  1. I wish someone would have told me these things while I was in the depths of my loss. I remember thinking it must be something I was doing wrong. That I needed to fix myself. That if I just tried harder, slept more, ate better, pulled it together… I’d feel normal again. But the truth is, my body was grieving too. Long before I had the words for it, my nervous system was speaking through symptoms no one had explained to me. Grief doesn’t just break your heart. It alters your biology. Here are 4 physical symptoms of grief (and the science behind why they happen): 🧠 1. Brain fog Grief floods your body with stress hormones like cortisol, which dulls cognitive function. Your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain responsible for planning and focus, goes offline to help you survive. You’re not lazy or broken. You’re in a protective shutdown. 🌿 2. Digestive issues The gut and brain are connected through the vagus nerve. When grief activates the nervous system, digestion slows to conserve energy. You might lose your appetite, feel nauseous, or experience bloating or constipation. Your body is prioritizing survival. 💔 3. Chest tightness or breathlessness The sympathetic nervous system is often over-activated in grief, creating tension in the chest and shallow breathing. Some people even experience broken heart syndrome, a stress-induced heart condition. Your body is responding to heartbreak as if it were physical injury, because to the nervous system, it is. 😴 4. Bone-deep fatigue Grief is metabolically demanding. It depletes your adrenals, alters your sleep cycles, and keeps your body in a constant state of alert. Even when you appear still, your system is working overtime to process pain. This kind of exhaustion isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom. Grief rewires you. Not just emotionally, but biologically. And the more we understand that, the more compassion we can offer to ourselves and each other. If you’re feeling this too, be gentle. Your body is holding what words can’t express. And that’s not something to fix. It’s something to honor. All my love, Danielle ❤️ #grief #griefandloss #brainfog #nervoussystemsupport #healingjourney #love #sacredgrief

  2. You know that iconic scene of Nicole Kidman walking out of her divorce with Tom Cruise, arms wide, celebrating her freedom? My divorce ceremony was nothing like that. As we signed the last paper together, we reached across the table, held hands, and both began to cry. We stood to hug, but the mediator walked in, leaving us in this awkward pause. After it was over, we walked out onto the front porch of the old Victorian home where the office was. We stood there, holding each other, crying for what felt like an eternity. When we finally said goodbye, I felt a nudge that there was more I needed to say. Later, standing on top of a mountain in my own way of processing, I called him. I sobbed. I told him I loved him, not as his wife anymore but for who he truly is. I told him what an amazing father he is, and how grateful I am for the love he gave me. I told him I was excited for the love that is coming into his life. And that above all, I wanted to continue our mantra of love, compassion, and grace. I apologized for how much I changed after Jessi’s death. He told me never to apologize for that. He told me he was sorry he could not hold the space I needed. He told me he loved me too, and that he was sorry in his own ways. We cried again. It felt like a movie scene, the kind of ending you rarely see. Two people who love each other deeply, who love their children fiercely, and who know their paths are meant to go in different directions. It was one of the hardest moments of my life, second only to losing my best friend. And it is nothing to celebrate. But what I do celebrate is the love, the compassion, and the grace that carried us through. This was the most beautiful ending I could have asked for, even in its heartbreak. Because of my healing journey, I was able to stay open enough to hold love even in grief, to honor his pain as much as mine, and to let us both walk away with compassion. This is what it means to move through grief. Not shutting down, but holding one another inside it. To honor love, even when it changes form. All my love, Danielle ❤️ #divorce #grief #griefstory #love #compassion #grace #doitdifferent #emotionalhealing

