Hey everyone, my name is Amanda, I am Athabascan Deg Hit’an, I’m from the village of Holy Cross on the Yukon River but I grew up in Interior Alaska and wanted to share some cultural experiences and recommendations in and around Fairbanks… The Morris Thompson Center is at the top of my list, they have exhibits there that are exactly like my Grandpa Ed’s fish camp and the tent exhibit is exactly what my mom and her 10 siblings slept in while at fish camp. Second on my list is the World Eskimo Indian Olympics, this event is absolutely amazing, they share so much culture and history of Alaska natives all over the state, the games they display are what natives used for survival back in history, it’s incredible what they have done to survive, they share all this and more at this event, it’s held every July in Fairbanks Alaska. The Museum of the North is also rich in information and history of the land and people of Alaska, they have beautiful pieces and exhibits that share so much culture and history. I also love the murals in downtown Fairbanks that portray our people. Another thing I love to do around Fairbanks is enjoy the land, it holds so much beauty and is rich in berries and fish, my family always gather from the land every year.   2. The hut we were staying at when filming this had 4 outlets for all the guests. Eventually they caught on to my FPV charger and said no more charging because it was making their WiFi crash. Fortunately, I had charged 6 batteries if I remember right prior to them shutting it down, so we were in business for the coming day🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓 @skimanguy

  3. Queer Platonic Love is Revolutionary! Things that have changed since centering my queer platonic relationships: 1. My sense of community! Since prioritizing my platonic friendships I have become grounded in a type of community that feels sooo nourishing! It feels incredibly stabilizing to have really solid friendships that are rooted in care and respect! 2. Less scarcity – more play! For me personally, I have spent a lot of time and energy prioritizing being desirable/wanted by romantic partners. Decentering romantic + s3gxl relationships has helped me stay grounded in what I want and need. When I focus on my platonic relationships, it’s felt a lot easier to just be silly and take myself less seriously! 3. Queering all parts of my life! When I am centering my queer platonic relationships I feel like the world opens up! We no longer have to rely on a label to tell us how to treat one another. We get to love and care for one another in what makes sense in that relationship. And while that’s totally possible in any type of relationship, focusing on my platonic relationships has allowed me to move through lots of old wounds and care for my friends in new ways. 4. Community Care! I have friends who have the same/similar values as me. This has meant that I am organizing with my friends and comrades. Friendships + organizing + prioritizing care = way more sustainable community organizing! My a-ha moment! I can remember a really clear moment in 2022 where I realized I was completely centering my romantic relationship at that time. I loved him dearly but I recognized in that moment that there was a lot of “we” and very little “me.” Since then in stops and starts I have put my energy towards slowly building friendships and moving towards centering my platonic relationships. Reminder! This is just my experience and everyone is different. So if a different way of life works better for you heck ya!   2. This fishing charter proposal was a first, and I loved every second of it!! When Carson reached out about me photographing their surprise proposal while him and Gabbie were visiting Alaska I was like HECK YES! We had a couple dates that lined up but when it worked out that I could come out on their fishing charter the game plan commenced! It was the most memorable day out on the water! The proposal went off without a hitch after the Captain sent an empty ring box into the waters for Gabbie to reel in and it was perfect! We fished, chatted, laughed and spotted wildlife the whole 10ish hour charter and caught a mix of halibut, rockfish, salmon and lingcod! I caught my first halibut and feel like a real Alaskan now despite being born and raised here. I would do it all over again in a heart beat! Also, it’s really hard to take straight photos on a boat when you’re rocking and rolling on the waves, I had my work cut out for me while shooting and in post editing and straightening them all 😂 Huge shoutout to @profishnsea and our amazing Captain Woody who helped us pull this all off! I wanted to post about this because so many people think that this is not normal to get along with your child’s “step parent” I use, “other mom” @breannbaby came into my sons life when he was 5 years old, and gave my son three beautiful siblings, his father helped. We may have very different parenting styles (nurturing-her / nurturing hard ass-me) I wouldn’t change anything. She stayed with Brayden and I for a few days recently, and I feel as though we became much closer. I took care of her for at least a day/ afternoon…because she wouldn’t rest! What’s cool is my/our son didn’t think it was weird at all, her and I laughed and stayed up talking about everything until we fell asleep. We take pride in the relationship we have built and wish more people could coparent as well as we do. Loves you! #makethisthenewnormal #coparents #datenight
