I am but merely sharing bits and pieces of my life as an ordinary runner with extraordinary opportunities. I may not be an elite athlete, but I believe that my successes are worth celebrating, and my experiences, worth sharing. I was born a confident, stubborn b*tch (just ask my mom), so if you’re looking for the imposter syndrome, you won’t find it here. To paraphrase the great Mindy Kaling, it’s not that I think I’m so awesome, it’s just that I don’t hate myself. 😘

  3. I might be the only one with a bib number and a buckle here, but this race finish was definitely a team effort. I struggled early on with the altitude, and had trouble finding my climbing legs. The foot injury that took me out of the Eiger 100k last year also flared up about 50k in, but this time I was determined not to stop (read: I would not let a medic look at it). 😉 I was excited to pick up my 1st pacer @alpineheather15 at mile 49 after a long and fairly lonely day, but the night was pretty rough. Fighting sleepiness, managing injury and struggling to keep food down (even had a little puke, but not much of a rally). By the time the sun came up, I felt like a shell of a human, surviving on Tylenol and caffeine pills, begging to finally descend (and stay) below 2,800m. After a much needed reset at mile 68, I started feeling better, and could count on @coralcandleford to remind (ahem, force) me to eat every 20 minutes or so, and together we made our way through the final 32 miles, albeit a little slower than I would have liked. While I was in it, I felt like everything was going wrong, and I failed to see that I was actually doing just fine. In hindsight, I am happy with the outcome, and I am proud of how I handled the curveballs thrown at me over the course of those 34 hours. Big thank you to @highlonesome100 for putting on an absolutely world-class event on very challenging terrain. I have nothing but good things to say about each of the many volunteers I’ve come across, and I highly recommend this event to any runner looking to challenge themselves. Thank you also to our partners in this adventure; @lawswhiskey @arcteryxbc @fenixlight and @corosglobal. Your support means the world! This summer my stepmom gave me her old machine, and after a summer obsession with sewing tank tops, I’m back at it! I sewed this together this weekend and am feeling pretty proud of it.   3. Berlin jacket achievement unlocked! And I’m so pleased with the result. This jacket is a Halifax sewist’s staple, but what truly inspired me to try it was this dusty rose boiled wool from @patchhalifax. Who doesn’t want to be cozy in pink? . If you’re a new sewist like me know that the pattern only requires the most basic of skills. If you can sew straight and curved lines you’re good to go. BUT A WARNING: if you have trouble with visualizing things in 3D in your mind you may encounter hiccups. (Spatial visualization?) Because boiled wool doesn’t require hemming this pattern is dead easy, but it made it really challenging for me to figure out how everything went together. The first thing you do after cutting is sew the pockets on. So satisfying right? Well I sewed them on the inside. Honestly. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And I attached the front of the jacket on backwards (no photographic evidence because I was mortified). It was so frustrating and I had to put it all down for a few weeks and go back to quilting 2 dimensional blocks. Now that I’m finished I know where I went wrong.   3. To say I am proud would be an understatement. I just had to step back and let her go. She was leading me and she enjoyed every moment. Coaches and parents out there - the result doesn't matter - at least it isnt where the lessons lie. The way they show up, the way they accept their nerves and learn to manage them. And above all to coach them to enjoy competing! I remember feeling disappointed when I didn't finish where I wanted, or if I skied out. But what always stuck with me and kept me coming back was the joy in executing the race run and being in the gate. Guide your racers towards seeing that competing is an energy that can be exciting and fun. And then watch them soar. I have no idea how far my kids will go in racing, but I know that whatever they learn here will serve them well with wherever they go later on 💪 #competition #skiracing #alpinecanada #u12coach #sunandsnow
