  1. The hardest thing I’ll ever share! Because yes I am embarrassed, sad and angry that I let myself get to this level of self hatred, sadness, anger and size! Totally abusing my body with food, constantly punishing myself for being unhealthy by being even worse!! It’s a vicious cycle and so many can resonate with that! Yes I took a different route for weight loss one which many don’t agree with, but it wasn’t for lack of trying it all, and mentally I just couldn’t do it any longer. So after alot of agonising over this decision I decided to do it! After some research and consultation with @getsliminturkey I finally changed my life! And it’s the best decision I have ever made!   2. It’s the things that go unseen that are hardest. One of the things that comes alongside a spinal cord injury for many people is neuropathic pain. For some, it is consistent, for others intermittent, but the one thing that is common is that it’s difficult to manage and quite debilitating. There are many ways to manage it from medication, rest, breathing techniques, heat exercise, massage therapy. Personally, I don’t use medication as it often makes me drowsy and prefer to lean into the other methods. Over the past few weeks I have had quite a bad flare up of nerve pain. It is draining. It’s often hard to pinpoint the trigger which can be frustrating. Today, the best thing for it was a cycle before work and a walk in the exoskeleton this afternoon. Hot shower, early to bed and deep breathing is the plan for the evening - R&R. We go again tomorrow. Keep showing up 🙏 #spinalcordinjury #pain #rest

  3. You know how the old saying goes "time flies when you're rebuilding your life after a spinal cord injury". Ten years. Hard to believe it, but it really has flown. Ten years ago I had just turned 20. Free. Independent. Healthy. Excited about studying to be a health professional. Fuelling my adventurous side and love of the outdoors instructing water sports in the west of Ireland and working as a lifeguard on the beaches. Day one of a holiday with friends an instant changed my whole way of navigating and interacting with the world. Fracture and dislocation of C5 vertebra diving into water. All changed. Taken out of the water by some of my closest friends. Two weeks in intensive care in Portugal - ventilator dependent. Air ambulance home. Two more weeks in intensive care - ventilator dependent. Two weeks in high dependency - ventilator dependent. Two weeks in spinal unit - ventilator dependent. Seven months in National Rehabilitation Hospital. The continuation of one journey and the beginning of a whole new adventure. Diagnosis: C5/6 Quadriplegia - ASIA A Complete. 15% muscle function- shoulders, biceps, wrists. I had to face the facts, but I chose my response to those uncomfortable truths. Despite the huge curveball I was dealt ten years ago and the many ups and downs between now and then which have mostly remained private I can honestly say the following. I have come a looong way. I am excited about life. I am proud of myself. I love myself and respect myself. I am a work in progress and thats ok. I am grateful for so many aspects of my life. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of family and friends. I am only getting started. September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. Usually I don't share a huge amount, for this month I want to change that with daily posts exploring different elements of my journey thus far and some of my day to day life. Education and Inspiration for your own life, wherever you are on that journey. When I woke from surgery a few weeks back, i got upset because I kept spilling food on myself from not being able to chew properly (they cut through the jaw muscle on the side of my head in surgery) I got upset having to use a zimmer frame to walk too the bathroom, even if it was for a day. I got upset seeing some of my hair fall out from radiotherapy, which they told me to prepare for, but still hits hard. It is only hair, I know it grows back. I debated not even taking my hat off running yesterday, but fuck it that’s the very least of my worries. I got upset seeing my partner, my family and my closest friends, worry and be upset. Life got heavy there for a bit. But as I said in that first reel a few weeks back, 2 important things, don’t feel sorry for me, thank you but fuck that, I’m good. And also, the only way over these things, is through them. All I ever have known, is work, and I just needed to work differently to get through what was realistically, a really traumatic experience for me and those closest to me. Yesterday running the cork half, it wasn’t about a time, it wasn’t for anyone else but for me, to show myself, I can and will get through anything I put my mind too. I stopped a few times when I needed too, I slowed when I needed too and took the pace when it was there (which a few times, backfired rapidly). Things like that make you find out very quickly what your made of. And I want to be the guy who does what he says he’s going too, and do it damn well. I want to be an example, for my friends, family, clients especially for Sinead and Tommy. Best part was having both of them at the finish line ❤️ that, and after hearing the traffic news yesterday of the poor girl who passed, nothing else matters. Thanks to the main man @joehegarty__ For sticking with me, ❤️even if I did hold ya back the first few KMs. Enjoy the quicker time for now, I’ll be back quicker soon 😂.

