Every year I create a Krampus for my KrampusKINDL market (click on my BIO link for free tickets and details)... this year I wanted to manifest a Krampus that had both friend and foe vibes.... a trickster god that may choose to help a lost soul in a forest... or perhaps, just for fun, lead them astray... Side Note ~ I find it a big challenge (and a lot of fun) to give the classic red and green tones a moody vibe. And to stay within that theme.... the idea of 'friend of foe'... I have used a very modern trickster god, who has manifested itself as "AI", to help me create this image. I have to say, it did not cut back the amount of work or time that went into this piece. In fact, I've probably spent more time on this image than some of my other (non ai) works. I've generated about 100 prompts and then pieced together some of my favourite bits and details to complete this work in Photoshop. I then added a good deal of texture and paint to give it more of my flavour and style. I should note, I do not reference "the style of" any other artists when generating a prompt. I'm still trying to figure out how to use AI ethically now that this god has burst out of Pandoras Box. It's definitely a learning process... I’ve gone back and forth on whether to share this, but if it helps even one person avoid the heartbreak we’re living through, then it’s worth it. 💔 A few weeks ago, we lost our sweet Cleo in a way I still can’t wrap my head around — to pet suffocation. While we were out, she got a bag of her freeze-dried food off the counter. When we came home, we found her on her dog bed with the bag over her head. She was gone. We never got to say goodbye. It was unexpected and horrific. There are no words for the kind of guilt and shock that comes with finding your best friend like that. Cleo wasn’t a dog who got into things. She never was. But she’d been struggling with what our vet originally suspected was EPI, a condition that left her starving no matter how much she ate. Whether it was that or just a tragic freak accident, I’ll never know. But it happened. And it broke us. What I didn’t know is how often this happens. Dogs and cats can suffocate in chip bags, food bags, treat bags, or even peanut butter containers. The bag creates a vacuum seal and cuts off air in seconds. It’s fast, quiet, and tragically preventable. Please, please cut up empty food bags before throwing them out, and store treats and food somewhere your pets can’t reach, even if they’ve never gotten into things before. We never thought this could happen to us, but it did. Cleo was everything to us, our adventure girl, our light on the dark days, our family.   1. Not gonna lie, I have been eyeing the beautiful organic fabrics from @iseefabric for quite some time now, so when the opportunity arose to partner with them I positively leaped at it! For the next several months you’ll see makes from me featuring their fabric — I have some fun projects up my sleeves to be sure. The first one is a hacked Fougere Sweater (pattern by the amazingly creative @lysimaque_sew !) in this delicious textured stretch-fabric in the maple colourway. I’m stoked because I do not have love for the polyester version of this sort of material and it’s all the rage right now but poly feels weird to me most times AND it releases micro plastics into the water system, and biodegrades never (just kidding, it does, but it takes so long it’s just CRAZY). So huge props to I See Fabric for producing an organic cotton version that is kinder to the planet at every stage of its life cycle. (*I should mention that recycled polyester fleeces and such are a cool idea, and I don’t know what goes into making them, and I know they won’t biodegrade easily, but they are keeping the stuff out of the landfill and giving it new life so that’s 👍.) . . . Deets: Pants - @annaallenclothing #persephonepants Top - @lysimaque_sew #fougeresweatshirt - hacked to remove center seam and add a henley style button placket using a Professor Pincushion YouTube video (thanks @professorpincushion !).   2. This shirt is made from a thrifted duvet. It had loads of paint stains on it when I bought it, so couldn’t be used as a duvet any longer (think wall paint - big rough splotches of it). So. I dyed it blue and carefully placed my pattern pieces so as not to use painty parts! The shirt is a #roscoeblouse @truebias and I added a button placket to the front of it. Pretty sure this detail was inspired by @little.nest.creative (thanks 🥰). Pants are #persephonepants @annaallenclothing with fabric from @blackbirdfabrics 🇨🇦 — you can read more about my Persephone journey in previous posts. That’s all for today! Stay safe and stay warm.   3. Still shot of the gingham set. I was inspired by @chrisinseams and her gingham shorts/tank set (thanks Chris!). The shorts are the #xaneleshorts by @frenchnavynow_ - one of my fave pattern designers 🥰! For these I took out a bit of volume from the top of the front between the pleats (slashed and closed) and then changed the two pleats into 1. The top is the #inaritee by @namedclothing with sleeves redrawn for a more boxy and roomy shape and less of a drop for the sleeve cap (ie. the top of the sleeve goes more “out” than curving down) for a more casual vibe. Props to my dear friend and trusted eye @jq.interiors for advising me and giving me courage to make a patterned set! I’ll prob wear this mostly as separates but I do think it’s super fun and comfy and summery as a pair also. The fabric was gifted by @iseefabric and it’s a super lovely linen to work with and wear. Would def buy linen from them in future. 💛

  3. sᴜʀғs ᴜᴘ 🏖 I think we found our new favorite breakfast place here in Mazatlan, the owners story was so unique I just had to share it. She is a young mother from Vancouver and had a severe car accident which ended her career as a professional female boxer resulting in a crazy idea to start a small restaurant at one of her families favorite vacation spots, not only is the food crazy delicious but its located right on the beach🙉 This girl is evidence that taking chances can result in some of the best things in life.

  1. I’ve been getting into an Autumn art flow the last couple of weeks. After experimenting with some mixed media compositions over the Summer, I was inspired to create a floral piece but this time centred around the upcoming Fall season🤎 Autumn is my absolute favourite time of year, so I couldn’t let the season go by without experimenting further in different art mediums. Moody and rich in colour, on an oversized (for me) canvas of 16x20”.   3. An autumnal bouquet🍂 Filled with mums, anemones, fall leaves and various wildflowers. This was one of those pieces that just came together so effortlessly. The flow, the colours, the brush strokes—everything seemed to work in my favour🤎 And it’s also one of those pieces that I really wish I captured the making of on video🥲 but I’m reminding myself that it’s important to live in the moment and not every movement in life has to be recorded. Doing what I love best—creating—is what matters most. When I realized Mila only had hours left, we decided to take her home and surround her with favourite things : her small circle of humans , her favourite field (it was too cold for her to go in her swamp 😔) and a giant steak. She was too weak to walk so she enjoyed most of the outing in a wagon. She was able to hold herself up for a few last sniffs and her eyes LIT UP when she saw that steak. Thank you @bendthebracket for documenting these moments Eventhough at the time I was sure I wouldn’t want to remember them. I am so glad we have these special memories to hang on to ❤️ Note the eyes 👀 when she got a hold of that steak!

  3. If you don’t want your puppy <insert unwanted behaviour here> you need to show puppy what the alternative is. Here, we are showing Chase how to not run after and grab small and noisy humans ( a perfectly normal puppy reaction!) Sitting and watching pays! When you can’t implement this set up, puppy is behind a barrier where unwanted behaviour can’t happen. Just like with our 2 legged children, they won’t know how to act in society unless we show them and help them along the way. It’s not complicated and teaching doesn’t need to include power struggles. Make it make sense for all parties and they will soon be able to make the right decisions on their own without as much support ( but give it a couple years) 😉✌🏼♥️
