  1. If you want defined bouncy curls, your hair needs to be properly conditioned and wet enough to clump well. Most are going to get the best clumps and definition when styling on hair that is soaking wet, maybe even dripping wet. Some will do better with it more on the damp side. So, play around with wetness levels to see what works best for you. Regardless, if you're not hearing the squishing sound when scrunching, it's likely not wet enough to style on & you will end up with stringy curls and excessive frizz. Once your hair is styled, however, you are going to want to remove that excess water as soon as possible and get it dry as fast as possible. Over time, given your hair too much, hydration/moisture (water) could damage the structure and cause dryness, frizziness, and stringy limp curls. 🔹️Side note: the size of your clumps will depend on your curl pattern. If you have a looser pattern, your clumps will likely be on the bigger size. If you have a tighter pattern, then they will likely be smaller.   2. Mousse-Gel 🆚️ Gel-Mousse ⏬️⏬️ Here's what I noticed between the 2 different applications on my fine wavy curly hair. Mousse-Gel 🌸Lightweight 🌸Bouncy 🌸Has volume and definition 🌸Diffuses within 15-20 minutes Gel-Mousse 🌸Weighed down 🌸Has little volume and less definition 🌸My hair was still very wet after micro-plopping 🌸Diffusing takes 30-45 minutes or more There is no right or wrong way to apply these 2 products. I generally find working from lightest to heaviest work better for most, which would mean mousse then gel. However, whatever way gives you your desired look is the way you should go with. For me, I like volume, bounce, definition, and a quick dry time, so mousse then gel seems to work better for me🥰 Which way gives your hair the desired look you want?   3. OMG 😲 those curls, if we can even call them that, where so bad🤦🏻‍♀️ Here's what I do differently now, vs. then 💜Using a shampoo to cleanse my scalp, as often as needed. This is generally with a clarifying/chelating shampoo 2-3 × a week. 💜Only deep conditioning when and if necessary. 💜Using a bond repair treatment and protein treatments weekly or when needed. 💜Reduced bleaching and not overlapping bleach. I stopped bleaching 10 months ago, colored my hair back to its natural color, and now use semi-permanent color to my roots only. 💜Let go of dead ends & length. 💜Always brushing through products just before scrunching. No fancy brush styling to over manipulate curls. 💜Switched to lightweight products, reduced the amount of conditioning products, and added proper hold. 💜Wet plop and microplop only 💜Styling on properly saturated/hydrated hair 💜Diffusing with no air drying ✨️TIME!! Even if I had started doing all this right from the start, time would still have been needed to allow my hair to heal and recover.   2. Olaplex 3 to the rescue. Seriously! I kind of forgot I had this stuff, and found it accidentally whilst burrowing through my product hoards. My hair has been feeling super duper dry lately, I decided to give the olaplex 3 a try to see if it would revive my curls. Olaplex 3 is a bond rebuilder (not a conditioning OR protein treatment) it can be really beneficial to help damaged hair and bring it back to life. When I started modified curly girl I used it about once a month but kind of slacked off in the summer and haven’t done a treatment for a good few months 😱 I applied it to freshly rinse/damp hair. I sectioned my hair into quarters used about a toonie sized dollop 🇨🇦 for each section. You don’t need to use this much, but my hair just felt like it needed it. I put on a shower cap and let it sit for a good hour, shampooed out with Shea Moisture Coconut & hibiscus shampoo, and then deep conditioned with zotos all about curls moisture mask. My hair feels and looks like it’s old pre-winter self. Thank you @olaplex for this tiny Christmas Eve hair miracle! Merry Christmas, every one ❤️

  3. I know people think I’m crazy for taking the time to do finger coils on my curls, BUT the thing about styling that way is that your hair will last significantly longer without refreshing (yes! No refreshes!) . Here is day 3 hair. No refresh and not even a pineapple at night. I usually wash on day 4 because that’s just what I like to do, but I have gone longer than that before. #fingercurls #fingercoil
