  3. Who is making these “Support Canadian” lists!? Someone sent me a screenshot of an influencer sharing Amazon.ca links. GUYS. Amazon is a U.S.-based multinational corporation with no ties to Canadian ownership. Yes, there are Canadian businesses on there. Go to their websites DIRECTLY to truly support them. My TLDR: Support small companies not owned by billionaires. Support family owned. Support ethical supply chains. Shop consigned. Shop independently owned. Search up a brands ownership before you buy, and then search up who owns that. It takes some digging. Some more examples: Roots: In 2015, Roots sold a 51% stake to Searchlight Capital Partners, a U.S.-based private equity firm. Aritzia: Founder Brian Hill holds only 17.3% of the company. The rest is owned by major institutional investors, including FMR LLC, GIC Private Limited, and The Vanguard Group. MAC Cosmetics: Fully owned by Estée Lauder, a multinational conglomerate based in the U.S. Lululemon: About 85% of Lululemon is owned by institutional investors, including Vanguard, Fidelity, and BlackRock. Knix: Acquired in 2022 by Essity, a Swedish multinational company whose major shareholders include institutional investors such as AB Industrivärden, MFS Institutional Advisors, and Norges Bank Investment Management. And call out the influencers and publications making these lists!! Guaranteed they’ve got affiliate links in there. Buy directly when you can. Or don’t!! But, stop with the maple washing or whatever we’re calling it.

  2. Where do I even start with this? The last 24 hours have been so emotional and overwhelming for all the best reasons. First of all, thank you to @jesssternberg and @free.label for this incredible opportunity. I never would have imagined this in my wildest dreams. Vulnerability is wild, y’all. It’s truly something to show up in your truth and allow yourself to be seen unapologetically. I owe @brenebrown a lot for showing me the way. It feels scary and daunting to trust that the internet will show you love and celebration, particularly as a fat, biracial woman, and yet, there you all were to ease my troubled mind. Every comment, like, new follow, and share means so much to me. I cried off and on throughout the day as each notification came in. I have felt so much love and support from my people and the Free Label community, and I’m so thankful for all of you. I feel so held, nourished, and valued. To all the people who feel represented by my photo, I see you. You’re beautiful. You deserve to be seen, respected, and celebrated. The world needs more of us to show up in these spaces. Fashion is for everyBODY. If they won’t let us in, let’s break down the doors together. Let’s make room for all of us. We got this. Thank you to Canadian icons like @styleisstyle and @marielle.elizabeth for paving the way and inspiring me to give this a shot and to push fear aside. Y’all are legends in my eyes. @thomas.bullock . . . #everypersoncampaign #realliferealstories #freelabel #ethicalfashionrepresentationmatters #accessiblefashion #buylessbutbetter #effyourbeautystandards #bodyjustice #fatactivist #fatactivism #sustainability #ethicalfashion #plussizefashion #plussizemodel #hapa #hafu #representation #shoplocal #vancouver #vancity #potd

  1. • work/life (im)balance • . Here's a photo of what I wore on day 6 of the #May30x30 challenge hosted by @petraalexandra. No time for outfit photos today, because work/life is too hectic at the moment 🤷‍♀️ . . I wanted to talk about this unattainable work/life balance we are always told to figure out. Can we please just stop doing ourselves the disservice of believing that this balance exists? I'm tired of searching for a way that I can somehow "balance" being the best mother, best wife, best employee, best friend and daughter all at once. It's just not going to happen and I'm ok with it. I'm ok with prioritizing work over my family on some days and then prioritizing family over work on other days. I'm ok with being just ok or mediocre at something for a while. I'm not perfect. I get tired. I can be selfish sometimes. And from now on, when I hear somebody talking about work/life balance, I'm going to point out that it's really a pretty major imbalance and that I'm just going to embrace that instead of setting impossible expectations for myself. . . Ok, rant over 🤣 thanks for listening! . . In other news... isn't this @jamieandthejones haori coat rad??? This colour always makes me happy. . . Happy weekend, friends! 🌿 . . . . #jamieandthejones #mejuri #fluevog #shopsmall #ethicalootd #slowfashionstyle #slowstyle #slowfashion #ethicalfashion #echofashion #ethicallymyway #ethicalmyway  #tallfashion #tallstyle #simplestyle #ethicalclothing #ethicalstyle #outfitinspo #shopethical #fashrev #fewerbetter #30wears #10x10friends #simplestyle #basiccloset #basicstyle #conscientiouscloset #stylewithless #uncomplicatedcloset #WearReWear

  3. • gaining control over your shopping habits • . Hi friends! 👋 . . Today, I wanted to share with you what helps me gain control over my shopping habits & what triggers my desperate urges to *need* to shop. Also, I wanted to share with you my plan to quit buying stuff for myself for the rest of 2019. That's only 4.5 months... I can do it, right? Please tell me that I can 🤣 . . I'll start by saying that I don't think "no buy" challenges work for everyone. I've tried these challenges in the past and have failed... but I feel like my life is in a better place now - there is less uncertainty around my schedule & I have developed a decent routine for self care and hobbies (I think that's initially KEY - having other fun things to occupy yourself with, so you can overcome those initial urges to shop). . . So I'm going to do it! What started off as a #nobuyaugust with encouragement from @addielee_hatfield has blossomed into a #nobuy2019, with an extra push from @paularovingstyle 😉 . . Here's my strategy to curb my shopping cravings: . ▪ unsubscribe from EVERYTHING 🤣 . ▪ no online browsing and if I start to think about it - get off the phone and do something else! . ▪ mute people on IG who seem to trigger my shopping habits. . ▪ get a clear understanding of WHY I'm doing this: to save money? To stop feeling guilty about consuming? To further minimize my closet? . ▪ shop my own closet when I'm feeling the itch to shop. . ▪ occasionally remind myself that I simply don't NEED any more stuff. I really don't. . . My biggest trigger to shop more is a stress. If my daughter cries for most of the morning or my son is sick or I have a fight with my hubby... Those things TRIGGER me. I get emotional & vulnerable & feel the need to repair those raw emotions with a purchase. So, instead, I'm going to practice breathing through those tough moments & talking myself through them. . . That's my plan! What do you think? I'm likely going to need your help to hold me accountable, btw! 🤣 . . P.S. today is day 9 of the #colormycloset challenge: WILDCARD day... I'm celebrating it by wearing nothing wild or exciting 🤣 but my plan not to shop until the end of the year is pretty wild, right?
