  1. Update from Vicky My sincere apologies for not posting an update sooner for all my followers. My poor Dad, who reads absolutely every single message that comes in, has been getting on to me to put up a post for people to let you all know that I am well.... And so today, I decided that I felt good and it was time to post an update. As you can see from my video update, I am doing really well at the moment. I had my second dose of treatment on Monday (Pembro only) and, apart from feeling tired, I am doing really well. I made the decision to stop chemotherapy after my first dose on October 18. I was horrendously ill for almost two full weeks and I decided that I have had enough of putting my body through torture. At this stage, my treatment is palliative anyway. There is nothing else that can be done medically. And so, I decided that, for me, quality of life is far more important to me now than quantity of life if the extra time that I might get means that I have to go through hell for 2-3 weeks every month. My focus now is on remaining as stable and as well as I am now for Christmas, which is less than 6 weeks away....to be able to do the things that are important with my kids like shopping for clothes with my daughter, going to watch my son's soccer matches, going for pizza at @milanoireland I must give a HUGE shout out to the amazing staff at @milanoireland at the @crescentshoppingcentre in Limerick who paid for our meal on Wednesday. THANK YOU 🙏 I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing staff at the Mid-Western Cancer Centre at University Hospital Limerick where I am now being treated who welcomed me with open arms last Monday. Thank you to Áine, Mairead and porter Christy who really minded me. I really missed that when I was away in America. Finally, a huge big THANK YOU to all of you, my followers, my tribe, for thinking of me, for praying for me, for sending positive energy my way and for worrying about me. I really really appreciate all your messages, comments, cards, gifts, flowers.

  2. Jamie Gill 🤍 it’s hard to believe we live in a time where Jamie is not with us anymore. His love of life and for @niamhcullenx felt bigger than life itself. We worked with Jamie in 98fm & then he came back into our lives when he and Niamh ran the NYC Half Marathon with us in 2023. They bounced into the airport, their energy infectious. Jamie was so proud that morning because Niamh was the Stellar Magazine cover star. We all made such a fuss of her, because she deserved every bit of it. Jamie and Niamh sat behind us on the plane, most of us sticking on our headphones and getting stuck into a movie, but not Jamie and Niamh. They laughed and chatted for the entire 7 1/2 hours over to NY. It was like a first date. They even won the airhostess over, who was definitely giving them VIP treatment and absolutely loved them🤣 Jamie smashed the half marathon, running it in 1hr 45 mins, not that he would ever tell you. Niamh stayed at the back with us, entertaining us all the entire way around the city. But this was the magic of J&N…At one point of the weekend, Niamh climbed up onto the bar and treated everyone in the pub to an Irish dance that I will never forget as long as I live. That was the night we were supposed to get an early night ahead of the race 🤣But those were the moments that you could see just how perfect they were for each other. Jamie would always look at Niamh in awe and he would always let her shine. He was always smiling at her. He let her be her true self, this is the greatest gift you could ever give someone. I’ve wanted to share this story for so long but never wanted to overstep the mark. There’s a lot of people who were a lot closer to Jamie than me, but Jamie made everyone he met feel special. Niamh and Jamie made that weekend for us. At their engagement party I was so blown away by Jamie’s family…. Continued in comments…

  1. The hardest thing I’ll ever share! Because yes I am embarrassed, sad and angry that I let myself get to this level of self hatred, sadness, anger and size! Totally abusing my body with food, constantly punishing myself for being unhealthy by being even worse!! It’s a vicious cycle and so many can resonate with that! Yes I took a different route for weight loss one which many don’t agree with, but it wasn’t for lack of trying it all, and mentally I just couldn’t do it any longer. So after alot of agonising over this decision I decided to do it! After some research and consultation with @getsliminturkey I finally changed my life! And it’s the best decision I have ever made! I’m so grateful for every single day and every day of feeling so much better. And I appreciate everything so much, I’ve always been blessed with what I have I just didn’t see it for a while! “Once you start appreciating life, that’s when you realise how much you truly have to live for” Whilst I always loved being active I now absolutely love it!! Yes I hiked mountains the size I was last year, I never gave up, I used to be 76 shades of purple in the face for gasping 🤣 but I never gave up, I am actually proud of that! But perhaps maybe trying to prove something to others, whereas now I’m only trying to prove things to myself! 🤍 This isn’t a post looking for compliments, this is a post to every single person who struggles with their weight/fitness/confidence that you can take control, you can change things for yourself. You’re worth putting the effort in, you’re worth the work, you’re worth keeping yourself healthy for a long time! “True wealth is having your health and knowledge of self” Benjamin Franklin #lifechanging #healthier #weightloss #buildingconfidence #gastricsleeve #bariatricsurgery #getsliminturkey #fitter #stronger #lovinglife #appreciation

