  3. I was so nervous about doing this interview but I’m glad I did it because friends are reaching out to tell me it has been a wake up call. I know we’re all tired and there’s hope in sight with a vaccine, but please be careful. Link to my full story & others in my bio. Abridged version reposted from @torontolife: May 25 was the day I first felt symptoms. I had worked 14 hours the day before to finish off a big website launch, so I was expecting to be tired, but I woke up feverish, chilled and exhausted. My head hurt, my body hurt—basically all the symptoms of the flu, except my chest felt constricted and I had this strange sense of dread. My bedroom is five metres from the bathroom, and by the middle of the day, I couldn’t make the trip without getting winded and having to sit down. It was as if someone were sitting on my chest and I couldn’t get a full breath. The next morning, my partner and I went to get tested. On the second day, I was lying in bed, feverish, thinking about how I didn’t have a will or a power of attorney. I realized that I might die. A few days later, my results came back negative. 10 minutes after that, I got another call saying I’d tested positive. My symptoms were all over the place. My fever would improve but my breathing would get more laboured. Or the pain would subside but I’d be too exhausted to get out of bed. After three weeks, I was finally able to walk down the stairs. It took another two weeks before I could make it around the block. I returned to work in mid-June, and quickly noticed some concerning symptoms. I was unable to come up with ideas or think straight. I’m a pretty good proofreader, but one time, I reviewed an email and thought it was ready to send. Then I reread it 10 minutes later and caught so many glaring mistakes. I would read over something I just wrote and there would be an entire chunk of a sentence missing. It was really unsettling. It’s been six months since I technically “recovered” from Covid but I haven’t been able to shake the brain fog and the exhaustion. I’ve been working with my doctor but she hasn’t been able to find anything to explain it. 📷: @georgepimentel1

  3. Hello! I’m new to Kelowna and am appreciating the chance to meet so many new people, and stay in touch with friends from home. I find myself answering a lot of the same questions so thought I’d take a moment to share here, along with a few other random anecdotes for good measure. Any you can relate to? Respond below! ⚪️ I moved with my husband and two boys. Our parents and siblings are in Ontario and Australia but we have several other relatives throughout BC we’re excited to visit. Plus our guest beds are being put to good use! ⚪️ We sort of moved for work in a less traditional sense…John’s work is remote which gave us great flexibility and Kelowna was an appealing market for me to relocate to…I’ve connected with several lovely organizers, all of whom seem quite busy and even kindly offered referrals 🙏 ⚪️ Our boys started school here in May and we lucked out with how much is opening and they/I can participate in. It helps to make new friends and settle in. ⚪️ As a BCOMM grad, I’m feeling very nostalgic since joining the @kelownachamber and connecting with an engaged business community. ⚪️ Kelowna is bringing out the creativity in all of us…our oldest started a YouTube channel and our youngest is pursuing his own entrepreneurial efforts selling cold drinks outside. I’m having fun decorating our home as I finish my interior decorating certificate program. ⚪️ We love it here so far…amazing hikes, welcoming people, great wineries/restaurants and we also really really miss our neighbours and friends from home. ❤️ We appreciate all the intros you’ve made to other friends here and it makes Canada and the world feel smaller and more connected. ⚪️ I’m also getting out of my comfort zone to put myself out there. We recently had two magazines photographing us at our home.