There are of course a MILLION things I've not mentioned, like putting the backs on the stairs up to the attic so lil baby Bodi doesn't fall through, organising & labelling a million containers and all the boring practical stuff like sorting the electrics and adding sockets. I could go on but god knows I'm bored just listening to myself. Owning a home is genuinely the most stressful thing in the world. I appreciate that we are so so lucky to be here, and we absolutely adore our house but it is a full time job. The list is never ending. Just want to acknowledge that, as the smile at the beginning of this video has since dissappeared 😂 I can't remember the last time I left the house looking presentable without paint or glue on my hands. I know it's all self inflicted but the pressure is genuinely immense. I struggle to show up on here as a result but trying to get over myself and share the good the bad the ugly. Thank God for my dad he has done or helped me on every single project mentioned. Whether coming and doing them for me when I hurt my ankle ,giving advice so I can do them myself or providing some words of motivation about how far we have come. Anyways this wasn't meant to be a ted talk but I guess that happened. Stay tuned to see the rooms we have finished I am super happy with how they've turned out.

After almost eight years, it's time to say goodbye to @vip.magazine (well, technically next week) There have been so many moments that I will never forget: my first red carpet interview with Colin Farrell (@writtenbyvictoriastokes, remember the absolute NERVES!); countless photoshoots with all sorts of people, all over the country, and even in New York; awards ceremonies that led to throwing questionable shapes with the likes of Marty Morrissey in Coppers... Mostly, I'll be forever grateful to this job for introducing me to so many glorious people who have become friends for life. Making a magazine is all about teamwork, and I'll miss my team.   1. This is a day that we dreamt of, but had started to doubt it would ever happen. Feels so surreal to announce that Bahay are stepping into Kaldero on St Stephen’s Green & taking over the space to bring the first Irish-Filipino fully fledged restaurant, under the sole creative and culinary direction of @riggzcastillo, with @axel_z supporting him in bringing his vision for the space & buzz of Kaldero to life. Much love & thanks to the entire kitchen & FOH team who’ve been instrumental in bringing this to life, special mention to Kuya @bnlzda who were so delighted to have onboard to bring this mission to life. Thank you so much to @katymcguinness @independent.ie for coming down to chat about @kalderodublin & the Bahay journey since the release of our book Masarap @blastabooks & us stepping away from the food truck scene as we know it. We’re not here to elevate or repackage the food of The Philippines. We’re here to celebrate it, to honour it as it is. We’re going to be sharing more over the coming days, weeks & months, but for now please read the article in full, available online & nationwide in today’s Irish Independent.   1. Two weeks ago we got the devastating news that our beloved brother had passed tragically. We entered into a ceremony together and have been immersed in ceremony from the new moon two weeks ago until this full moon. We have sung (really out of tune) and danced and drummed and cried and laughed and ate and drank and stayed up late and told stories. We got sad and happy and angry, we went into hope and denial and grieved all in a rollercoaster. We held each other up as a tribe throughout it all. This won't be the last tribe member we do this for. So now we hug each other a little tighter, we tell each other we love each other a little more, we dance a little more and we live a little more. The name David translates as Beloved. We all knew how loved we were by him and he leaves behind a legacy of love ❤️

  3. A Keen for Ireland This has been coming through for a long time and I’m not going to lie I resisted it ever opportunity I could, but it is calling to be acknowledged and the space is needed. This week I visited the tenements in Dublin @14henriettastreet as well as the famine museum (I know wild 😜) and I am overcome by what as a nation we have overcome and the resilience that we have. Colonialism, Famine, War, Poverty, Addiction… Resilient as we are, I wanted to create a space where we can allow the sacred keen to come through for our history, land and for our people. We may think it’s in the past but it’s very much alive in our bodies as Irish bodies. In the way we feel unworthy, in the way we overwork & hustle, in the way we undercharge, in our addictions and alcoholism in so many ways it plays out. In my own body it is very very present. Unfortunately this is not a thing of the past, it is still very alive today. This evening is about acknowledging our past, letting our bodies express themselves so that we can reclaim our power & sovereignty and move forward with pleasure. This is open to men and women/Irish diaspora or really anyone who feels called. It will be 2 hours on the 1st August 7-9pm GMT. There will be an embodied keen, as well as a collective soul retrieval for Ireland. Never been as nervous posting anything, ngl! Couldn't have had a better experience with @hairrestorationblackrock. The doctors, nurses and admin staff are exceptionally talented, sensitive and innovative. I don't think they'll ever understand how much their kindness, competence, professionalism and expertise throughout the whole process meant to me.