  3. You know how the old saying goes "time flies when you're rebuilding your life after a spinal cord injury". Ten years. Hard to believe it, but it really has flown. Ten years ago I had just turned 20. Free. Independent. Healthy. Excited about studying to be a health professional. Fuelling my adventurous side and love of the outdoors instructing water sports in the west of Ireland and working as a lifeguard on the beaches. Day one of a holiday with friends an instant changed my whole way of navigating and interacting with the world. Fracture and dislocation of C5 vertebra diving into water. All changed. Taken out of the water by some of my closest friends. Two weeks in intensive care in Portugal - ventilator dependent. Air ambulance home. Two more weeks in intensive care - ventilator dependent. Two weeks in high dependency - ventilator dependent. Two weeks in spinal unit - ventilator dependent. Seven months in National Rehabilitation Hospital. The continuation of one journey and the beginning of a whole new adventure. Diagnosis: C5/6 Quadriplegia - ASIA A Complete. 15% muscle function- shoulders, biceps, wrists. I had to face the facts, but I chose my response to those uncomfortable truths. Despite the huge curveball I was dealt ten years ago and the many ups and downs between now and then which have mostly remained private I can honestly say the following. I have come a looong way. I am excited about life. I am proud of myself. I love myself and respect myself. I am a work in progress and thats ok. I am grateful for so many aspects of my life. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of family and friends. I am only getting started. September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. Usually I don't share a huge amount, for this month I want to change that with daily posts exploring different elements of my journey thus far and some of my day to day life. Education and Inspiration for your own life, wherever you are on that journey. I was smiling 10 years ago and I’m still smiling today. #spinalcordinjury #sci #resilience #mindset #healthylifestyle #healing #recovery #journey #challengingperceptions #breakingboundaries

  3. When I woke from surgery a few weeks back, i got upset because I kept spilling food on myself from not being able to chew properly (they cut through the jaw muscle on the side of my head in surgery) I got upset having to use a zimmer frame to walk too the bathroom, even if it was for a day. I got upset seeing some of my hair fall out from radiotherapy, which they told me to prepare for, but still hits hard. It is only hair, I know it grows back. I debated not even taking my hat off running yesterday, but fuck it that’s the very least of my worries. I got upset seeing my partner, my family and my closest friends, worry and be upset. Life got heavy there for a bit. But as I said in that first reel a few weeks back, 2 important things, don’t feel sorry for me, thank you but fuck that, I’m good. And also, the only way over these things, is through them. All I ever have known, is work, and I just needed to work differently to get through what was realistically, a really traumatic experience for me and those closest to me. Yesterday running the cork half, it wasn’t about a time, it wasn’t for anyone else but for me, to show myself, I can and will get through anything I put my mind too. I stopped a few times when I needed too, I slowed when I needed too and took the pace when it was there (which a few times, backfired rapidly). Things like that make you find out very quickly what your made of. And I want to be the guy who does what he says he’s going too, and do it damn well. I want to be an example, for my friends, family, clients especially for Sinead and Tommy. Best part was having both of them at the finish line ❤️ that, and after hearing the traffic news yesterday of the poor girl who passed, nothing else matters. Thanks to the main man @joehegarty__ For sticking with me, ❤️even if I did hold ya back the first few KMs. Enjoy the quicker time for now, I’ll be back quicker soon 😂.

  1. This is a day that we dreamt of, but had started to doubt it would ever happen. Feels so surreal to announce that Bahay are stepping into Kaldero on St Stephen’s Green & taking over the space to bring the first Irish-Filipino fully fledged restaurant, under the sole creative and culinary direction of @riggzcastillo, with @axel_z supporting him in bringing his vision for the space & buzz of Kaldero to life. Much love & thanks to the entire kitchen & FOH team who’ve been instrumental in bringing this to life, special mention to Kuya @bnlzda who were so delighted to have onboard to bring this mission to life. Thank you so much to @katymcguinness @independent.ie for coming down to chat about @kalderodublin & the Bahay journey since the release of our book Masarap @blastabooks & us stepping away from the food truck scene as we know it. We’re not here to elevate or repackage the food of The Philippines. We’re here to celebrate it, to honour it as it is. We’re going to be sharing more over the coming days, weeks & months, but for now please read the article in full, available online & nationwide in today’s Irish Independent. Thank you to everybody who’s made this possible. None of this would be happening without the unwavering support of our friends, family & fellow food industry pals who have helped us every step of the way. To all the people who’ve come to try our food wherever we’ve popped up at, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The idea we have regulars, despite never being in the same place twice, is something we still feel grateful for & think about every day. This restaurant will honour & pay respect to the incredible cuisine of The Philippines with a menu that’s based on regional cooking, and explores the archipelago through the lens of food. Very grateful for the opportunity to get to do this with the full support of the whole team @eclective.group Salamat & go raibh míle mhaith agaibh go léir po 🇵🇭🤝🇮🇪 always ❤️ See you July 2nd x 📷 Monumental thank you to the extraordinary @ruthcalderpotts for these pictures & years of incredible photography, advice & support… these are the first round of photos & we can’t wait to share more soon.
