  1. When I planted this banana two years ago, along with 50+ other tropical and subtropical plants in my Northern California food forest (zone 9b), it was very much an experiment. I knew there was a chance that they would survive and possibly fruit here, but it wasn’t a sure thing. What I never would have expected is a rack of bananas this massive and for the fruit to taste so phenomenal. To be honest, I would’ve been stoked with a dozen bananas that tasted almost as good as what I could buy in the store. So to say this experience has exceeded my expectation would be an understatement. This banana plant was a gift from a friend who didn’t know the name of the variety. After talking with people who have been growing bananas for a lot longer than I have it sounds like this is most likely a Tall Nam Wah banana. #gardening #garden #homegrown #bananas#homestead #permaculture #foodforest #plants

Your supermarket basil is always dying? 🌱💚 I call it « The Basil Trauma » and I used this ironic naming in my last two books, to picture that these kind of « fails » can make you think that you do not have a green thumb, as you can’t keep alive a healthy thriving plant. BUT…This has nothing to do with you! This supermarket Basil is simply not designed to grow further, it has way too many plants for such a small pot, it is absolutely normal that it can’t grow more and enventually dies. How to heal your Basil trauma? 🌱 Divide this basil into smaller groups & replant in several pots with fresh soil which will be loaded with nutrients. They will have more space to grow! 🌱 You can also simply cut a basil stem under a node, remove lower leaves & place in a cup of water. I change the water every day. It will develop new roots, replant it and you will have a new free plant. How to take care of Basil? 🌱 Basil is a summer plant, it needs warm summer temperatures & lots of sun. Place it indoor near a sunny window. When summer temperatures are here, place your pot outdoor in a sunny spot. It requires patience but almost no maintenance. * Follow me to learn how to grow your own food in pots & containers, on your balcony, terrace or patio * Out of one organic ginger rhizome, you can harvest many new ones and the growing process is easy! Step by step explanations : 🌱 Buy an organic ginger at your local market. Organic is important to make sure it is not treated with anti-growth/sprout products. Your Ginger will need to sprout. 🌱 Keep your ginger rhizome indoor in a small plate with water. Spray water every day to keep it humid. 🌱 After a few weeks, it will develop sprouting eyes. Stems will develop and grow from these eyes. 🌱 Plant your rhizome in a pot of 4L / 1 Gallon, water regularly & keep indoor at warmth. Green stems will develop in a few weeks. 🌱 After your last spring frost date, plant out outdoor in a bigger pot of minimum 20L/ 5 Gallon. You can add some mulch. Place in half sun half shade location. Water regularly. 🌱 Without any big maintenance, after 9/10 months, your ginger will be ready for harvest. The taste of homegrown ginger has truly no comparison. These little plants can contain 40 times more nutrients vs their mature counterparts! * Follow @thefrenchiegardener for tips on how to grow your own food indoor & outdoor on a balcony / patio * Growing microgreens at home is way cheaper versus buying them in a store. You can reuse many kitchen/food containers to grow them. I’m reusing a food delivery container in this video. 🌱 Makes holes at the bottom to allow water to drain 🌱 Place the platter on a lid so that it can gather back the excess of water 🌱 Fill with light soil (the same as for seedlings), stamp & water 🌱 Add a lot of seeds, be generous (alfalfa in this reel), spray with water & stamp to make sure seeds are well placed on the soil 🌱 Add a lid on top to place them in the dark during 3 days 🌱 The seeds will germinate & they will push up the lid 🌱 After 3 days, place them at light (natural or grow light) 🌱 Harvest what you need, rinse & enjoy! You can add microgreens in all dishes, it’s delicious & nutritious.
