I am 13 years old and this is my daughter. I gave birth to her a month ago. I was raped by a man I had considered my brother. I didn't know I was pregnant until I was five-and-a-half months pregnant. When I told him I was pregnant with his child he got so angry at me. First, he told me, "no it isn't my child" and later he threatened to kill me if I ever told anybody about it. His mother knew everything and yet she chose to be quiet. There was nothing I could do. I could not even tell my parents or anyone about the incident because I was too scared. I know, I was not at fault but I was mortified that if I share it with my family or friends nobody is going to believe it and they will assume it was my fault. I stopped going to school as well. My parents came to know I was pregnant the day of delivery. Soon after that, my parents filed an FIR against him. He is in police custody right now. But here I am trying to live as a child and raise one at the same time”. Maya is one of the millions of adolescent girls around the world who will experience further violence and abuse in her lifetime if she does not get proper psychological and medical assistance immediately. There are two lives and two futures at stake; Maya’s and her daughter’s. Maya also needs to complete her school education. Katha Nepal is supporting Maya by providing psychosocial support, tuition fees, hospital cost for mother-child and clothes and nutritional food for mother-child. We cannot do this alone and we need your help. Your small initiation can make a real difference in Maya's life and may contribute towards a prosperous future for her daughter.   3. “People are always stunned when I say I’m a Nepali. I get stopped at museums and temples and am asked to show an ID proof all the time. Maybe because I don’t fit into the archetypal example of a Nepali face. But then what even is a typical Nepali face? If you’re too fair, you’re kuire, if your face is more on the Mongolian side, people are quick to call you Chinese/chimsey. And all of terai is supposedly Indian looking. So who is a Nepali and what does a Nepali look like? I want people to know that telling someone that they resemble a westerner or don’t look Nepali is NOT a compliment. I want people to know that despite being a tiny country, we’re extremely diverse and so that means we have all kinds of faces and voices. When you look at a Madhesi face, identify it is as a Nepali face. When you look at a Mongolian featured face, do the same. And keep doing that till it’s no longer ok for anyone to question your identity based on how you look..”
