  2. Most parents don’t realize they are doing compulsions right alongside their child. It often starts from a place of love. You answer the same question over and over because your child is distressed. You avoid certain foods, places, or objects because it seems easier than dealing with the fallout. You repeat phrases in a specific way because your child can’t move on until you do. None of that makes you a bad parent. In fact, it usually means you are trying your best to reduce your child’s anxiety and keep the peace. The problem is that OCD learns quickly. When family members participate in compulsions, even with the best intentions, OCD gets the message that the fear must be important and the compulsion must be necessary. That doesn’t just keep OCD going. It often pulls the entire family into its cycle. Recovery isn’t about becoming cold, dismissive, or refusing to support your child. It’s about learning how to support your child without supporting OCD. That shift is not always easy, especially when your child is distressed, angry, or begging for reassurance. But it is one of the most important parts of long term OCD recovery. If you want support learning how to set boundaries with OCD, reduce family accommodation, and respond in a way that builds resilience instead of reinforcing the cycle, join us inside the AT Parenting Community where parents get in-depth support, zoom classes and a community to build these skills, plus we even have kid and teen monthly zoom support group calls as well! Go to www.atparentingcommunity.com Doors close this Thursday, April 30th. #ocd #ocdproblems #ocdrecovery #ocdawareness #childocd
