Cette fois-ci c’est avec cette NEIPA mono houblonnée au Riwaka! Ça mes amis c’est du Riwaka drette dans ta face. Belle texture. Bien balancé entre l’amertume et le sucre résiduel. Saveurs de pamplemousse et kumquat selon les internets. Pour vrai, le Riwaka est mis à l’avant plan de belle façon avec cette offrande! Mais il me reste que 2-3 cannes à la boutique… alors faites vite si vous n’y avez pas goûté encore!!! Well, the new year's rolling along 😏 Always so much excitement for the calendar flip and then ... routine ... again 🫤 But there's nothing routine about this beer, and, I'm really excited about getting fully into it! I love this style stout, and this one easily pleases! These good folks out east of Ottawa got all the flavours spot on here, with a rich chocolate body, plus a cacao nuttiness, hints of cinnamon, and just the perfect bit of Mexican pepper heat on the finish. The sweet and the heat blend so well, and the sip is really enjoyable, never straying too far from its stout character, just adding such a pleasant complexity of flavours to this south of (two) border(s) beer style!! And ya, a little bit of routine has set in, but there still is a whole new feeling of possibility that comes with any new start. And there's excitement in that, and in the potential of reaching new goals and having new experiences. Optimism is a great driving force! And there's no doubt that this last year, and maybe the year or two before that 🫤 have been tough ones. But there's no reason to not aim high in 2025! Maybe take some lessons from the last few to figure out how this year can be better. And then manifest success. Be better. And although you may have to work a little harder, but then maybe play a little harder too! 'Man, I really want a Big Mac' - words I haven't said in about twenty years ... until now! 😁 And ya, I've gotten away from fast food, but I've made up for it with ... hmmm, slow beer 😏 This is definitely one you want to take your time with and enjoy! A big, creamy IPA, with great notes of melon, tangy orange, and peach, and such a nice bitterness that complements the flavours so well. Big and juicy, great hoppy finish, and really well-crafted, this is a great choice in a quality hazy that you really do want to savour! And as I've said, I've gotten away from fast food, and really from a lot of things that lean toward convenience over substance. Ya, I've tried to slow things down. Slow things down and concentrate on a few really good things over the crazy variety of choice in my younger years. I eat better, I definitely drink better 😁 and my leisure time is spent much more enjoyably now too. Now part of that is really just my stage in life: the kids are older, work has slowed down, I've even started eliminating the things in my life that I find ... less pleasant. A benefit of age for sure!   3. Bun Bo Hue from the ever popular Pho Tien Thanh on Ossington. Been a lover of Pho for many years, but recently the Vietnamese noodle soup I want is Bun Bo Hue. Pretty similar style, the biggest difference is the use of pig blood and lemongrass in the broth. The congealed pigs blood turns most people off, yet really it develops the most yummy umami and thus a great tension with the spices that are way amped up in compared to regular 🍜 Pho Tien Thanh is awesome, as they have this available every day, unlike other spots where it only appears as a special. Be warned though, this is not a soup for the faint of heart. Also, as a warning with the weather changing you are going to see many more photos of soups.   2. Did I make wild plum sauce that is the most millennial pink ever, yes, yes I did. Did I also put a gold rim on it to emphasize its millennial pink-ness, suuuuure did. It is quite possibly the prettiest thing I have made in my kitchen this summer! Before you ask, the recipe is from @alanbergo, a place I end up often because the recipes are so in line with my weird kitchen tendencies. My sauce is a much different shade and has a little more pulp than the pretty photos for the recipe, but we both like the flavor so who cares!

  3. I started a part time job at @organic.planet.worker.coop this new January and here I am showcasing a single use plastic that is important. I sliced open my finger on some spoilage onions (preventing food waste) and needed a plaster and latex finger cot. That onion was salvaged into yummy spicy potato soup for the deli and I was able to go about preparing food for people safely. Moral of the story: not all plastics are bad. Sustainability is a balance of EVERY aspect of your life, it’s personal, and some things are unavoidable. Be sure to not hold others to your balance of sustainability, because ain’t nobody got time for that. 😘
