  3. Queer Platonic Love is Revolutionary! Things that have changed since centering my queer platonic relationships: 1. My sense of community! Since prioritizing my platonic friendships I have become grounded in a type of community that feels sooo nourishing! It feels incredibly stabilizing to have really solid friendships that are rooted in care and respect! 2. Less scarcity – more play! For me personally, I have spent a lot of time and energy prioritizing being desirable/wanted by romantic partners. Decentering romantic + s3gxl relationships has helped me stay grounded in what I want and need. When I focus on my platonic relationships, it’s felt a lot easier to just be silly and take myself less seriously! 3. Queering all parts of my life! When I am centering my queer platonic relationships I feel like the world opens up! We no longer have to rely on a label to tell us how to treat one another. We get to love and care for one another in what makes sense in that relationship. And while that’s totally possible in any type of relationship, focusing on my platonic relationships has allowed me to move through lots of old wounds and care for my friends in new ways. 4. Community Care! I have friends who have the same/similar values as me. This has meant that I am organizing with my friends and comrades. Friendships + organizing + prioritizing care = way more sustainable community organizing! My a-ha moment! I can remember a really clear moment in 2022 where I realized I was completely centering my romantic relationship at that time. I loved him dearly but I recognized in that moment that there was a lot of “we” and very little “me.” Since then in stops and starts I have put my energy towards slowly building friendships and moving towards centering my platonic relationships. Reminder! This is just my experience and everyone is different. So if a different way of life works better for you heck ya! I just learned that yesterday was worlds pilots’ day, and although it’s late I still wanted to get on here and mentioned that only 5% of the worlds pilots are women and I’m incredibly proud to be one of them! A metaphor pilots often use when asking them how to get the where they are is “there’s 1000 ways to skin the cat” I was 17 when I took up an interest in flying planes, I had no family background in aviation nor had I even been in a single engine aircraft. We lost our home in a fire and three months later my dad passed away and I had no financial support in my new found interest and I learned that becoming a pilot was not going to be easy for me. But I like a challenge. I decided that I knew what I wanted to do and the thought of flying planes ignited a undeniable passion and drive inside me. I told all my teachers and counselors that I needed to dedicate all my time towards achieving this goal, so I doubled up on all my classes and graduated a year early. I started knocking on doors of flight schools offering to fuel, wash planes, lend a hand to the mechanics, run social media pages, anything just to get into a plan. There is a lot of advice I would give to somebody looking to get their ratings this way but looking back I wouldn’t change anything because the hard work I put in for every hour I flew compensated for the lack of background I had in aviation. I worked in exchange for every hour towards my private pilot license and I made handmade jewelry from Seaglass I collected in Petersburg Alaska to pay for my check ride! This is just a long story short of how I got started in my aviation career. I still have a lot to learn and I’m no expert but if anything I’m a great testimony to “ if there’s a will there’s a way” if you’re honest to yourself and others and aren’t afraid to do what your passionate about, I think we often find that we are far more capable than we realize. 👩‍✈️🤍🌎 #Womaninaviation

  1. Today begins the second weekend of the @officialalaskastatefair! This weather is perfect for a day of fair fun. One of my favorite parts of the fair is obviously all the great food vendors! Some vendors only come around once a year; while others can be found all throughout food truck season. There’s something for everyone when it comes to fair food. Only 2 more weekends left to go see what the fair has to offer. This year there is a new acrobatics & equestrian show, @cirquemaceo, on the yellow trail. I have found this year that a lot of vendors are taking cards that used to be cash only, but still make sure to bring some cash just in case. New poke spot dropped this past March—sorry I’ve been keeping this one to myself y’all! @sakanasoiree is located in the Metro Mall & brings us a beautiful space with lots of room for remote work. We don’t have a dedicated poke bowl spot quite like this one in town so it’s definitely a very welcomed addition! I visited early April when they were still in the soft opening phase & poke bowls were build your own. While the DIY bowls are still an option they’ve also added their own creations of signature bowls to the menu! I built a bowl I built a bowl with a white rice base, AK sockeye salmon, pickled jalapeño, pickled slaw, pineapple, avocado, crispy onion & a mango, pineapple, jalapeño sauce. The salmon and tuna they use in their bowls are wild caught, and most of the sauces are made in house. For my drink I ordered the special, which was a mango, passionfruit matcha. This is the perfect spot for a healthy grab and go lunch, or a convenient location to work remotely or host a meeting (they have a private room available). The space open and inviting, and the food is creative, fresh and delicious.   3. Excited to share the grand opening of downtown Anchorage’s hottest new restaurant, @crimsonanchorage! Located inside of the @wildbirchhotel, a newly remodeled boutique hotel. The hotel & restaurant are decorated in what I would describe as rustic chic. Lots of warm inviting touches like the fireplaces, beautiful pops of color from the hand woven chairs & artwork commissioned by local artists, and many bronze industrial fixtures while maintaining that touch of casual cool that’s so notorious to Alaska. They have TWO outdoor seating options, which we know when the sun is out there is nothing better than a rooftop deck or patio & Crimson offers both. Crimson is adding another well rounded cocktail program to Anchorage. From vibrant & fruity to spirit forward there’s something for everyone! Featured cocktails in this reel include the signature Crimson Fire (fireweed infused vodka from @alaskanspirits), the Laguna Azul (@portchilkootdistillery rum), Hot Chena Smolder & the Never Have I Ever (a tequila based espresso martini). Bites I sampled were the Crimson nachos, Bison steak salad, and seared Alaskan scallops. The nachos were definitely my favorite item that I sampled. They were loaded up & full of flavor. The scallops had a lovely sear on them, and all the proteins were very nicely seasoned. For dessert I ordered the churros & the creme brûlée cheesecake. The espresso martini complimented these desserts perfectly. While I enjoyed both the churros were the star of the show. They were warm, crispy & sugary. The dulche de leche sauce was absolutely drinkable with how tasty it was! Go follow their page to be in the know for their weekly special offers like the Sunday brunch buffet, food & beverage specials like wild wine Wednesday or bourbon & board. Go grab a cocktail & some bites on the deck while summer is still with us! Excited to have this fun new spot in town!
