  2. It's hard being a wavy. You wish you had bigger clumps, that your clumps were more defined, and that your hair would have a uniform pattern. Sometimes one section of hair will go from 2a to 2b and spiral in different directions all in the same clump. You never know if your waves look wonky because you didn't squish enough or because you didn't use enough protein. Or if it's because you plopped too long (or not long enough), didn't use enough product (or the right combination of products), or something as "simple" as you got too impatient while diffusing. Each wash day is different and you constantly measure against your best hair day (or worse, someone else's). Maintaining these hair related accounts can feel like a lot of pressure, especially as a wavy. So DO NOT scrunch out the crunch until your hair no longer feels cool. How do you do that without "touching" your hair? I gently pat my hair or slip my fingers into my hair Mission Impossible style to avoid breaking up my clumps. How do you tell when your hair is 100% dry?   3. I woke up in a rough place. My finances are a mess, my SAD is making it hard to stay awake, and my energy levels are non existent. However, when I went to take a shower this morning I, for once, felt a quick comfort, and almost liked the softness of my body. Curves, gentle lines, no sharp edges... soft. I enjoyed my waist line and focused on the few things I liked in the moment instead of the thing I hate most (my tummy). Will I hate these photos tomorrow? Perhaps. But today I felt a quick appreciation for myself and wore a piece that gives me great feat, Jerry from my @bettiefatal line and quite liked it. Small victories! Now if I can will myself out of bed to finish cleaning my house...

  1. I.MADE.SHOES! All by myself! These were basically a week long saga of labour and determination that involved me barely leaving my condo (though that’s kind of the norm right now I guess). Ignore the text and look at the pictures if you aren’t interested in my shoemaking saga: After our very disappointing In person class at I can Make Shoes in London in June of 2019 and the subsequent shipment of my supplies involving everything being thrown into a box and envelope loose and the shipping being 2.5 times the price I was quoted in the class, (which just made me even angrier because I would have taken the stuff home on the plane with me if I had known) continued in comments for further info on the class. I became a bit terrified about failure in shoemaking and I was also still working though making wearable bras, so I kept putting off making my first solo pair of shoes. I finally felt ready the other week and dragged all of my supplies out. The leather, buckles and glue are all from Lonsdale leather that I’m lucky enough to have a few blocks from my home. These shoes aren’t perfect with the main issues being on the buckle side and back because I couldn’t get the counterstiffeners fully in the buckle side and up to the back edge of the shoe because of how little space I had, so that meant they are too loose at the heel and slightly floppy where the buckle is, with that area just being saved by the buckle and strap. The lining also has tucks on the inside Of the shoes in that area due to my attempts to make everything work. I also overglued inside to insert the insoles socks after slightly under gluing the outside to attach the soles. And lastly my sewing machine skipped stitched over the back seam and the stitches came out in that area so next time I’ll try a dart in the back and/or a side seam. But they are wearable, feel fairly comfortable on, and thankfully the straps are hitting me in the perfect spot! Now I’m dreaming up what my next pair will be that I think I’ll plan to make for the upcoming holiday season. #shoemaking #icanmakeshoes #lonsdaleleather #isew #imakemyownshoes

  3. A little over a week ago I made the decision to put in my two weeks notice at my current job after more than 14 years with the company and completely start over with a new job. This means starting from the bottom at age 42 but given everything I’ve been through at my old workplace: I’m up for the challenge and looking forward to it! After a tour of my new office I realized I could use a slightly more casual revamp of my work wardrobe and an excuse to still not sew the jeans I cut out a few weeks ago. Enter #mccallspatterns #M7991 view C in this charcoal rayon ponte from #fabricana and the skirt lined in some light green bamboo spandex I bought from a designer years ago. I made a size medium with the sleeves the length of the XL and the centre front overlap section the width of the XL for extra bust coverage. The fit of the medium and the XL sleeve length is perfect for full length sleeves on me, but I’ll reduce the width of the cuffs and take off a bit of that extra width in the centre front for my next version.
