  2. Some things you should consider if you’re considering a polished style: 1) Your artist — this one may seem obvious, but it’s not. A majority of clients don’t have a deep understanding of the beauty industry and might not expect that there are niches within the wedding hair niche. Not all artists have the same eye, the same expertise, or the same aesthetic, so make sure the style you’re looking for is reflected in their portfolio. This actually goes for any style. 2) Your dress — if you’re wearing anything with a high collar, especially lace, keep in mind that any hair that comes into contact with it will eventually come loose from the friction over time, no matter now much hairspray your stylist uses. 3) Hair length and density — contrary to popular belief, fine to medium density hair is ideal for polished styles. Ideal length can vary depending on the goal style, but the more length, the more options there are and the more volume can be achieved in the bun. If you have very thick hair, polished styles are possible, but you have to be realistic about the size of the bun. Those tight little knot buns just aren’t happening when you literally have ALL of the hair. On a similar thread, if you have layers, little pieces can poke out of the style, no matter how many steps your stylist takes. 4) Time — especially if you’re working with a perfectionist (like me), these styles take TIME. The style in this video took me nearly two hours to create. So, if you’re not willing to sit for that long or your schedule won’t allow it, you may need to either consider something else or discuss with your stylist where you can cut some corners (less complicated technique in the crown etc). 5. Your veil — similarly to your dress, anything that doesn’t rubs against your hair for an extended period of time has the potential to create unwanted texture or pull hairs loose from the style. Removing the veil can also be an opportunity for damage to the style. If you won’t have your artist with you to remove the veil after the ceremony, ask them to give a quick tutorial to one or two of your besties to make sure they know how to safely remove it and recover if any issues should arise.

  3. I’m gonna be honest…. This look would not have survived the day on its own. BUT longevity was not the focus of this makeup. ‘Gentle makeup’ is the quiet luxury in bridal beauty. It’s subtle and unassuming. It’s timeless and fresh. It’s high maintenance, not only because of the time, effort, or skill it takes to execute, but the level of thought, care, and preparation required to maintain it. Isabel doesn’t typically wear much makeup and it was really important to her that she looked and felt like herself. So we discussed all of the factors and came up with a plan that prioritized exactly that. We began hair and makeup at 5:30am, and I stayed with her for concierge services until 11:30pm. We scheduled two touch up appointments throughout the day, as well as a look change just before I left. For the look, we focused heavily on skincare and opted to forego foundation, making plump, hydrated skin the hero of this makeup. We also avoided the use of any powder products on the skin — until the evening, when she would be photographed in flash/artificial light, and I wouldn’t be there to touch her up.
