  2. My rectum is gone from my body forever. My anus is sewn shut permanently. Surgery went well Thursday. All robotic, but recovery has been way more brutal than I thought it would be. The surgical incisions are okay, the pain meds are handling those. It’s the fistulas. They opened them during surgery so they can drain and heal now that they’re disconnected. That deep aching fistula pain has a hold of me right now. The same pain that started this whole thing four years ago is what I’m fighting through to finish it. Years of damaged tissue finally getting a chance to repair. This is Edna. I’ve been up walking with her. Told her I was looking for my rectum, asked if anyone had seen it. Her smile and laugh, that’s what I needed today. The fistulas have to heal from the inside out. Weeks, maybe months. But the source is gone. My body can finally heal. PS. This Dermot Kennedy song has been on repeat the last four years

Dr. DeLeon gave me a real chance. But recovery? Nothing like I expected. Unexpected complication. Hospital care that failed repeatedly. And this morning they changed my pain meds without telling me. Grateful for my surgeon. Exhausted from fighting the system while trying to heal. This is what recovery actually looks like.

Drives: 5.0/5.0 Love how the ball doesn’t climb up the face of the paddle and keeps your trajectory. The thermoformed core makes this ball hit so, so, so hard. Third shot drops: 5.0/5.0 I was super concerned moving to a thermoformed paddle that I’d sacrifice grit and spin. I didn’t. Somehow it’s more gritty than my Raw 13x but hits way harder. Hand speed: 5.0/5.0 For an elongated paddle this is very maneuverable—mores than the electrum and GBX elongated for sure. Also, my fav part about the paddle is probably how when I’m in a hands battle the ball doesn’t come back. This thing just hits so darn hard. Dinks: I was super concerned with a thermoformed paddle and 16mm core I would be hitting way too high dinks. After about a week of adjustment I was able to get my dinks down (thank goodness). Resets: 5.0/5.0 Totally freaking effortless (see video). Just put your paddle out and let it do the work. Serves & Returns: pretty effortless, which is nice. I definitely don’t have to “effort” so much on the ball, which I normally have to with my 13mms. CONSISTENCY OF MANUFACTURING!!!! 5.0/5.0 I’ve played 4 different Muvn Gruvn’s and each feels the same. This is HUGE for anyone who is frustrated by having paddles break down every 2 months or having two paddles feel totally different that should be identical. #pickleball #pickleballpaddle #carbonfiber #pickleballpro #review #gruvn #muvn

  2. Keeping your paddle (and the ball) in front of you is mission critical to good dinking. The 💋of death is letting it get behind you. It’s a strange feeling, especially if coming from tennis where you tend to meet the ball to your side and just in front. In pickle, think about keeping your body parallel to the net (open) as much as possible and keep that paddle in front of you…! Something I say a lot in lessons is “meet the ball. Sooner! Keep trying to meet it.” The tendency is to watch the ball floating until it gets behind you … avoid this! I’m posting the full video from our sold out clinic @boulderpickleball — stay tuned!
