  2. ✨👾💜🍇🌌🔮✨ Color Selection Color, shape, and texture play important roles in creating harmony in a makeup look. In editorial makeup design, I try to create a look that pops on the subject but does not distract from the content as a whole, be it clothing, a hair style jewelry, etc. In this instance, our inspiration was a blown out, glossy lid. So that checks off shape and texture, but what about color? Here are a few tips on how to create a makeup look that adds to the desired effect without being distracting using color theory. 1. Observe the client's skin tone. @vicxen.v has lovely golden-brown skin. Using color theory, we know that purple is the complement to yellow/gold. Purple would be an excellent choice to make our subject's skin glow forward. 2. Observe the look as a whole. How is the hair styled? How does the style frame the face? What is the subject wearing and what color story can we create? Shapewise, @vicxen.v wore her hair up, giving us space emphasize her high cheekbones with a little contour and sweeping the eye look slightly upward. The colors in the outfit selections are yellow-orange, green, and red. Using color theory, purple still reigns as a complement to yellow tones while green, purple and orange create a triadic secondary color scheme. While red is not orange, orange is created with red. I decided to cheat the triadic theme and go with the purple, warming up MAC's Rich Purple airbrush fluid with a little Process Magenta and Pure White to warm and lighten up the purple. 3. Lighting! This shoot was done partially in-studio and partially outdoors. In bright light and natural light, this color stands out. Under gelled lighting, maybe not so much. Communicate with your team to discover goals for the end result before making design selections. What do yall think? Did purple give what needed to be given across all looks?
