A Hoppy Easter indeed 🪺 We are excited to announce a new addition to our family - coming September 2023 ♥️ Almost at the half way point, I haven’t shared much about my pregnancy - although I am happpy to feeling back to myself, and we are all very excited to see our family grow! Navigating our own journey after losses, as well as working so closely with many fertility patients, has made me a little hesitant to announce. I know there are many more like me sitting in this massive void between babies and big kids. Riding the edge of closing one chapter and opening a new unfamiliar one. Please know you are not alone. Maybe you and your partner are not agreeing on the size of your family. Maybe you barely got through postpartum with your last baby and you don’t know if he would survive it again. Maybe you are struggling with trying to conceive, PCOS, infertility or IVF and the idea of trying for one more is just too much. Maybe you are worried about the current status of the world and the rising cost of living & would love to add to your family, but you can barely make ends meet with the one you already have. Maybe your relationship with your partner cannot take the added responsibility and stress of one more. Maybe you suffered a complication and your last delivery & you have lost opportunities to have more. Maybe you are too scared to get pregnant again and suffer yet another loss. Maybe your last birth left you with so much trauma you cannot fathom doing it again. However, you have come to be in this foreign land whether it was a simple decision or not. Our bodies are so powerful. 💪🏻 . . . @a_midwife_in_montana ・・・ If you are asked “do you want me to go ahead and break your water” the answer should always be no. You can’t undo the breaking of membranes. You can go back. Time doesn’t restore it, it is a major intervention and sometimes it can be dangerous. Your baby needs all the help they can get to make micro movements inside. It’s like if it’s asked you to do a somersault in the middle of the room….you couldn’t, but you could if we went out chest deep in water. Your baby needs the fluids to make movement and to be cushioned. Let your body, and your body alone, decide when to open the waters. QUICK & EASY GUT-FRIENDLY LENTIL BREAD 👇🏻👇🏻 This is a vegan, gluten free, grain free and high protein & fibre recipe 🫶🏻 For this lentil bread, I highly recommend soaking the lentils from 8 to 24 hours and adding 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to make it easier to digest. 🍞 Ingredients: * 1 cup dry green or red lentils, rinsed * 20g psyllium husk * 1 1/2 extra virgin olive oil * 1 tbsp baking soda * 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar * 60ml water 🍞 Method: * soak the lentils, then drain it * preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C * add lentils together in a food processor with all the ingredients (I didn’t have one, but I recommend to have this recipe blended nicely) * add the apple cider vinegar and baking soda last * shape the lentil bread rolls by hand * bake for 25 minutes until golden brown. It was really about tapping into something deeper – something that felt truly aligned with me. As she was also explaining how certain colors could enhance my natural features, it got me thinking about how the colours we wear can impact not just our appearance, but also our mood and energy levels. At the end, I felt like by simplifying my wardrobe and learning how to choose colours that truly resonate with me, it’s like I’ve unlocked this whole new level of self-awareness and self-care. Getting dressed isn’t just about putting on clothes – it can be a mindful practice, a way to do things with intention, and a way to see health with holistic lens.   1. B A B Y 💕 d e N o o i j ::: Coming January 2026. • After an almost 10 year fertility journey — this is an announcement that I have been excited to share. However, with everything that has happened in the last couple of months—it also comes with a lot of sadness -to be on this journey without Eric by my side. For anyone who knew Eric - you know just how much he wanted to be a father— and just how great he would have been at it. Through years of fertility treatments, medications, ultrasounds, injections, pregnancy tests, miscarriages, a rollercoaster of emotions and so much heartbreak— we always faced it together. One week before Eric passed away we went to our first ultrasound together and we heard the heartbeat 💓. It felt too good to be true— and we were apprehensive because of all the losses we had over the years. As we walked into the radiology clinic feeling extremely nervous— he looked at me and said: “No matter what happens today - we always have eachother”. It was something I never questioned. The day that Eric was rushed to the hospital I was 8 weeks pregnant— and all I could think about was how in the world could this little baby ever survive this horrible traumatic event. The last 2.5 months have been filled with all the emotions that you could ever imagine. So much sadness, heartache, tears —but so much gratitude as well. This year has definitely not gone the way I thought it would. My life has been turned upside down in ways that my heart, mind and soul could never have imagined.   2. My Handsome Eric ♥️// I am heartbroken + utterly devastated to announce the passing of my wonderful husband Eric this past Monday from a stroke. To say that I am in shock is an understatement. He was my heart, my partner, my life, my home, my everything— I just can’t imagine a world without him in it. Thank you to all my family and friends who have been helping me through this nightmare. If you know Eric, you know just how many people this has affected. Our family, friends, community and his entire EMS family have been left with a giant Eric-sized hole in their hearts.   3. 32 Weeks! 💓 I am not sure where the time has gone— but I figured I should document this as I am sure I will want to look back and remember this little growing boy at this stage of pregnancy. I think the universe has given me a pass on all of the physical symptoms because I couldn’t feel better and I couldn’t have been luckier to have the very best pregnancy I could ask for. Emotionally the last 5 months have been the hardest that I have ever had to face. To be on this journey without Eric has been so hard. We had dreams of experiencing this together. I wish he could experience the baby kicks, listening to the heartbeat at appointments with the Doppler, watch my belly grow. I wish he could be with me through the Birth Education Classes, learn all of the comfort measures and get to know all of the other couples expecting little ones around the same time as this little babe. I wish he was here to go through hand-me-downs, put his name sign up on the wall and build all the baby furniture with me. I wish he was there meeting the midwives, the doulas and my OB, mapping out the route to the hospital, packing the hospital bag and making all the plans. Not only is it hard because I know he would just LOVE all of it— but because there have been so many times through this when I have needed my best friend. I feel so my gratitude every day that I get an opportunity to be pregnant. I am excited (not fearful) of birth — because there were many times over the last 10 years that I never thought I would have a chance to experience it. I am so excited to meet this little boy in 8 weeks from now, but I am also trying to savour this moment in time. To feel all the emotions, to be present and to experience it enough for both Eric and I💕

