  3. Carving into 16 years sober today!! I like to think there’s multiple ways of staying sober. And what ever way works for you is fine. Some need meetings every day. Some need a healthy hobbies. Some need both. It’s just fine! For myself when I chose to get sober I was just done! Having surfing was Paramount. All the things that fall into place when you make that choice are incredible. Beautiful wife and kids, jobs, friends. Family comes back into your life. But I can tell you it’s really tough to hear how you were to people but all you can do is trying and change for the better. (And those old behaviors come up from time to time) but you can’t beat yourself up. Also putting your head down and Excepting jobs and wages less desirable to just start making money and get going on life was one of the harder things to do. But being humble is a Quality I really look up to. Along the way lots of people helped me and I want to say thank you. From @skin_dizzle giving me a board to ride freshly sober to all the support from @nellysmagicmoments and honestly Dennis young for a place to live and Rosey for her support @nat_young for also helping me.   3. Today was a day I will remember for a long time. This was the biggest swell I have seen at Pleasure Point. It felt like Mimi Mavs and I saw guys ride some 30’ers. Which is crazy to say. Sets were everywhere. The rides were walled out and so fast. Some drops wedged and bowled so hard that they were super critical. 25 second interval waves are so hard to surf. I got a few that made me feel like a big wave surfer again. Sure was nice. I got flogged getting pounded in. Came to the beach very beat up and tired but okay and feeling good now. I’m grateful I can still surf these conditions. Cheers to everyone that made it out and rode some waves. That was historic. 🙌🏽.   2. Jai Maa... we bought a home! 1882 Victorian, Santa Cruz, CA. Rich with history. Adorned with beauty. And now, imbued with our love 💗 I've rented since I left home at 18. So this feels exceptionally celebratory. Exciting. Also, terrifying. Also, since I don't subscribe to conventional beliefs re ownership, esp land ownership, complex. What feels incredibly clear + coherent: this new beginning is not really about owning a thing. It's about practice: practicing being a devoted steward to life's gifts. It's about grounding commitment, creating nurturing spaces, fostering beauty in the world. Honoring a long lineage of care. It's about sacred reciprocity, a dedicated caring relationship w/a friend who also cares for me, my family, community. It's about vast possibility. This home, she's a living being, an ancestor. I feel the spirit of artisans who carved the spiral staircase, the devotion of human+horse helpers who gathered redwood for her from nearby forests - before cars existed! I feel her essence, also her personality - let me tell you, she's a delight! Also, sturdy. Dependable. I feel her inspiring me into questions I've long pondered: What if we lived in a culture where nothing and no one was a throwaway? Where we treated every thing+being as precious, nondisposable. What if we purchase less crap, and things we choose to have: Loving them, taking good care, honoring them, letting go when it's someone else's turn? Yoga taught me about nonattachment - a key teaching re how suffering is rooted in grasping, clinging. Not just to things, but more insidiously, to beliefs, thoughts, narratives. Nonattachment is NOT teaching us to dishonor beings/things. In fact, yoga has shown me how to be MORE intimate in my relations. To connect + grieve + value more deeply. To live + love more fully! To see the divinity in everyone/thing, even when conditioned mind has concretized a story, probs due to experiencing fear. Nondual tantra philosophy: if god is anywhere, god is everywhere. I bow to the divinity of this home, and vow to bless her w/ family, adorn her w/ altars, and relentlessly imbue her with love. What grace.🥹 Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. #home

  3. 20 years ago today this bird flew. Jay Moriarity 6/16/78 - 6/15/01. Words will never do. This kid was BIG in Spirit! No questions about it, Jay operated on an entirely different frequency. He walked his own path and would emanate joy in the darkest of places. Jay could effortlessly remove people’s walls and disarm them with his radiant smile, at a time in our neighborhood when smiles weren’t always the cool thing to do. Jay knew himself. It was carried in his eyes and demeanor with inner confidence, not with ego and a puffy chest. Jay faced his life struggles or hardships early on and channeled it into his training and passion for big waves. Jay did his inner work and pushed the boundaries seemingly without fear. It’s not an adventure if it’s easy right🤪 We ended our 4 day #froglakehuts backcountry trip with a long and tedious journey through a snow storm only to get back to our car and realize our work was far from over. ANNOUNCEMENT- Not to sure where to start. @eightsandacestattoo has been my home for the last 11 years between apprenticing and tattooing, trying to figure out how to express my gratitude to the shop or @eights_aces_flip in a few words seems stupid. All I can say is I wouldn’t be the man I am today if it wasn’t for Flip and the shop, making tattoos is just a small part of that. Thank you to everyone who has come through and seen me, tattoos are just doodles until they find a good place to land.
