  2. For this week’s story of #HowWeMetAtRU, we have @seanpatrickmusic & Anthony Ingoglia ✨ “In 2002, Anthony & I became fast friends through campus hangs with mutual colleagues. Anthony and I would have many adventures during our time at Rutgers in our four years together. Spending many late nights together on College Ave. and always ending up at the old grease trucks parking lot for late night shenanigans. After graduation we would stay close. We would travel to Madison, Wisconsin and New Orleans, Louisiana together. Anthony and his future wife would fly back to NJ multiple times and stay with me and my wife to see me perform, and just spend time together. I even flew out for his wedding in San Francisco. We just always continued to stay in each others lives over the years and became the closest of friends. In 2021, I was informed I needed a liver transplant due to a chronic illness AND I also had a rare bile duct cancer called Cholangiocarcinoma. I desperately began searching for a living donor so that I could receive said transplant as soon as possible. Without me knowing, Anthony voluntarily signed up to begin the donor process and after several exams in which he had to cross the country to take ... it was determined that we were a match. My Rutgers experience would never have been the same without Anthony. I didn’t have many friends at Rutgers at the beginning, but thankfully our friendship changed that and I credit our meeting to me having some of the greatest moments of my life at that time. It goes without saying though ... my LIFE would not be the same had Anthony and I not met at RU. Thankfully Rutgers brought us together in ‘02 and over 20 years later, that friendship would ultimately save my life.”

In 2021, we cancelled a family vacation to Aruba and my 40th birthday plans because I was diagnosed with needing a liver transplant and then we found out, during my exams, that I also had Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). In 2022, after going through over 30 radiation treatments and 8 weeks of chemotherapy, my dear friend Anthony donated 68% of his liver to save my life. In 2023, 10 months after 3 major surgeries, a liver transplant, and defeating cancer - I attempted my comeback. I would end up recording and performing over ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE 👀👀 shows across 8 states in 8 months … all the while persevering through the loss of a 10 year career at Vans; saying goodbye to my decade run with Lifespeed; and launching a brand new band in Sean Patrick & The Alibis - that is ready to do big things this year! Now in 2024, I found myself in Cancún, on a vacation that escaped me 3 years ago; so incredibly humbled, grateful, thankful and blessed to be alive and focused on simply doing what I love for the rest of my time on this Earth. To all of you who follow me, support me, and STILL check in on me … I LOVE YOU SO VERY MUCH … and that love continues to grow everyday. I wake up to the scar in these pictures; and to new feelings in this new body - every single day - and it just reminds me how insanely lucky I am to be here. It also reinforces my resolve to advocate for anyone out there going through their battles with organ failure, cancer, and mental health with every opportunity that comes my way. I’m not strong. I’m not brave. I just wasn’t ready to die. And that mentality is sometimes the most important thing you need to get through your hardest times. If I was able to make it. You can too.
