  1. IMPORTANT: this does NOT mean we are helpless and can’t change it. Infact the opposite. This is epigenetics - and epigenetics responds to lifestyle factors! Diet and exercise and low stress. There’s a scientist in Pune who has spent decades on this exact question. Dr. Chittaranjan Yajnik. And his research changed how I think about my own body. In 2003 he compared Indian newborns to UK newborns. Same birth weight. But Indian babies had thinner limbs and relatively more central fat before their first meal. Before any life choice. Then other researchers took his question further. They studied Indian families living outside India for four and five generations. Different country. Different diet. Different lifestyle. Everything different. Same phenotype. Same distribution. Indian bodies are born with less muscle mass and more central fat. The fix is not to lose fat. It’s to build muscle. More protein at every meal. Strength training over cardio. And before you say dal counts dal alone is not enough protein. I’m sorry. The research says so. Send this to every Indian who thinks cardio will fix the belly. And maybe some protein with that. I cite peer-reviewed research for everything I say here. Always. Sources: 1) Yajnik CS et al. 2003. Neonatal anthropometry: the thin-fat Indian baby. The Pune Maternal Nutrition Study. International Journal of Obesity. PMID: 12586996 2) van Steijn L et al. 2009. Thin-fat phenotype in fourth to fifth generation South Asian neonates in Surinam. International Journal of Obesity. PMID: 19636321 — Wells JC et al. 2019. 2. Other stuff from @robert.sapolsky research I think about constantly… save for your next dinner conversation 1. The man spent 30 years tranquilising wild baboons with a blowgun, drawing their blood at sunrise, and measuring their stress hormones. For three decades. 2. The Forest Troop story. In the 80s, the most aggressive alphas of one of his troops died eating from a tuberculosis contaminated dump. The surviving baboons became peaceful and new males who joined adopted the peaceful culture. He’d accidentally proven that aggression is CULTURAL, not biological. Even in baboons. 3. Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers (his book title explained): zebras face acute stress like lion attacks… and when zebras run and escape, their stress ends. Baboons and humans face chronic social stress. That’s what breaks the body. Not lions. Our overthinking. 4. Being on TOP isn’t always healthier. Alpha baboons in UNSTABLE troops had the highest cortisol of anyone. The king is sometimes the most stressed person in the room. 5. He proved chronic stress can physically SHRINK your hippocampus , your memory center. Groundbreaking. Also terrifying. 6. His Stanford course “Human Behavioural Biology” is on YouTube for free. People watch the whole thing like a TV series. It’s that good. 7. His 2023 book “Determined” argues there is no free will. Every decision you make…including reading this …comes from biology you didn’t choose. He’s serious. 8. He’s an atheist who’s written about why religion REDUCES stress for believers …the predictability of ritual + community structure works as its own cortisol regulator. 9. He won the MacArthur “Genius” grant in 1987 for proving chronic stress damages the brain. He’s been right for decades. See his interviews, he’s cool, funny and doesn’t take himself too seriously. Intelligence doesn’t always come with air and it’s beautiful. ❤️ #psychology #cortisol #mentalhealth #health #neuroscience

  3. A popular nutritionist recently said Indians don’t need more protein. Then ICMR studied 18,090 people across 30 states and published the biggest Indian diet study of our lifetime. The data says the opposite without ifs and buts Here are the other truth bombs from the same study that the reel couldn’t cover: Switching from white rice to multigrain atta makes almost zero difference to your diabetes risk. OR 0.94, statistically indistinguishable from chance. India has been having the wrong conversation for twenty years. The problem isn’t which grain you pick. The problem is that 62% of the average Indian plate is carbohydrate like rice, roti, sugar combined. People with the highest carb intake had 30% higher odds of type 2 diabetes than those with the lowest. Replacing carbs with fat did nothing. Saturated fat actually showed slightly higher diabetes risk (OR 1.06). So much for the ghee-is-medicine crowd. Plant protein alone worked. Dairy alone worked. You do not need animal protein to make this shift. Dal with dahi was one of the strongest combinations Animal protein from red meat and poultry showed no significant benefit (OR 0.99 and 1.03). The protective effect came specifically from plant, dairy, egg, and fish. Indians currently eat 12% of daily calories as protein. ICMR’s own guideline is 15%. That three percentage point gap is the difference between a national diabetes epidemic and not. The benefit kicks in at a smaller swap than you think. Replacing just 5% of daily calories from carbs with protein was enough to lower diabetes odds by up to 20%. One roti less, one extra katori of dal. Whole grains eaten whole …jowar bhakri, ragi mudde, brown rice are a different conversation. The study couldn’t test those properly because too few Indians actually eat them. One honest caveat: this is cross-sectional. It shows association, not proven cause. But 18,090 people across every region of India is the closest we have ever come to a national dietary truth. #indiahealth #health #nutrition #diabetes #protein

  2. . . . . . . . #renjithchittade
