I know this seems a little weird and creepy, but this is what was really going on… My husband @johndouglastrapp and I have been together for 26 years, 3 kids, 9 houses, 5 businesses, 4 dogs, 2 cats…and a LOT of life events 😆 Trust me when I say that we spend a lot of time together BUT going on dates over the years has definitely taken a VERY backseat to the busyness of our lives. Recently, we began to really notice how deep and comfortable our patterning was when he would suggest we go and do something together and I would say, “can we just cuddle and watch a show with popcorn?” (I seriously love my sweatpants, my bed, and getting into a good series that him and I can riff on for days). But we were stuck without even knowing just how stuck we were. Then, to my surprise, he bought me one of those cheesy date books for Christmas. It has 52 date ideas (one for every week of the year), and you don’t know what the date is until you scratch it off. Last night’s date was called, “Ghost Me,” and well..I think the video says it all. Only, John was sweet enough to set it up in our sauna, play my fave soundtrack (Dirty Dancing, of course), and then when we finished creating, we crawled into bed and Watched Ghost (I think I liked our scene better 😆❤️). It felt weird, a little awkward, but was soooo much fun! Realizing that we learn more about eachother when we are out of our daily habits has been fire 🔥 for our marriage. As I sit quietly in the energy of the new year and begin to plant new seeds to be manifested, I couldn’t help but look around and shed some tears in gratitude for the home we called in last year. Truth is, we had thought AND tried really, REALLY hard- to build a new home on our farm property in Vernon. But nothing was working. And then, just like that, we stopped trying. And that’s when this home popped up….but it was still in our hometown of Edmonton 🤔 Dreams work like that sometimes. I’m learning to trust the vision but let go of the how, the when, and even in this case- the where. Because you never know the bigger purpose to your life until you let go and create space for magic 💫❤️ Turns out, we can have our cake AND eat it too!! Hi everyone, Lesley here👋🏽 I’m overjoyed to welcome many new faces into this incredible community of healing, self-discovery and growth✨ It’s been 5 years since Empathy + Me launched, and I thought it was about time I reintroduce myself and refresh the website!👀 Over a decade ago, my journey into wellness began as a means of healing from domestic violence, other traumas, & the lasting effects of both. Each step blossomed into a profound practice of self-discovery, compassion and self-love over the years🩵 This path became a never-ending journey, eventually inspiring me to combine my deeply personal experiences with my extensive training to create nurturing and transformative spaces for the community to heal as well. Empathy + Me came as a calling in a dream back in July 2018, and began with candles, bath soaks, and sprays🕯️ It’s now grown into a space dedicated to intentional wellness, fostering moments of peace, introspection and connection (and yes, we still have the candles😉) In 2019, I took a major leap of faith and quit my job to pursue this dream full-time, until I closed the doors two years later - temporarily - to move to Vancouver, BC. I worked in tech to get some stability, however this eventually lead me to experiencing severe burnout and passive ideation. With lots of supports and strategic planning, I took another big leap and have spent this entire year coming back to myself, finding joy, realigning and furthering my education 💙 I absolutely love learning, whether watching a documentary or taking trainings. I officially have my post-graduate degree in Neuroscience/Psych & Mental Health 🎉and four courses away from completing my Master’s which is going to be a schlogg this January >>> To add: I am NOT a scientist at all! I see the world in symbols and more like the arts, not linear hypotheses. But I’ve realized how entwined the two are.. 2 >> I’m going to share my chicken scratches with you more often & findings that I think are helpful - today, the underlying brain areas of meditation: Today, a seminal read, “An Unhappy Mind is a Wandering Mind” (see screen 6, the biggest bubbles represent the amount of people in this study that reported “not mind wandering” - the horizontal dashes indicates more happiness, across all samples, as it scales to the right - please note where: listening to music, making love, meditation, and exercising fall on this mind wandering scale! Less happy scales horizontally to the left. (Working is a big one!) as well as computer time. And quite a big bubble: unpleasant mind wandering. There is such thing as pleasant mind wandering/ but the unpleasant thinking of past/present/future is in association with the Default Mode Network (DMN). The DMN is a brain network in specific association with increased mind wandering and pathologies like depression, anxiety, ADHD, and feelings of dread and rumination. Healing requires we practice and rehearse the tools on this continuum more, that essentially get us “out of our head.” Join me tomorrow for a one month course guided course in meditation. To those posting photos of Ganga and how much they miss “India.” I love many of you dearly but I really invite you to actually look at what is happening outside of your vata, Himalayan bubble. Look at what is REALLY happening in India and to its very people. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ PSA to those who have been inspired by India and its practices. Who build businesses around ayurveda, tantra and Vedic teachings. Do you see the issue here? ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Listen, yoga and spirituality is made available and accessible to all for a reason. This is how it should be. This post is not meant to be exclusive. And I get it, we are all exhausted from political battles. But please do NOT say that you are inspired by Indian culture if you are not willing to use your platforms to also learn and spread awareness about what is actually going on in the very country that inspires you. The majority of the people that I see ignoring this issue are still white people who work within the white wellness industry. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ The largest peaceful protest in human history has been going on in Delhi for MONTHS. MANY of these protestors are elderly and they are being met with extreme violence by #DelhiPolice. In an attempt to hide the world from seeing what government violence looks like (beatings with batons until victims are bleeding out, use of tear gas, stones, even open fire - please watch the videos if you need proof), they shut down the internet for a period of time. The only reason that the internet has been restored is because of all of the noise that we have been making.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ You don’t have to be celebrity with a mass following to post on an issue. The only way that we can get international leaders to condemn a very authoritarian Indian government is by spreading awareness within our communities. Now if you still have no interest, that really is fine. Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh have been the first masters/teachers that I developed a relationship with as a little kid. And now I have many.   2. This was an incredible dream and experience come true in the northern mountains of Albania @mrizi_i_zanave A truly authentic farm to table feast. Homemade devotional foods and biodynamic farming has a very deep place in my heart. Foods like this are quite rare these days, and provide a beautiful reminder of how crucial ethical food systems are for our collective health. Between the intentional farming practices, preservation of soil biodiversity and the hands of love that transfer into the dishes, directly translates into your vessel physically and thus the energetic body. For most of the courses, my eyes were closed during the first few bites. And most importantly, these dishes are enhanced with gratitude and beautiful company ♥️

  3. It is in the ritual that which we find expansion of experience and presence. A structured, intentional practice. These rituals have been deeply used in many cultures for centuries. For me, my roots are Ukrainian and so we used branch whisking in the banya (sauna) and herbal infused waters or essential oils to enhance the steam for purification, healing, and social connection. Ice bathing or snow rolling is also a huge part of the Slavic Banya experience. At @arccommunity_ , we work with traditional Aufguss rituals including towel waving, snowballs with essential oils, intention setting and music to immerse and connect deeper.
