  2. 1. We were able to develop a friendship first. Without introducing intimacy early on we were able to see if we actually liked each other as people first. Because of that, the friendship in our marriage is still there because we spent our dating period focused on building that over anything else. 2. We built our relationship on our faith, shared values, and our love for the people around us. This isn’t to say that attraction and chemistry don’t matter. They do and you definitely need it. But, we were able to focus on the other components of a relationship a lot more because we waited. This shows up in marriage because even if we don’t agree on everything, we always know we have the same goal. 3. Pretty much everything seems new and special. We went on a road trip this weekend and had moments like, “wow we get to do this together forever?” 😂 sounds so corny but having to wait for something makes you appreciate it a lot more. 4. It teaches you delayed gratification. We’re used to getting everything so quickly in our society. Waiting shows you that short term sacrifice has long term benefits if you’re willing to do the work for it. 5. We had to figure out others way to connect besides one thing.. which has helped us now and will be beneficial in the long run. 6. The trust is different.. because we were able to show each other that we have self control it’s easier to believe that now that we’re married. Also, don’t let these people lie to you. LIFE UPDATE: This comes rather late but On June 8th, 2023 I became a first-generation university graduate finishing cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Justice/Cultural Studies with a concentration in “Art for Social Change” and Minors in Psychology and Apparel Design/Merchandising. Now that its been three months since I’ve graduated, I’ve continued to grapple with what it means to exist in this world, pursue my passions but also simultaneously find space to heal and nurture my inner child. (Admittedly have spent a LOT of my “big girl money” on stuffed animals LOL) I now have a stable full-time career in the non-profit world and pursuing my goal of serving the community I grew up in but furthermore, I also am incredibly blessed to say I am continuing to develop my creative career on the side. Though I know this is not the norm for most people fresh out of college, I recognize the privilege I have to be able to say I can make this choice for myself. Though to be honest, that sounds really surreal to me considering the emotional turmoil I experienced throughout the entirety of my life. Growing up as a Queer child of Southeast Asian immigrant parents in South Seattle, I’ve been dealt a rather hefty hand of challenges while navigating life. Throughout the years, I’ve learned so many stories and met so many amazing and beautiful people that have encouraged me to push further and strive for continuous growth and prosperity. To me, this looks like happiness and the ability to say that I am content with the free-will I have to define who I get to be and learning to give grace for the mistakes I’ve made as I continue exploring what it means to be Storm. There is genuinely so much I can say that this measly little caption isn’t and never going to be enough to truly encompass the full extent of what I’ve navigated to get where I am in life today. I remain grateful that I can continue to be inspired by my community and am motivated to push my boundaries and challenge myself even further by hearing everyone’s stories through my art. I think that has been the greatest gift thus far that has emerged from me choosing to blossom my creativity 🌸 - Storm ⛈️🌪️🌊
