  1. Super casually decided to try sewing with leather at home 😅 my machine did okay with lambskin but as soon as it hit more than 4 layers (plus I added a linen lining) it decided to quit. So the zipper ends look less than ideal but you know what we learned and we played and now we have a cute leather bag! So I’m counting it as a win. I used a size 14 needle and occasionally a Teflon foot if the leather right side was face up. I added a linen lining with a small pocket to the pattern, simply sewing the lining and leather wrong sides together as a single “fabric” - meaning you can see the seam allowances inside. I could have sewn the lining so that you don’t see any seam allowance, but that was more effort than I had in me! I added a lining both so I could have a pocket and so that the leather didn’t rub off on the contents of my purse.   2. Every day, month, year that passes, I swear I grow to love the #arthurpants more. Every type of outfit or general vibe could use an Arthur. I will wear Arthur at home sitting at my desk all day, then wear em out into the world for dinner, for a hot girl walk, for people to admire. The @sewliberated instructions on these are fantastic and is probably the number 1 pattern I would recommend if you’re a beginner sewist looking to level up in small but mighty ways. It’s an elastic waist pant with fabulous gigantic legs so the fit is super forgiving, but the techniques!!! There’s so much to learn here: flat felled seams, French seams, getting that waistband on there oh so neat, understanding the impact of working with grainlines, picking a size to get the effect you want - implicit or explicit in the pattern, this is good stuff for skill building!!! It’s cool to commit to learning about making your sewing better!!!! This is my 4th version of this pattern. I made in a size 6 in heavyweight from @wearethefabricstore (gifted through their ambassador program). I can’t remember how much I shortened the legs bc I cut this pattern out literally years ago - my guess is 2” bc that’s what I usually do. I’ve made the size 8 before in linen and I found they grew with wear so I opted for a size smaller. In any case, sizes 6&8 are both several sizes down from where the size chart puts me. There is commentary in the pattern on what to consider for picking what size to make. I left off the back pockets and topstitching on the waistband. Congrats to @paradisepatterns on the #cowriekini drop ☀️🌊 I wasn’t exactly on the market to sew a swimsuit in February in Canada lol but I will literally drop everything to test for my forever fave designer 💓 Please enjoy these ~very realistic~ oceanside pics of me in my tester version! The other option for the photoshoot was to go out in a snowstorm but that’s not really my aesthetic 🤪 Easily the best sewing experience I’ve ever had with swim thanks to Sanna’s clear and precise instructions. The fold over elastic is such a clever addition to the design, adding a cool sportiness and colour blocked vibe, but also simplifying the construction. FYI for my Canadian sewists, I was able to get the right size FOE from my local @fabricland.canada and they had a ton of colours to choose from! I made a straight size F for both top and bottom. Next time for the top I will grade down one size at the front bust as there’s a bit of excess fabric there for me. This wild n beautiful floral swim fabric is a Liberty print from @wearethefabricstore - I had enough to use for both the main and lining. Tink Back Thursday 🧶 (yes that alliteration would have worked better on a Tuesday, but I’m posting on a Thursday 😅) I love learning new techniques, but it’s pretty rare that I learn a new technique all on my own. However, the other day I needed to go down a few rows in my knitting and I had the bright idea of tinking back two rows at a time. Shockingly to me, IT WORKED! I was stoked! I did two rows of work in one! So I recorded what I did to share with all of you 😊 Here’s the technique: 1. Using your left hand needle, pick up the right legs of the stitches in the row you want to tink back to. 2. When you have a few in your left hand needle, slide them off the right hand needle. 3. Pull out the yarn from each row you’re tinking back (I tinked back two rows in my video) 4. Repeat until you get back to the beginning of round — at this point, all of the row yarns will be one strand that you can wind back up to use again!   3. From an old (grease?) stained sheet to a naturally dyed and completely finished #looperquilt! This is my second quilt, my first being a home-ec project in grade seven.   1. Hi 💚 I’m sewing a dress for the first time in a while, not many posts for this pattern so thought I’d share mine. This is McCalls 8195, in emerald washed linen from @blackbirdfabrics lined with bemberg lining. I made size 10 and plan to shorten the straps by about 1” and take a slightly wider seam allowance at the centre back zipper. Topstitched the straps to flatten them out and topstitched the empire seam for balance. 😇 this colour is 🤩and the linen is a delight to work with.   2. DAY 4: new day, new dress! 🙌🏼MADE: Lois dress by @tessutifabrics in printed rayon from @fabriclandwest ❤️THOUGHTS: A+ pattern! This dress is simple but flattering and only needs 2m of fabric for my size, in a light fabric it feels like wearing nothing at all, the V-neck is fantastic 😍and since you might wonder, yes I am wearing a bra, just a low cut one. I sized down for this, to a size 8, even though my measurements put me at a 10 if I remember correctly.   3. I dislike posting photos of myself so much, it’s one of the things that kept me from instagramming. But it sure does show off the dress much better than if it were on a hanger 💚the colour is spectacular and the bust detailing is so pretty! 🤩 Details: Washed linen in Emerald from @blackbirdfabrics lined with rayon bemberg lining. Pattern is McCall’s 8195, sleeveless view, size 10. Changes: took up the straps by 1” and took in the centre back seam by about an extra 1/2” per side. Nothing fancy, just took an extra wide seam allowance when putting in the zipper. I’d make this again, the fit is good and it was fun to make. It has inseam pockets that you can’t see and the skirt ends just above knee. I could wear a bra with this dress but also I don’t have to, win win 🏆 The biggest hurdle was cutting out the lining, because it’s slippery, after that the rest came together easily!   2. Little/Big update. After a few challenging years of trying to keep this little woodworking business going, I came to the decision earlier this year that it was no longer feasible. What started as a hobby, grew into a business that I’m really proud of. Unfortunately the costs associated with woodworking from studio rental to materials and even the availability of materials have just become too hard to keep up with. As hard as this decision was, for the moment it feels like the right one! Who knows what the future holds, I hope someday I’ll have the opportunity to have another studio space where I can make beautiful pieces.

  2. I was so in love with the @riflepaperco Holiday Classics collection that I wanted to use up every last scrap while making @suzyquilts #holidaypartyquilt! . I resized the block to 50% and was able to make 6 mini blocks out of my scraps! The plan is to turn 5 of them into a table runner and I made the 6th into a potholder. I also tried my hand at free motion quilting for the first time 😬. . I made a mistake when doing the math on resizing but made the blocks work nonetheless. Who else thinks that doing quilt math is harder than any SAT question?? 🙋🏻‍♀️ .   3. Of course I had to break out my #tamarackjacket for #memademay2022! I bought this pattern as an aspirational project back in Jan 2020 and I finally worked up the courage to tackle it over the past few months. I feel like this jacket was momentous because I finally got the hang of slip-stitching binding when working on the inside pockets plus! My first welt pockets!! In retrospect, I wish I took the time to slip-stitch all of the binding for a neater finish. Notes: - made a size 6 but increased the width at the hip by an inch (redrew the underarm to hip curve) for a boxier fit - the jacket fits me well at the shoulders and arms, however I can’t really comfortably fit more than a lightweight shirt underneath - quilt pattern is #adobequilt by @wellspringdesigns_co - the throw sized quilt was enough to make both the outer and lining pieces. I may have used some extra scraps from the quilt to finish the lining. - snaps are Dritz heavy duty snaps . . . #memademay #memade #memadewardrobe #quiltcoat #quilted #quiltedjacket #slowsewing #handmade #sewing #quilting #slowfashion