ONE YEAR 🥳 To the dream I always had but never thought I could achieve… A year ago today I took what was my small business at the time and rebranded it into what is now known as my Chiro Kid and Chiro Mom workshops. It is absolutely crazy to think of how much my programs have grown since this time last year. I started with 15 registered participants last year on this day and today we wrap up week 1 of series 1 in year 2 with more than 80 registered participants in the program. Thank you to all of you for sending your family, friends, coworkers and acquaintances my way. My programs would have never grown so fast without your love and support. Nothing makes me happier than seeing strangers become best friends - watching your babies attend each others first birthday parties, going on playdates outside of class, having a girls night with the other Moms from class - it just warms my heart so see was has evolved from my workshops. Today I celebrate all of the Mama and baby friendships that have been made in Chiro Kid and Chiro Mom. Thank you to Kristina from @barelytouchedphotography for forcing me into this photoshoot and somehow pulling off this very last minute. Can’t wait to see what is to come in 2024!💕

  2. Last week was one for the books! Being part of this year’s Hamilton 40 Under 40 was such an honour.   1. CHICKEN BROTH 🥣 bone broth is known as liquid gold to many as it has so many healing properties. It is rich in vitamin C and collagen from the bones and connective tissue and it has glutamine which helps to repair tight junctions in the lining of your digestive system. many use it to soothe digestive upset, bloating, intestinal hyperpermeability, skin issues and so much more. it’s no surprise that this has been used in so many cultures for thousands of years. ✨ how I make mine: • the remaining part of a chicken, or 1 bag of bones from @blossompureorg - or an organic butcher near you • 2-3 carrots, roughly chopped • 1 large onion, quartered • 1 head of garlic, chopped in half • 1-2 tbsp salt (depending on desired saltiness) • 1 tbsp red chilli flakes • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar • 1 sprig Rosemary or any desired spices add all ingredients to a slow cooker and top with water. cook on low for 8 hours * alternatively, if you have an Instant Pot you can cook on high for 2 hours and naturally release. strain and jar in glass jars. freezes really well! use it for your favourite soups or just enjoy on its own🙌🏼

  2. chopped veggie and bean “salsa” to dip your favourite tortilla chip or cracker into.. all summer long👌🏼 Dice up whatever veggies you have on hand … peppers, cucumbers, red and green onion and add a can each of chickpeas and lentils. Top with toasted pumpkin seeds and the green goddess dressing: • 1 cup spinach • 1/2 cup basil • 1 garlic clove • 1 small shallot • 3 tbsp olive oil • 1/2 cup cashews • juice of 1 lime • salt to taste (start with 1/4 - 1/2 tsp and add more as needed) • water to reach desired consistency (start with 1/4 cup) the KEY is to keep tasting the dressing as you’re making it and add whatever you feel it needs! not salty enough? add more salt! kind of bland? brighten it up with some more lime!