  3. And why it shows up the way it does… Grief doesn’t always look like heartbreak. Sometimes, it hides beneath fatigue, disconnection, or anxiety… quietly shaping how we move through life. Grief is a sacred initiation. And the signs we often try to fix or push away? They’re messengers letting us know what the body, mind, and spirit need. As I often say: “Our capacity to fully grieve is in direct proportion to our soul’s evolution.” As we allow ourselves to feel, we allow the expansion of love to surface. We create peace and harmony in the body just by witnessing the parts of us that are still aching. The ones that need a little more tenderness. Here are 10 subtle signs you might be grieving… and why they may be showing up: 🌿 You’re tired all the time—even when you’ve rested. Grief weighs on the nervous system. Your body stays alert, even while you sleep. 🌿 You feel more reactive than usual. Your heart is tender. The little things feel bigger when you’re stretched thin. 🌿 You keep forgetting things, zoning out, feeling foggy. This is your brain protecting you from emotional overload. 🌿 You’re pulling away from people you love. Grief often needs stillness. Space. Time to just be. 🌿 You don’t feel like yourself—and don’t know why. Because something has changed. And so have you. 🌿 You cry when you least expect it. Grief moves when it finally feels safe. 🌿 You feel numb more than you feel sad. Numbness is protection when feeling it all would be too much. 🌿 You bounce between hyper-independence and overwhelm. This is your nervous system trying to cope with everything it’s holding. 🌿 Everything feels muted, foggy, or far away. Grief alters your emotional baseline. This is your body adapting. 🌿 You feel like something’s missing—but can’t name it. Because something is. And it mattered. If this spoke to something you’ve been carrying… I created a free guide just for you: 5 Ways Plant Medicine Supports Emotional Healing. ✨ Comment HEAL below and I’ll send it your way. 2. Twenty-Seven ✨ You taught me many things, but there are a few lessons I’ll hold close for forever: — Change is the true catalyst for growth. The scariest of shifts allow you to level up. — Compromising is a short term fix that will haunt you day in and day out until you face it. — There is deep growth in having the courage to face inner truths and being honest with yourself. — At the end of the day, being self reliant is the greatest strength you can have. You know you can count on you. — Trust your intuition. It never lies. — Step back and allow things to unfold. You don’t always need to control the outcome, because what is meant to be will always surface the way it’s supposed to. — Be selective and intentional with your time. — Value your work. Value your experience. You and your time are of increasing value. — Your boundaries are unknown, unless you make them clear— to others and to yourself. — It’s okay to turn off the computer, take a ski day, do nothing on a Saturday, have a drink, skip the workout class, eat the ice cream, buy the shirt, etc etc etc. — Think about it, go to sleep, and address it in the morning. — Love and accept people for where they’re at. Don’t take anything too personally. — In a week, it probably won’t matter. — Loving, caring, and prioritizing others is important, as long as you take care of yourself first. — You are capable of having everything you desire. It’s already within you. Twenty-Eight ✨ I have a feeling you’re going to be magic. (A few moments where I felt complete joy from this last year— how can I only pick 20!!)

  3. A Reality Check. Sisu. As a young boy running barefoot through the big sage of the montana of my youth I remember being instilled in me the term. A Finnish term of Dads upbringing roughly translating into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of extreme adversity. Painful words of reality came on a cold January night last year; Dad had between 3-6 months to live (leaning to the lesser side of that ratio.) Two days later as I called the hospital to check in on him. No response. An hour later I received the call; dad’s blood/oxygen level was depleting fast, and to gather family as soon as possible. Dad wasn’t looking good for those 4 days; hanging by a thread between this world and his next. The reality of the hospital staff was nothing short of giving up induced by laziness and lack of care; turning a recovery to home into keeping him comfortable for his final days. We sat there for 4 days, feeding him spoons of water, and sucking the mucus out of his throat as staff was reluctant to provide him back an IV, and pumping him full of morphine for no pain. “Bastards.” I presumed to think. “But they don’t know dad like I do.” This man, kicked in the face by a horse in 2011, suffering 109 breaks and fractures. Becoming the worst trauma case Bozeman Deaconess Hospital had ever seen. Worse than any bear attack or car accident the county had seen prior. And from there. 25 plus stokes, too many UTIs to count, and to top it off - Vascular dementia. “These people have no idea who they have in their hospital bed.” I thought. And on the eve of that 4th night. Dad awoke, thirsty as fucking hell. All the man could do was drink. And my god was he back-soured up like an eagle thousands of feet from where he was perched prior. Over a year later, Dad is home. On at-home hospice with Mom as his full-time caregiver. I’m not too sure how many times I whispered into Dad’s ear the term those 4 days. But a person never loses their conciseness of hearing even when asleep. To the strongest man on earth. And to the people that make us strong. Sisu.

  2. You know me I love a good social media trend and I got excited to hop on the “2016 where was I” trend until I actually looked and whooohooo that was a year ….2016 was probably the worst year of my life. I’ve held back from sharing a lot of this in detail because not everything feels appropriate for social media. But it made me stop and really look at the last 10 years … because that year completely broke me. In 2016, I just got back together with my long-term boyfriend, only to find out a month in he was still cheating (and I stayed) At the same time, my son was caught in the middle of a family member assault case involving his biological father, and we were just beginning a long legal battle. Not long after, his biological grandmother took me to court, trying to gain custody of Q knowing her son was about to loose his. My family was under attack. That was the bottom for me. I felt worthless and powerless - I truly believed there had to be something wrong with me — that maybe I wasn’t enough or worthy enough to be chosen. I tried to prove my value and I cared far too much about what things looked, I wanted to stay so Q didn’t have anymore loss in his life. I was worried about failing again instead of what was actually healthy. At the same time, I felt like we weren’t safe as a family, and I had to protect my son from the one other person in the world who was supposed to keep him safe with me , his blood - It truly horrible space to be in. I wish I could say healing was quick. That we got out unscathed but It wasn’t…. and we did not. Ten years later, I’m still healing, processing and grieving so many parts of that time — but I’m finally able to understand things in ways I never was able to grasp. THE POINT - If you’re in a season where things keep piling up and it feels like nothing is getting better, please know this: healing doesn’t always happen quickly, but if you keep moving forward, it will get better. Time keeps moving forward and you must keep moving with it. Don’t become a victim to your circumstance or situation and sit - Time can be your biggest ally. KEEP GOING. ( And pray ) #2016 #legacyoflove #choosehealing #healing #womanofgod
