  1. I invented a Universal Chuck that’s Height Adjustable! It’s week 24 since I started doing pottery and you already know how important a Chuck is but also how annoying it can be to find the right one for your pot! Let me show you how I made this so you can make your own! I made one like this before that wasn’t height adjustable and I needed to figure out a modular way to adjust the height because trimming a tall piece on a tall chuck is difficult because there’s only so much you can do to anchor your arms. So as much as I can I want to be as close down to the wheel head as possible, but if needed I can raise the chuck height! So I’m sharing this with you to enable you to make your own tools and optimize your pottery experience.

  2. It’s week 20 since I started doing pottery and I finally finished my Climbing Monstera Water Fountain! This was my first time hand building anything in my life so please be kind if I’m doing it wrong! Lol 😂 But I’m super happy about the mechanism I invented to get the water from the bottom up to the top of the fountain without having a rubber tube showing (except inside)! I hope it survives the drying process! This was really hard and took so long. Idk if I’ll ever find the patience for something like this again!

  3. A nasty “Master Potter” of 18 years trolled me, let’s create his vase so we can see if we are on his level!? Lolol it’s week 42 since I started doing pottery and I promise this is the last you’ll hear about this clown 🤡 Lmao all Jokes aside! Here’s what I did to grow rapidly in pottery! 1. I had unlimited open studio hours at my studio @oblate.clay and from weeks 1-16 of my journey, I averaged 25-30 hours a week on the wheel! I went everyday after work and on weekends too. Now I only average 6-10 hours a week because that wasn’t sustainable and my body was fatigued so I had to scale back, but by then I had a good solid foundation! 2. I had incredible Instructors and teachers @ascottbeatty and @ds.pottery who taught me both pottery and how to LEARN pottery quickly! 3. I had structured intentional practice doing my cylinder bootcamps multiple days a week: throwing twelve 1lb 6” cylinders multiple days a week. Then 2lbs to 8” then 3lbs to 10” etc. 4. I started studying Korean techniques at week 7 by focusing on the moon jar form! I learned by dissecting their videos online and analyzing their technique and trying to figure it out for myself at the wheel! That really catapulted my large throwing ability. 5. I had an amazing community of kind, generous, helpful, experienced ceramicists around me to support and help me learn! 6. I cut through 95% of my work, analyzed the walls for evenness and thickness and then adjusted. I didn’t fire a lot of pieces. This is key! The more pots you save the more you have to trim and glaze! By not saving everything I was able to throw a lot more! And that’s it! I recognize how fortunate I was to have all these variables align for myself, so please do what you can with what you have and don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s! Also this is just one way, but it may not be the right way for you! Have fun and enjoy ur clay journey! And most of all, be kind! Don’t be a Jason!

  3. Hawaiʻi doesn’t have Michelin stars because Michelin doesn’t currently publish a guide here, not because our restaurants aren’t worthy. And if bringing the guide here means spending public money to do it, I’m not sure it’s worth it. I truly believe that if many of our chefs were given a choice between Michelin recognition or having that money reinvested directly into their restaurants and teams, they’d take the money. The work matters more than the star, but it doesn’t work if they don’t get the support. Dine out, if can, and the next time somebody says something about the restaurant scene in the islands, let’s educate and inform with aloha.