  2. 🦊 It’s been over a week since we welcomed Bébé Hugo Lagassé into the world. He came on his own timeline in our 41st week weighing 7lbs 12oz. It was worth the wait - his entrance progressed fast & I had a beautiful natural birth that I can only describe as the most out of body, surreal experience I’ve ever lived.✨ It’s been a whirlwind so we are still recovering & finding our groove, but we have been so grateful for the support of our family, friends & rockstar team of service providers along the way including our amazing doula @yourbirthbestie.katrina & lactation consultant extraordinaire @advancedlactationcarewinnipeg. What do these 3 things have in common? ⁉️ 🏋️‍♀️LIFTING (any type of weight from the floor)… ⚡️LOWER BACK PAIN (that keeps coming back)… 🤰Recently HAVING A BABY (one or more!)… It’s all about BRACING, and the importance of the awareness your core strength. This is something that I talk to my clients about every day in my office. Here is why: 1️⃣ When we lift objects from a level below our waist - whether it be a barbell, a bag of groceries, a child, or a backpack…we need our core muscles to support our spine and pelvis. When I say “core”, please don’t think about your abs, or that 6-pack (even if it’s hiding in there somewhere 😜). Our core wraps our body and supports our midsection- from our diaphragm to our pelvis - front, back, sides, top, and bottom. Pressurizing our core protects our internal organs and our spine. Core bracing is essential for light and heavy lifting, and without it, you may be setting yourself up for injury ⚡️ 2️⃣ If you suffer with chronic lower back pain, it is often highly correlated to a lack of core stability. Your spinal and pelvic joints require proper movement and innervation from your nervous system, but they also require stability. Movements and exercises that allow us to focus on bracing our core are a vital component of spinal health. 3️⃣ When women grow in pregnancy, the stretching of the midsection can lead to weakness in the ability to brace the core. This is why so many new moms have trouble with their core strength and can suffer from lower back or pelvic pain.   1. Your supporters will cheer louder for you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This past Sunday, I ran a 1:44:51 half marathon and hit a personal best which I am so proud of. This running journey was more than just a race time, it was healing in a lot of ways. There were so many moments during this training block where I wanted to quit. 
Cold winter weather.
Long runs alone. Early mornings in the gym when no one was telling me I had to workout. And the only thing holding me accountable was the training schedule I wrote for myself. But even though parts of the journey felt lonely, I didn’t reach this personal best alone. There were friends who met me for runs even on bad snowy days @stephgrace77 ! Early morning run clubs at Barry’s holding me accountable (shoutout to @lannymo for always reminding me to book in for class!) Lagree classes that kept me stronger for my runs. And the friends, family, and clients who continuously checked in with me and asked me how my training was going or who sent me all well wishes before race day. That support meant more than you know 🫶🏼 I’m not the fastest runner, but I’m really proud of how far I’ve come this year. Last March, my average pace on runs was 5:53–6:15 min/km. Now it’s closer to 5:00-5:30 min/km. But what meant more to me than my pace, was how strong my body felt during this training block. And the truth is: I actually ran less. For the last 4 months my training consisted of: • 2 runs per week
• 3 strength training sessions
• 1 Lagree session some weeks About 5 training days per week total. Prioritizing my strength training made the biggest difference for me this time around. My hips felt stronger. The hills felt easier. Long runs took less of a toll on my body. And my recovery felt better even as the speed runs got harder and the long runs got longer. On the days motivation wasn’t there, I kept reminding myself of one thing: You can do hard things. If you surround yourself with the right people, you start to thrive in ways you never expected. Spend your days with people who uplift you. And to anyone who wants to start running, I say, go do it, because truly anyone, can be a runner 💕 #halfmarathontraining #torontorunners

As a settler on this land, Deshkan Ziibing (Thames River) reminds us that my sacred home rests upon the traditional homelands of the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishinaabeg, Haundenosaunee, and Leni Lenaapewak people. This territory falls under the London Township Treaty and Sombra Treaty 1796, and the Dish with One Spoon Wampum. I am a proud Canadian AND I am deeply disturbed by the genocide of indigenous children & people that continue to be recovered. This Canada Day was about reflection instead of celebration because our community is grieving. We have a lot of work to do moving forward. As a social worker, I am not naive to the fact that social workers were a significant part of the 60’s scoop, taking children from homes and placing them with white people. As I continue to unlearn, learn, educate myself and others, I am mindful of the history the profession I have chosen holds. In the TRC, out of the 94 calls to action, there are direct calls to action for social workers. Working in two different sectors (higher education & community healthcare) I am committed to do better. I am committed to challenge myself and peers to take action and decolonize/ indigenize educational spaces and learning opportunities as well as close the gap for indigenous folks accessing healthcare, specifically maternal mental health and infant mortality.
