Years later, when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, my perspective shifted. I saw just how precious every moment truly is. How we cling to photographs when time feels too short.   1. Once upon a time there was a college baseball athlete that one day decided he wanted to get on saddle bronc horses. He walked right up to the coaches and asked if he could get on one. When they asked if he had any experience he said no. He went home, got a saddle from his uncle and within a week the coaches were calling him to see if he wanted to be on the team. Little did anyone know, he would end up qualifying for the NFR in 2019 shortly after graduating. I asked Mitch Pollock, “What do you believe separates the rodeo athletes that make it in the PRCA and the ones that don’t?” Wanna know what he said? “They believe in themselves.” My interview with Mitch was incredible. I asked him all sorts of questions but this one takes the cake. He said the biggest difference in the athletes that make it versus the ones that don’t is the fact that they believe in themselves. This is coming from an NFR qualifier who didn’t ride his first saddle bronc horse until he was 21 years old. He went to college on a baseball scholarship and changed the entire trajectory of his life to change this new dream. Even though he grew up junior rodeoing and from a ranching background, when he approached the CSI Rodeo coaches about getting on a bucking horse, he had ZERO experience. He shot his shot. Why? Because he believed in himself. So can you. If you needed a sign to shoot your shot and reach out to that coach about being on their team, this is it. Sometimes you have to shove that door open. You’ve got this.
