  1. Six years ago today, my world looked nothing like it does now. I didn’t even have a phone number in my own name. I was so dependent, so diminished, that something as simple as calling to order a pizza felt terrifying. I was caught in the grip of an emotionally abusive marriage, isolated from friends, without a single family member to lean on. I can still see it clearly, me standing at the door with my two little girls, their tiny hands holding a gift we had pieced together because I had no money to buy one. We waited and waited, hoping he would come home to celebrate. But he didn’t. He was on a birthday trip..with his girlfriend. That moment broke something in me. And yet, it wasn’t the only one. Night after night, I would sit awake by the door, staring at the dark street, convinced something had happened as the hours dragged past midnight into morning. The silence pressed on me like a weight I couldn’t breathe under. Unless you’ve lived in constant panic for years, you cannot truly imagine what it does to your body. Your nervous system burns out. Your hair falls. Your hormones unravel. Your heart lives in fight-or-flight until it can hardly beat steadily anymore. If you read this and it feels like too much.. too dramatic, too raw.. then thank the God you pray to.. Because that means you’ve never had to live it. I told myself over and over, “I can’t leave. My girls deserve more than I could ever give them. He can provide what I can’t.” So I stayed, even when it was killing me inside. But God… God had another plan. One day, he left. He moved in with his girlfriend, and in that moment my chains broke. Relief surged through me, but so did a terror I had never known. I was finally free, but how was I supposed to raise two daughters alone, with no family and no job to fall back on? (Continued in comments)

  3. What I Wish I Knew Then.. When I shared my story recently, I was overwhelmed by how many women, especially mothers, wrote to say, “That’s my story too.” It reminded me that none of us are ever truly alone, even when it feels like the silence is swallowing us whole. Here are three anchors that helped me get through the days, and that became stepping stones God used to lead me out of survival and into freedom. 1. Guard Your Inner Sanctuary When the home around you feels unsafe, protect the one space that no one else can invade, your inner world. For me, that became the quiet moments when I would pray under my breath while folding laundry or whisper Scripture over myself at night. God met me in those hidden places. His Word became a shield: “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust” (Psalm 91:2). Even when I felt powerless, those stolen minutes of prayer reminded me that my spirit was untouchable. Your inner sanctuary may be five minutes of deep breathing, journaling, or simply saying the name of God when you don’t have strength for any other words. Hold that sacred space, it’s where God begins His healing work. (Continued in comments)
