  2. What’s the single easiest way to win a point in pickleball? Hit a dangerous serve. Notice how I didn’t say hit a “hard” serve. A hard mid-height serve is what your opponent wants. What they don’t want? The lob serve; the short serve. They don’t want to create their own pace. I tell all my students if you’re not missing one serve a game then I can promise that you’re also not winning any free points on your serve. It costs you nothing if you miss a serve and you could be gaining 3-4 totally free points per game with it. Having a dangerous serve takes no natural skill or talent— just you, a bucket of balls, and a court.   3. The “controlled volley drill” is so much harder than it looks! When you try this for the first time you’ll see how quickly you devolve into fast hands and short rallies. Which is not the goal! Can you do this 10 balls in a row? Twenty? Congrats, that means you’re finally FEELING the ball stay on your paddle longer and you’re CONTROLLING exactly where and at what speed you want it to go. I’ll never forget the day my coach @coachcrandall.pb told me I needed to go out and hit 100 ultra controlled volley dinks to different spots in the kitchen. It made no sense to me. Until I did it. I realized he was totally right: controlling your volleys is game changing - it means that you can now control your speed-ups (what separates the volley and the speed-up is essentially just a few more MPH—they are almost the same shot). Which means you can decide at the last minute whether to volley dink OR speed up OR lob, etc. Your whole world opens up suddenly.   2. Some anniversaries hit harder than others. 41 years since my mom died. These pictures made me smile, laugh, and cry. My brother Buddy called today and we both couldn’t believe so much time has gone by. Carrie Macuha was one special human being! She was the one that people turned to for advice. She was super funny and our cheerleader. She was generous and caring. Most of all, she wanted us to be happy. I wish my friends could have met her!

  3. Want to be clear Joola has done nothing wrong, they made a great paddle. In fact one that is too good 😊. I commend the PPA Tour and Pro Pickle Labs for trying to get this right and protect the game. Showing up to Dallas however I heard the same sound from Joola players as they were playing with the pre-painted “Alpha”. I believe the technology is the same as that hollow sound and crazy spin were still obvious. As our testers know, RPM and exit velocity are the only things that matter and at the moment are almost impossible to test remotely. They are doing their best, but I think this is going to be a long term struggle between technology and what is good for the game. #pickleball #paddles #testing #fair #technology #evolution #safety #velocity #science
