  3. This week, during NAIDOC week ‘24, I wore brown tights and pointe shoes matched to my skin tone. Traditionally ballet dancers wear pink tights to give the illusion of bare legs. I’ve worn them my whole ballet career. It’s been an honour, albeit a little daunting, to debut a shade that matches my skin tone in recognition of the diversity within the Australian Ballet and across Australia. As empowering as it is for me personally, my biggest hope in taking this step is that baby ballerinas of all colours and backgrounds might just see a little bit of themselves on stage and dream even bigger.
