Ironman World Championships - 21st A day where a dream result was within reach until I realised once again there is a marathon at the end of an Ironman I was completely blown away by the support I received before and after the race. It is such a special feeling. Thank you to my mum for making the trip over, my dad, my family, my friends, my girlfriend, my sponsors and to everyone that gave me a reason to keep going out there. And I think now more than ever is the time to acknowledge the support from someone who believes in me more than I believe in myself. My coach Jean-Christophe (JC) Guinchard @jcsportscoaching I met JC over a zoom call in May last year. I booked a one way flight to go and live with him to have fun in Europe and maybe do a bit of training. In June, he drove me from Switzerland to Luxembourg so I could race my first professional race. Around that time I jokingly told JC I wanted to race at the Ironman World Championships one day. He told me I had the level. I raced my first Ironman in July after a 5 day bender in Paris. Must’ve been the first person to go from passed out on the street in Paris to an Ironman finish within 72 hours. He told me if I applied myself, I could qualify at Ironman Western Australia later in the year. I thought no way. I ended up qualifying. It hasn’t always been easy for them, but I owe a big part of this to JC, Marielle and the whole JC Sports Coaching team. I’ve watched the race highlights of each edition of the Ironman World Championships since the early 2000s more times than I can count, so thank you for everything to get me to a point where I’m lucky enough to even have the opportunity to chase a dream. So while it’s disappointing that a result that could’ve changed my life slipped away, I think I would have made the May 2023 Nick that never believed any of this was even possible proud.
