end for the before...slight transformation, I think you’ll agree! This room has been a complete DIY job my me, There’s not one inch that I have not done something to, from plastering the walls, panelling, painting, installing beams and of course laying that dream floor! It also includes all my favourite eBay purchases that I made in the summer of lockdown 2020. The curved sofa of dreams has been upholstered in a vintage wool mohair and I’ve added a curved base to enhance its form, the dining table has been plastered with marmarino and one of my most recent finds- the vintage marble coffee table from the 70s completed the room to perfection. @makeitrustoleum chalky wall paints are the perfect backdrop, I chose ‘Antique White’ and it’s my new favourite shade, I also repainted the crittal inspired patio doors in their ‘charcoal black’ and the finish is beautiful! There’s so much to talk about in this room so my blog post will be going live on my new website tomorrow evening, you’ll be able to find the process and all the finer details on there, but for now, I hope you love what I’ve done and thank you all for your encouragement over the past few weeks! 🤍🤍🤍 Paint: antique white @makeitrustoleum Parquet floor: @quickstepfloors creamy beige oak.   3. On the list of COMPLETELY essential and COMPLETELY insane pre-move jobs is digging out our climbing frame….. I got it for ten quid off Facebook a few years ago and then painted it last summer. The kids adore it, I adore it, Mr @iainbroome is indifferent. But it IS coming with us. So I need to dig it out, chip off all of the old concrete and then re-fill the gert big hole it will leave in the garden. When I told the new owners I was taking it with us they were also indifferent 🤣 it appears not everyone views a vintage rainbow climbing frame of joy as a must have in this day and age…… it’s more than a climbing frame to me though, it’s a bit of art in our outside space, a burst of colour, a sculpture. I dream of an enormous wild wooded garden one day with sculptures scattered around and hidden in amongst the trees.
